I just purchased the Collector's edition digital download. Is it not possible to download the game yet?

No, not yet. The earliest you would be able to download the client would be for Phase 4 of beta. If you never applied, I suggest doing so this weekend. They will be cutting off applications on 7/30 and not opening them back up until the Phase 4 release, sometime around mid August. Phase 4 is open beta, so you will definitely get in. I suggest applying straight away so you can get a head start, as the devs have stated Phase 4 progress will carry over to release as long as no game breaking bugs are found.

If you pre-ordered a full Collector's Edition, you will also get early access to the official release, which we're speculating should be around 8/20, with the official release date being 8/27. If you just got the digital "upgrade" to your 1.0 Standard Edition, I don't believe that qualifies you for early access.

When I registered I tried to apply, but it was cut off as of the 22nd.

Ok, help guide me through this process, because some of it is kinda convoluted, and unlike how other MMOs handle their business.

1) I ordered the Collector's Edition digital download. Will the physical bonuses, like the art book, arrive in the mail at some point?

2) at what point will I be able to set up a subscription?

3) I've had a horrible experience with clickandbuy in the past. These guys are a nightmare, and a borderline scam. Please tell me there's a simpler way to pay.

4) I wasn't able to get into the P4 beta, so now I have to wait until open beta, which is when exactly?

5) did they keep the market wards, or did we get a proper AH?

6) the macro system in the original 14 didn't allow you to change your entire spell bar in one macro, has that been fixed? It's annoying to only be able to change 1-9 when I switch jobs.

7) are we still limited to a mere half dozen or so quests every 36 hours?

1) I ordered the Collector's Edition digital download. Will the physical bonuses, like the art book, arrive in the mail at some point? Um no, sorry, its cheaper to digital download because there are no physical goodies.

2) at what point will I be able to set up a subscription? After you log on with your SE account (lets say 8/27) its 2 weeks before you need to pay, and then its monthly, going by the date you original began payment. i.e. 5th of each month.

3) I've had a horrible experience with clickandbuy in the past. These guys are a nightmare, and a borderline scam. Please tell me there's a simpler way to pay. Uh, what guys? What scam. What site?

4) I wasn't able to get into the P4 beta, so now I have to wait until open beta, which is when exactly? Do you mean Early Access because you pre-ordered? The exact date is a hot topic we are still awaiting confirmation.

5) did they keep the market wards, or did we get a proper AH? We have AH and Retainers.

6) the macro system in the original 14 didn't allow you to change your entire spell bar in one macro, has that been fixed? It's annoying to only be able to change 1-9 when I switch jobs. Um, you talking pc or ps3? Keyboard has keybinds you can make, and controller also has option to put macros on it.

7) are we still limited to a mere half dozen or so quests every 36 hours?
There are different kinds of quests. Main quest/class quest, levequest and side quests. The levequests have a limitation to a certain amount per day. I guess they want us to sleep and eat at some point.

1) that's fine
2) Mine should be 8/20, so I'll set it up for then.
3)clickandbuy.com is a company Square uses as an option for making payments. http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=1364638028186031813#8 You can not possibly, ever in your life, find a worse company to do business with.
4) I missed the cut off to get into day 1 of phase 4, which as I understand is in the next few days, followed by everyone else, if I'm not mistaken.
5) Does this AH have a search function?
6) PC. The macros would only allow one command per line, with a maximum of 9 lines. It was crap when you wanted to change jobs.
7) This is a FF MMO. Having lived through vanilla FF XI, I've known what it is like to not sleep or eat. Will we be able to grind mobs in XP PTs, like in XI?

6) PC. The macros would only allow one command per line, with a maximum of 9 lines. It was crap when you wanted to change jobs. Jobs can changed by your weapon choice. There are special armor sets you can make, not part of macro.

Lower levels are solo, dungeons are light party of 4. I don't know about higher levels 30+

you might want to check youtube for macro how to's and other live letters.

6) PC. The macros would only allow one command per line, with a maximum of 9 lines. It was crap when you wanted to change jobs.Didn't touch macros during beta. I found the cross hot-bar for PS3 was enough for up to level 23 (my max during P3)
7) This is a FF MMO. Having lived through vanilla FF XI, I've known what it is like to not sleep or eat. Will we be able to grind mobs in XP PTs, like in XI?Not in the traditional find a camp and kill the same thing for hours way, no. XP from mobs is found in lots of places: Your hunt log (job specific solo), Grand Company hunt log (solo), dungeons (closest thing to FFXI party xp'ing), FATEs (lots of people-think public stuff from Rift/GW2, Guildhests (party), Guildleves (solo). And, of course, the quests mentioned above.

-Thank Celestia I don't have to go through them. Click and Buy wanted a photo copy of my driver's license, a bank statement, and a few other things. What the hell else could they ask for, a stool sample?
-I tried to get in a few days ago, and they wouldn't let me in, so today's cutoff was probably code registration for those who already applied, no?
-Hopefully there's a text input option. It was hell to find some things in the XI AH.
-I'll be playing on a wireless PC controller, with a wireless keyboard, from the comfort of my leather recliner, using my 47' flat screen as my monitor, so it should be the same experience as a PS3 only with insanely better hardware.
-That sounds......adequate?

I thought the cutoff today was for applications....either way though, Yoshi-P has stated you can apply the same day P4 starts, so you're in the clear. There's still no hard date, but everyone is guessing the week of 8/8, as that's when the next "Live Letter" is.

PS3, 37" Vizio, Wireless KB and controller and a Lane "Big Man" recliner here lol Smiley: grin

I don't recall there being a text input option. It was pretty much just select the icon of the type of item you were after. But, like I said, being on the PS3, though I do have a keyboard, I wasn't using it much at all, so I could very well have missed it.

There is a very small minority of 1.0 players who aren't pleased with the transition to 2.0. I feel your concerns are warranted given what 1.0 was like, but I would bet they've all been addressed, and well at that.

There's a fantastic tutorial system built in that will explain every nuance to you as well, so you won't be lost with all the changes either. Of course, there's a little box to check to say you don't want to see them, and you can access most of them from the menu after as well.

Welcome back!

A friend of mine played 1.0, and his character is currently on what will become a JP server. Is there any way he can transfer off, now that we're past the 7/15 deadline, or will he have to start fresh?

It shouldn't be a big deal if he has to start fresh, but it'd be nice if he didn't.

Legacy characters can't transfer off to new servers for about 6 months per Yoshi.

Actually I was wrong, he's on a legacy server. That's for people who want to play a 1.0 version of the game or something? He's on Excaliber.

All 1.0 characters are on Legacy servers. If you want to continue playing your 1.0 character in ARR you have to play it on a Legacy server. Your friend cannot migrate that character to a New server yet. You however could join him as a new character on his Legacy server.

Not at all

The difference is that Legacy servers are full of level 50 characters with lots of Gil.

I soon (probably tonight) will be pre-ordering a copy of the game for a friend that I want to play with me but he is unable to purchase the game for himself at this time. Since I am buying his copy of the game we have agreed that I'll be hijacking his pre-order bonuses since I am a legacy CE user and don't really have access to these pre-order items unless I just buy a new copy of the game for myself. When u pre-order the digital download how does it work really? Do you get an e-mail with a download button/link for the game and will the bonus items come bundled in this link or is there a separate link/code to add these items?

Yes you will get an email at or shortly before early release (not sure when yet) that gives instructions on how to access the digital download. Since this is how early access works for physical copy purchasers as well we still cant be sure of the timeline as nothing official has been released yet.

Any bonus items earned will be waiting for you in your Moogle Mail as deliveries. You can pick them up from the little Moogle with the mail pouch in whichever city you start in.

Each class has a unique set of actions saved to your hotbars; when you switch classes, the hotbars automatically switch as well. As for macros, I can't remember exactly how many lines you're limited to, but I want to say it was about 32 lines per macro, and you can make up to 100 macros. There are some macro guides floating about, and although there is a lot of overlap with FFXIV's system, there might be some differences you'll want to learn (I can't remember FFXIV's system perfectly, so I can't give you any examples off the top of my head). Here's a list of some commands:

/linkshell(/l)1-8. Typing /linkshell or /l without a message switches the default chat mode to [Linkshell].
/freecompany (/fc) Sends a message to all members of your free company, regardless of their location. Typing /freecompany or /fc without a message switches the default chat mode to [FreeCompany].
/echo (/e) [message] Displays a message that only you can see.

/partycmd (/pcmd) [subcommand] Executes various party commands. Opens your party members display when no subcommand is specified.
>>Subcommands:
add “PC name” – Invite a PC to your party.

Finally, you can save gear sets for each class. This is a built-in option for which you do not need to make any macros. However, you can drag these gear sets to your hotbars to make it very easy on yourself. From the manual:

Completing the level 10 class quest for any Disciple of War or Magic will unlock the Armoury system, allowing you to undertake the initiation quests for guilds of other disciplines. Once you have spoken to a guild receptionist and completed the initiation quest, you will be able to change to the corresponding class by equipping the proper weapon or tool.

Gear Sets
Unlocking the Armoury system also grants you access to gear sets. Gear sets allow you to instantly switch between multiple pieces of gear, saving you the time and effort of sifting through equipment stored in your armoury chest. These gear sets can be found in the Gear Set List of the Character menu.

Gear Set List
After gaining access to the Armoury system, players are granted an additional gear set for each class they unlock, which are all stored within the Gear Set List. All gear sets in this list can be placed on the hotbar, allowing players to instantly change classes with the press of a button. Players can also rearrange and rename gear sets.

Armoury Chest
Starting in phase 3, all players will carry an Armoury Chest. All gear purchased or found is automatically stored in this chest, which is categorized and sorted by type. The Armoury Chest is separate from your inventory, with each section allowing up to 25 pieces of gear.
* All gear must be placed in the Armoury Chest in order to be used with gear sets. If the gear registered to your gear set is in your regular inventory, you will not be able to equip it when switching to the corresponding gear set.

Any info on server transfers for legacy characters? I applied on day 1 to transfer from Masamune to Excalibur, but I haven't gotten any updates/emails. According to the XIV site my character is still on Masamune too.

Mine went through. Been playing my 1.0 character on his new server this weekend. With a name & appearance change as well.

Can't check the game right now because I'm in the middle of upgrading my PC. It's just strange that I didn't receive any kind of notification. Did you get an email or anything?
