Things NOT to do on launch dayFollow

This comes from an observations of a long time beta tester of the mistakes he made and those he saw new beta testers make during their first few days of beta. If you want to enjoy the game and be taen seriously, these are a few things you should not do come launch day/week:

1. DO NOT ooc asking for directions to locations or mobs. At times, there were so many people doing this, anyone seriously trying to test/play the game simpy turned off ooc, leaving the lazy to fend for themselves. Asking someone via a private tell, asking npc guards for directions to npcs, and//or simply follow the signs.Do yourselves a favor and print out as many decent maps and quest lists you can find AHEAD of time.

2. DO NOT name yourself "r0xx0rJuB0xx0rz" or anything that would make yourself look like a moron. They miht think it's funny in WoW, but would probably get no laughs and just get you ignored in EQ2.

3 DO NOT use bad language or flame people via shouts or tells. A GM WILL snap you back and suspend rather quickly, and you'll be out the $50 you spent on the game. There's going to be 50000+ people playing launch week and EQ2 GMS will not shed a tear if you make them suspend you, and given good excuse they WILL boot ya if need be.

4. DO NOT ABOVE ALL ELSE BEG. Money is NOT DROPPED OFF MOBS FOR THE MOST PART, it's earned the old fashioned way, through work. All begging will do is land you on 200+ ignore lists simultaneously.

5. DO NOT make the mistake of thinking you will be able to solo through the game and be able to have the saame loot and skill as those who solo/group 50/50 or group most of the time. While there are more slo quests and content in this game than ANY MMO i have seen to date, you get what you risk in the end. If your in a group and you fight your way deep in a dungeon and kill tougher group mobs and named mobs, your goig to get better xp and loot. If you do a little of both, you'll have the best of both worlds. If you plan on soloing 95%+ of the time, your going to be disappointed, irritated, and envious before launch week is up.

and last but not least:

6. DO NOT IGNORE QUESTS! This is what makes this game so great. The quests are FUN,in depth, lucrative xp,money, and loot wise. The quests are what make this game so much fun. There's no feeling better than helping your friends with their quests and them helpiing you with yours.

This is easily going to be the BEST mmorpg out there(WoW is good, but it's for a much younger crowd imo), enjoy yourselves, have fun, and don't rush through the game, unlike most other mmo's this one isn't a race.I think your all gooing to love it. Hope to see you all there!

I've seen the way beggars were treated every day for nearly two months, and let me tell ya, a peson with the plague would be treated better. Apparentlym most people have had enough of it in prior games. People aren't going to spend $15 a month and cheapen teir hard work to make things easy for the few that simply want to freeload. The game isn't st up to reward those who feed off the bottom, and as i said, most people just add the beggars to their ignore lists thus also doing away with alot of spam. It works:)

Also, if you want to make more money, level on blues instead of whites/yellow. You'll make less xp per kill, but get more drops per level.

Some good suggestions.. :) I agree with doing the quests...The game is called Everquest...and this is much more relevent in this game, than the original Everquest...Most of your armor, jewelry, weapons and such, are going to be found by doing the quests...Those who set out to just level as quickly as possible without doing the quests are going to find it hard to acquire the equipment they need to even start the game rolling... I found that this starts on the Isle of Refuge and continues..So don't be in a big rush...Do those quests and enjoy this exciting new adventure...Plus, you get nice experience and reward for them...

One of my favorites is to see someone zone into Antonica from the Mariners Bell and before they even leave the dock is to shout out "Where is the Lighthouse". Take a couple of minutes and look around. EQ2 is fun and is actually can get a little spooky just running around and trying to find the stuff yourself. So take you time, put a little effort and look for the stuff yourself before asking where they are at.

That .. was the greatest post ever. Everyone who plays the game should be forced to read that. That very list made beta horrible sometimes.

I really like helping people, and if someone sends me a tell asking for directions, i am usually more thaan happy to take the time to make sure they find what they are looking for, but it's the idiots and morons that do all or some of the things in the above list that ruined the WoW beta for me. In EQ2 the community pretty much put an end to it by adding the names of beggars/l33t d3wdz/oocers to the ignore lists and keeping ooc turned off.

Best thing someone can do f they have class questions or need directions, is to do a "/who all <insert class here>", and asking someone of your own class or subclass via a personal tell. Most people will always be glad to help to some extent. Don't however ask for stuff or say rude things to people via tell, as that will get one booted from the game very fast. The EQ2 beta community was the nicest, most intelligent i have yet had the pleasure of testing with so far, in very long list of beta test programs i have taken part in.

I would also recommend that people find themselves an intelligent group of people or a guild tto play with on a regular basis, as it helps to get to know those you will regularly play with. Anoter great thing is that KSing is impossible and PVP griefing is also impossible as tere is no pvp and no plans to include it.

Well Mr.Longtimebetatester, some people dont mind helping out newbies with directions or items they have no use for. Your observations are your own opinion. Why do you find it so annoying to help someone out with something as simple as directions? You never asked anyone for directions or mob locations?? When someone ooc's for anything like that i try to help them or direct them to a web site that will. Being kind wont kill you ignorant jerk.

Have a nice day. =)

I do believe his intent was to encourage folks to explore a little before shouting a question to the masses. Everyone will be learning all they can about the lands and such during those first few days/weeks.

As for requests for items etc., I had always had one simple stipulation during the 5 years I had played and it was so simple. I may not have had any coin or item to pass along, but being polite and saying please and thank you went a long way. Why that seems so difficult to some is beyond me. Oh well, may each and every one of you have a most enjoyable experience in the new lands. :)

Yeah, right. You can openly tell people to go fuck themselves in OOC in Antonica and you'd have a minimal chance of even getting a warning.

Just one small thing about the money part. A Dev stated that money will drop of mobs. But It will not be a great deal of money.
Money will be hard for most people. SOE wanted money to mean something in EQ2.
I agree with everything else. Every 5 min, someone would ask a question that was clearly answered in the quest jornal. There are some quest that are ment to be vague, but a good many give good directions if one is capable of following directions.
In beta, I helped anyone and everyone I could with the exception of those who refused to read the text or quest jornal.

Yeah it gets pretty annoying hearing/seeing "Where is Tower of Vhalen" every five minutes, but I understand that those people were new to beta and I had the same questions when I first started. However, what is REALLY annyoing is seeing the people shouting for directions while they are just sitting at the NQ bridge. Get out and try to find it, it will make the game more enjoyable.

XD lol yeah, like in final fantasy when ballista started, in any main city there were always shouts of "where is the ballista guy?" "what is ballista?" etc.. i mean its just anoying that they would shout to 100 ish people when they could read it online, or wow the actual info on the playonline program o.O ... and just today i had someone beg me to give them money.. i finally got them off me when i blacklisted them (ignored, squelched, etc) so yeah, follow the list! DO NOT BEG!

edit: oops i said the last sentence kinda funny sorry if i mislead some people

Ok, this is meant as politely as possible, but you did play EQL right? I couldn't count the number of times someone would walk up to me in the newbie zones and ask, "Hey cool sword, can I have it. No? What's No Drop? Oh...well what do you have on you that you'll give me? Oh come on..give me something I'm new."

Or some other variation of that conversation, without fail running through G Fay or Butcher or Freeport. There are people who probably do need help, and there are going to be people who abuse the good nature of others and irritate the whole gaming community. I think this post was just good ettiquette on how not to be the irritant in the EQ2 gaming community.

I Never help beggars, however, whenever I have extra gear (from crafting or whatever) I always give it away to newbies that I see leveling up the old-fashioned way without asking for any help.

Many have done the same for me when I started and I like to pass on the favor.

I hope alot of the people that are new to the online game thing read things like this. As for me, i started with UO. I was walking through the starting town, didnt know what to do. Looking for a weapon shop and armor shop so i could gear up. This is what all rpg veteran's do he he, find a store buy goods look for a lead in the storyline....and whomp monsters for loot.

Then i see something strange pop up in my chat"pardon me, would you happen to be new to the game?" so i replied"Aye, first time i've played one of this internet games" We spoke on and on. Not even one single time did i ask for anything, i knew you paved your own way. Then i see someone run up behind me, the character had the name of the person i was speaking with. She gave me things to help my character get on his feet to start progessing into the game a tad easier. I refused multiple times on taking the items, which inturn made her try that much harder in giving them to me o_O

You see...you need to have a basic respect for people, begging and pestering people for items that they themselves put the time needed in to earn, they should just hand it over to a begger because thier new? Even when the person that has the items started out the same way? They earned it, alone and on their own. As such every new person should. Out of kindness people will hand things out, but and this is a very BIG but-only to a person that they know actually needs and will use that item or items.

Nothings worse than when you give someone an item and they bag it or sell it, they told you all throughout the conversation that they really needed it to use yada yada yada. But yet you see them later in the bazaar selling it...even when they themself promised you that when they outgrew the item, then they would give it to someone that needed it just as you did.

Basic respect...what is it? well lets take a look.
Groban tells you: Can i have some plat to buy a better weapon?
Puri tells groban: Sorry man, i'm saving to buy a new sword my self.
Groban tells you: Come on man its only 500pp give me some plat
Puri tells groban: Sorry, i cant. The sword i need is 8k and its very hard to make that amount of plat right now...worse as a warrior.
Groban tells you: OMG Thats so stupid, your 65 and wont give me 400pp. I hate you high levels your all ******** stupid ***.

Yes that was an actual conversation between me and a new person on the sol ro server. Whats worse is that alot of those have happened. Wheres the regular basic respect nowadays? Basic respect is this: Good attitude toward others unless they give you reason not to be nice. Dont constantly spam shouts and ooc's. Dont try to push people out of their camps. Dont be rude. Dont call names and argue over trivial things. Dont ks or try to ks. Dont try to ninja loot. Basicly ALL of the things are common sense. If you can think stupid or smart then you can do this.

In these games, just as i will do in EQ2. I always hang with adults, i dont like playing with immature people any longer. I have my area's that i stay, thier is no room in my game for immature people. Alot of people are like me about matters like this. My blacklist gun keeps a smokin barrel.

I've already made a post about how much I dispise beggers, on this MB, but my cure all for the situation of me running through a newbie zone on EQ and someone rolling up to me and begging for plat.....I would say "hey there little buddy, you need help? You sit tight right there and I'll be right back." I would go to that town vendor and buy a fishing rod and some bait, super cheap, couple gold maybe and come back and give it to the guy/gal. I've had mixed comments comming from these newbies, from the pure abnoxious comments, to thanks! How do I use this, and then I would go on to describe how to fish and where to go and they would go on their merry way, because thats how I started making pp orginally to buy my spells as a little newbie shaman with my first main before Luclin was out and I started my Bst.

Why dont all of you take that stick out of your *** and chill.

1. People ARE going to ask questions. So what. People will be spamming "where is X" a lot more then they did in beta. Deal with it.

2. Why worry about other people's names? SOE has a naming policy and they will take care of it just fine. Dont need you to be the naming police K, thanks.

3. I dont think it is going to be a problem. Common, you really think people are going to be running around cussing up a storm? Dont think so.

4. Are you serious? We all gonna be newbs and no one is going to have money the first week. This WILL not even be an issue. And Yes I played EQ for 4 years. On extremeley rare occasion I was asked for plat I simply said no, gave them some, or laughed as they got mad at me. Either way, this wont be an issue at all.

5. If people want to solo through the game then for god's sake let them.

6. Dont think this will be an issue either. It is apparent rather quickly that Quests will be a major source of items and money.

So basically I think your little "what not to do list" is worthless.

You forgot the most important thing of all NOT to do.

"DO NOT" act like you can control people by telling them what to do. I have half a mind to find you in the game and do everything you just told us NOT to do. If I wanna get bossed around I will go to work, not play a game that **I** paid for and that **I** pay the monthly fee to play on the computer that **I** bought.

I think the best thing for people to do in any mmo is not let someone elses playing style bother you. If someone is doing something in a way that you don't like, it's much easier to ignore them then try to make them change.

Begging is the only thing that bothers me, not so much begging for info, but for items/money. I just don't pay any attention to it though.

Best thing to do with beggars, is just toy with them ;) You can always have an amusing time with beggars, make em do stupid stuff etc, tell em to meet an alt somewhere miles away, an obviously not turn up, I'm sure you can all think of interesting things to do also...

Just a little advice on money. Set up shop early in the game. Selling the things i got from quest and couldn't, people don't want to work for these things and will buy them. Also forage and sell makes it easy for a TSer to get some stuff done. Money is hard. I beta'd for 3 months and was lucky to ever see more than 10 gold at a time.
