We have identified an issue wherein certain customers using ClickandBuy as their means of paying fees for various services are being assessed an international transaction fee by their banks. The issue is currently being addressed so that these fees do not continue to occur. Not that you have an agenda or anything. =D

Honestly, I'm happy they're addressing this.

It's certainly the first thing about the new system that I complained about, in a few places. Glad to see they're not ignoring the issue.

I think I now know why Tanaka is back and what he's doing. He gives advice based on how he ran FFXI & FFXIV, the dev team says thank you, then does the complete opposite. He is a sage source of wisdom, albeit via negativa.

Old SE would have covered it up, and if they didn't remain silent, would have denied it and it would take months and months to get SE to move an inch.

I am very pleased to see them addressing this. I went the paypal route but I am not thrilled about having to buy the little crysta things. Either way, I just want them to have a stable means of billing and hope this is a huge step toward it.

now if they'd hurry up and bring in the new CC option they promised was coming....getting a bit anxious. Got some messages about trying to get some Nyzul going, and I need some weaponskills still. Might have to just bite the bullet and re-up soon with that @#$@#$ Crysta crap...holding out as long as I can for direct CC option to be re-instated.

provided you haven't transferred at all, that option is still working. But, for those that went ahead and transferred, you no longer have a choice to pay directly with a CC anymore--it was shoot it through either C&B or buy crysta via C&B, Paypal, or a UGC.

They just recently added the option to buy crysta directly with a CC--but that's still not a direct, recurrent billing to your CC option like what was previously available through POL. ONLY the JP region got to continue like that. THAT is what the big crapstorm was about when all this went down...and what a lot of people are waiting for them to implement before they start paying them again Some have no choice, as they have no other means to pay).

While the option to buy crysta directly with a CC works for many that had issues with C&B, it still does nothing for those that were also denied the option to buy Crysta because of SE's legal concerns with those regions. Those players still have no way to pay if there is an issue getting C&B to work.

What really baffles me is how quickly they were able to add the direct purchase method for purchasing the Crysta (which, if I remember correctly, provides the option to save your CC info for future use??!!). And yet....they haven't been able to use that same portal (or setup a new one) for recurring subscriptions for the non JP players.

Wonder what the holdup is?

Great woot. I had this happen to me last month, had contacted SE, They bumped up the ticket to investigate on it cause it happened to me with Bank of America and it bothered me that before we didnt have this fee, then now we did without warning. Guess they made good on it now. =)

Did they just force the switch or something?

My account had been running fine and I was under the impression that they were waiting to unveil more appealing options before making us switch payment methods.

I want to play, but honestly, if they're going to make me jump through hoops and not just re-enter my CC info, I'm just going to go resub to eve online or something as an equivelant time-waster.

Did they just finally remove the direct pay option?

If you transfer your info fully to the SE Account Management (SEAM) you have to change to either C&B or Crysta method. If you haven't transferred your data to SEAM yet (still in the old POL system) you are OK. However, you can't update any of your POL info. So if you get a new card and need to update the exp. date or something, you have to transfer to SEAM to edit it--and then you get hit with the newer screwy payment methods.

They were supposed to give us a way to select the exact amount of Crysta by Early fall, and are supposed to give us an alternative to C&B for credit card by mid-fall. We're in the 6th week of the 13 week Fall cycle (Sept. 23 to Dec. 22)...waiting to hear something from SE on what's going on with all this from the 8/24/11 announcement:

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/13316-NA-Square-Enix-Account-Transfer-Period-Extended
Quote:
[NA] Square Enix Account Transfer Period Extended
In order to implement payment option improvements, we have extended the transfer cut-off date from the original deadline of August 31 to mid fall 2011 (specific date to be determined).

The following improvements will be implemented to the billing system:
- New credit card payment option for Crysta [Available Now]
- The ability to specify exactly how much Crysta you want to buy [Early Fall]
- New recurring payment credit card options [Mid Fall]

Although the transfer period has been extended, please note that players who complete the transfer process prior to August 31, 2011 will be rewarded with a special in-game item for FINAL FANTASY XI. Please visit here for more details.

So far, all I saw they they did was toss in a way to buy Crysta directly with a CC after you opt for Crysta/Ultimate Pay option.

Yeah, new card info, account goes down...

As much as I want to play, I can't really justify jumping through all those hoops just to get it running again. I'd feel like some kind of hopeless junkie.

Guess my time in FFXI has come to an abrupt end for now, heh.

Yea they kinda do force you. I mean if you didnt change it, they will bill you and keep account active. However, one thing I did have on MY account, I couldnt login to my game unless I switched over the info to the new system. Wouldnt let me login till I did. So yea, they force you to pick a new system of payment, then you got charged a intl fee from your bank when the monthly billing came. The new system however IS nice. Why? Cause its no longer REQUIRED to be 1st of the month, you can change it to be better for you.

There are other advantages to the SE account system besides being able to update your billing, you know. Those of us with security tokens were using the SE Account system for a full year or two before the billing stuff switched over. (One reason I had so few issues setting it up; my problems were with my bank charging me extra fees for C&B.)

I guess I didn't see it as "a hassle" because in today's modern society, I'm constantly filling out registration forms left and right and I don't even think about it that much any more.

I see it as a hassle mostly because ClickAndBuy has extra fees, and they're essentially expecting me to sign up for a service so they can charge me for the transaction so that they don't have to bother paying for the billing themselves; just outsource the job to someone else and the fees to the customers.

Or crysta, which you can't seem to buy directly, unless you go through clickandbuy... which again, fees and apparently they already screwed up at least once. Else it's hunting down game cards...

So, constantly buying game cards, or going through a service that charges me extra just to let SE be lazy puts me in a position where I can't justify giving them my money anymore. It's not that the actual price or effort is too much, but more like eating at a restaurant where the waitress gives you the finger and tells you to cross the street, come back, and pay your bill in lottery tickets, so not only do you have to go out of your way, but you have to pay 20$ for a 15$ meal -and- go through extra crap...

tl;dr- I am too offended by the way they've handled this and would feel like one of those people who gets a black eye "falling down" and goes crawling back to SE as an addict who can't quit even when they feel dirty with the system. Essentially, feeling like I am being screwed ruins any ability to enjoy the game, so welp.

???

Are you not getting the option to buy your crysta directly with a CC, redeem a UGC card, or buy it through PayPal?

Haven't been there in about a month (haven't seen any point in it since no notice about them tweaking payment options yet)...but seem to recall when I went through the motions like I was going to add Crysta via Ultimate Pay, I had 3 panels to choose from for payment.

Pay with Crysta -> Pay via Ultimate Pay -> Pay with Credit Card

I buy 3000 crysta every other month (main + 2 mules), my card is charged exactly $30.00, and I never had to go anywhere near Click and Ban. I have to manually initiate the transaction, but UP remembers my card number and CVN, so I just click OK a lot.

And UP takes Discover Card, which SE never did.

Does it? The only options I got for "Pay with Crysta" were ClickAndBuy, and those game cards you buy in stores. I don't remember seeing ultimate pay, just playspan and clickandbuy...
