This post is more for the benefit of players I've befriended and partied with over the years.

I've been playing Final Fantasy XI now since 2004. I've levelled three mages to 75, completed dozens of storylines and enjoyed hours of death and destruction in Dymamis. Still, there's a lot I was unable to do and there is a small pang of regret there for the events I could not do due to time constraints or problems with finding a team for them, usually both.

I've played a lot of MMO's and despite its problems, Final Fantasy is still one of the better games out there. It's draw is magnetic, and I will sorely miss the friends I have made over the years.

Yes, if you haven't figured it out by now, im leaving the game for good. I will not be returning. This is not a break this is a final farewell.

The majority of my reasons for leaving are personal ones, but its no secret that I've become somewhat disillusioned about SE's plans for the game. While they have made some interesting developments over the years, recent times have seen more 'gimmicky' updates rather than any which truly address any of the big problems in the game.

This latest update seems targeted at highlighting those problems rather than fixing any of the. Such as drawing attention to the lack of Summoner support by giving them a weak 'aura' effect which few would want to use anyway. Drawing attention to the difficulties in finding members for various events by creating a crafting system which relies on even more stringent criteria.

Despite it's problms however, I still love the game. Even through all my rantings on the forum, this game has been a joy to play. Hard and good times both. Whatever the future has in store for Vana'diel, im sure it will continue to be just as entertaining.

Goodbye everyone. See you all in Final Fantasy XIV...

Yea... if you're going to list reasons that lead you to quit the game it might be nice to... you know... wait for the ******* system to actually come out before ******** about it?

Hell, why not quit the game because of how horrible things are going to end up after the great "lets gimp everything" update of late 2014.

Can I Jinte have your stuff? (I actually crossed the "I" out because I have no intention of putting a character on Siren just to mooch someone's stuff... but since Jinte's there, I figured dumping a bunch of mage gear on him would be entertaining. :-D)

I always find it funny when they add this to their farewell. What makes people think if they didn't like something about FFXI SE isn't gonna do the same thing over again in FFXIV?

In the end, /goodbye Crystan, hardly knew ye, but I was very fond of reading your posts in =10 and seeing you around in Siren.

Can I haz your stuffz? I know, you probably already gave it to your LS mates or friends, but you can't blame me for trying.

I hope they do. FFXI is an incredible game, and a lot of fun to play. If the new game is even a fraction as good as the current one is, then there's bound to be a lot of enjoyment to be be had. As I've said, my main reasons for leaving the game have nothing to do with the updates and are entirely personal reasons.

Actually, I confess that nobody got my stuff. My character was deleted and as such is unrecoverable, taking all of my items and gil with it.

So I've got a good three or four years then ;)

The rest of you posters need not worry. I'm not one of those lingering types who continues to post about a game they no longer play. I'll take some time to respond to the more polite of you, but once this post is dead and buried so will be my forum presence.

...at least until they add a FFXIV section...

You mean like this forum?

It'll get expanded in the future (well, unless FF14 tanks - see the lolVanguard forum) but it is a FF14 section, such as it is.

I find it amusing myself that anyone thinks FFXIV is going to get any different treatment. The problem for FF online games is the company that makes them. I'm sure other "virgin" MMO developers didn't fare much better than SE but SE has proven time and again with FFXI that while they are great game designers, they are poor MMO material and are showing no signs of improvement. If you're going to play FFXIV, make it about you knowing you're a weak person who can't say no instead of trying to play it off on hoping it's going to be different from FFXI. At least be honest to yourself about your reasoning. I think we all have earned that right by now.

It's not hard to admit it. I have no beef with admitting that if I play FFXIV and that if is mostly a yes at this point in time because I would like to at least try it out and see the advancements in graphical technology, it's going to be because I'm too weak to say enough is enough and I'm going to sacrifice my fun time because I'm sick of **** poor customer service and unacceptable game support with 3 month+ long updates after a mere couple of years post launch. That is the plain truth nothing more and nothing less and you're only fooling yourself if you think you're a special case. We've all been boned one way or another whether we know it or not and we only have ourselves to blame if we open our arms and welcome them to do it all over again with another game. Will I be sucked in and doomed for another 7 years of SE's GD BS? Maybe. The important question is: Will YOU allow them to suck you in again?

Hmm.

Touche sir...

However, you should never delete your character. Cancel the ID, cancel your subscription, uninstall the game, and pretend you never got it. Because in however-long if you -do- decide to come back, it will hit you like a ton of bricks and suck very horribly.

I always try to tell people this:

Deleting your character will not do anything for you, other than possibly make you miserable. If you really have the willpower and determination to quit and don't want to play anymore, it won't matter if all your stuff is canceled and uninstalled, you'll stay away. However, if you have the urge strong enough to not resist the temptation anymore to come back, you'll come back anyways and be one of those "Ohh I lost my character, having to restart again, sux" people.

Moral of the story, never delete characters.

This.

1 player games are fun for a while, but you start to get a bit lonely and miss the interaction that MMO's can provide.

And after FFXI, no other MMO seems to hit the spot. They're all too... easy.

Never delete anything. Ever.

If anyone honestly thinks the dev team that have shown their colors over and over and over again are going to change then they are retards. I find it stupid how many people that are quitting or were banned that are getting ready to line Squares pocket all over again, you hate them and you are quitting angry but ready to pay them for the next game...thats kinda just what they want you to do lol

There are other things out there. Some people make it seem that if there was no FFXI, we would all spiral into a black nothingness.

Besides, he said he's waiting for XIV. I'd say that's enough motivation to quit for good if he knows he'll be moving on to something else.

Anyway, Cyrstan, enjoyed your posts. Thanks for the insight.

Meh,
Cry me a river. To just say you dislike the new content and the gimics that are in the game is a "Lame" excuse for leaving one of the best MMORG's around. I for one will not wish you good luck. You have lots of the things many of us wish for and to drop it period is sad.

P.S.
Shame your not on my server I'd say:

Really I always feel people do not know how to use tools to their advantage becuase if it doesn't fit with their establish play style it has no place. Anyways people quitting over stuff like this is just stupid. Especially if they already have another title on the way it will only reinforce the feeling that FFXI is slowly becoming less fruitful to develop for and just should let the game play out with what it has. It's said but that's where attitudes like this is going to leave us.
