Believe me I'd love to spend more time outside, but right now the weather sucks and I'd be miserable if I did for too long. I live in northeast PA and we've had a terribly cold winter, and today is another dreary overcast day with no sunshine and low temps. It's currently 42 degrees outside my house and that's warm compared to some days, but it'll be going down below freezing again by nightfall. Furthermore a few nights ago we got hit with 3 1/2 inches of rain to add to the snow melt and previous weeks storms. There's a lot of flooding going on atm; so much so that our sump pump got overwhelmed and we had to buy a second auxiliary pump yesterday to keep the water out of our basement, although I know people whose basements actually did flood so thus far I've been fortunate to only have soaking rugs. The Lehigh and Delaware rivers are dangerously high as well, but that aside it's just been a very long, very cold, dreary winter with several bad snows in January as well.

Every place on earth runs a risk of extreme conditions; the type just varies from one geographical location to another. Be it storm, fire, quake, volcano, blizzard, drought, tornado, flood and w/e else nature can conjure up the result is going to be similar. It eats at the psyche and brings morale down. I'd love to wash my car but there's so much mud on the roads it would be dirty again by the time I got home. When conditions clear up I'm going to be spending some time sun bathing at the pool and I'd like to go hiking this summer, but until things warm up I'll be indoors. In the light of water everywhere Minecraft and anime is a better way to spend my time than mud romping. I'm also doing my weekly chores today, but that's just life rather than fun hehe.

Charity Watchdog has a request that you send cash donations, not goods. During the tsunami of 2004 they got boxes and boxes of sh*t like winter coats and scarves as donations for victims, which were pretty useless for the tropical nations that were actually affected. They prefer cash donations because they can 1. buy stuff people really need and 2. buy it closer to the point of disaster to reduce shipping. So while the crocheted blankets are a really awesome and thoughtful gesture, be sure to make sure they go to Hokkaido where they can actually be used!

Japan is an industrialized nation and is going to be able to cope with this far more easily than Haiti did. What they need at this point is pure first responder relief until their insurance companies can figure out who needs to be reimbursed for what. If you want to donate cash to a cause, look for charities that are already out on the ground there: http://www.charitywatch.org/hottopics/JapanTsunami2011.html

Edit: PM of Japan just said that it's the worst situation the country has faced since WWII.

I remember all the useless stuff that got sent in 2004, that's why I thought something that could be really used like blankets would be a better idea since they can be a year round item. Since I usually tend to make for kids, they're made with easily machine washable, durable acrylic yarns instead of fancier yarns that require special care. Once things are more or less organized over there, I might make up a bunch of stuffed animals to send for the kids there.

I have donated through texting the Red Cross but I feel like the people there are going to need some things to help getting them started getting their lives back to normal. I know those back in 2004 thought the winter stuff was a good idea and their hearts were in the right places but I don't think they thought about it logically. I think regular household items used on a daily basis are a better donated item such as blankets, cooking items, dishes, etc to help them start getting everything back to normal.

Money is a good idea at all times. For those who want to donate items there are organizations in place that handle getting them to where they are needed. My church has a setup for both money and goods already in place for disasters and I know there are more like Catholic Charities for instance.
If it turns out your money and/or items are not needed this time they are stored and sent to other disasters as needed.
Any way you decide to help is going to be appreciated now or in the future.
As for here the sun is shining and it is later in the day than I thought!

Hmmmm, I was debating over playing Tactics Ogre nonstop now (instead of looking from time to time if there was any interesting shout in PJ) or studying a bit for the exercise I have to do this Thursday...

...And instead I found myself spending 4 hours in Marvel vs Capcom 3 training mode >_>

I was barely playing to begin with. Honestly, I only signed back up to keep my names intact in case I ever want to really play again. I have DA2 to keep me occupied for now and there's always Minecraft.

gonna focus on breeding stronger monsters now that my copy of "Dragon Warrior Monsters: Tara's Adventure" has arrived. Been playing "the "Cobi's Journey" version but I am looking forward to having more breeding stock to play with and more keys. I just need to find my frigging link cable.

It is amazing how such an old game can be so fun! DWM Joker kind of sucks in comparason, which is a damn shame. Is there a advance or DS version of DWM that doesn't suck? Or am I going to be playing the GBC version forever?

I'm not. Honestly, Invader Zim is one of those things that I've heard of, but have no freaking idea what it actually is. I don't even know if you just downloaded a game series, a TV series, a movie series, or even a series of books. Invader Zim is just a name to me. It means nothing.

It was one of them Good/Great toons (created by Jhonen Vasquez) to come from Nickelodeon. It has somehow managed to gain a cult following within the last few years in my part of the world with Emo/Goth/Whatever they are called now peeps, kind of like The Nightmare Before Christmas.
I found it to be a funny cartoon. It is about an alien who is attempting to take over the world. He just isn't very good, or makes some minor mistakes that come back and he fails in the end. He also has a retarded Robot that makes the show even better.

since I'm on nights at work and got most of this week off (only work wednesday and thursday this week), I have to find various ways to keep busy. The PS3 is still broke (the cost estimate I got to fix it is way too high) so this means trying to find something on the XBOX 360 to keep me busy.

My old manager used to joke, when we had enough time to take a lunch break, about the fiery burning ball of gas in the sky.

I work in a basement, in Canada, so jokes about the sun are always relevant.

Aside from the the fact that "lol" has been and never will be considered a valid way to finish a sentence, you can take your Spring and go shove it up your ***. It snowed two days ago here. I'll go outside when the weather warrants it, not because an arbitrary day on a calendar has come and gone. Not that that day has actually come and gone yet, it is technically still Winter.
