In before SE announces that the in-game item is TH9 or MAB +100 or something game-breaking so everyone has to buy one or be gimp.

$40 for the talisman was reasonable. It was pewter, and while the craftsmanship wasn't spectacular (it wasn't polished down enough and looked all weird and gray), it was a nice item to wear at Dragon Con.

$106 for a silver pendant, though? Really?

Well, I know what I'm asking for for a birthday present. Smiley: frown

Honestly, where does SE come up with these prices? $40 for the tidal talisman is a bit high, but no horridly gouging you wallet. This though...honestly...$107 is a bit much.

Someone over at SE apparently didn't get the message about people getting fed up with the blatant money grabbing. They look cool, but that price is a bit on the insane side.

$106? Christ, the talisman was out of my spending range. Lower it to 20, then we'll talk.

Actually, just release the tarutaru trading arts figures that were previewed at comic con. I want those bad. Oh, Robel-Akbel... Smiley: blush

I don't think anyone in over at S-E is getting any messages, let alone those about exorbitant prices.

For a dog tag you could get at any vending machine with the same type of inscription I'd pay $5 tops! Now if the chain is solid silver along with solid dog tag then maybe due to increases of silver's market value lately that could explain the pricing but still too expensive to justify buying especially with no indication of in-game item, yet.

There is a common misunderstanding about what a hallmark really is. Many people confuse hallmarks with makers' marks. A hallmark is nothing more than an indication of metal content, a guarantee of purity or quality, which may include a maker’s mark and other marks. Makers' marks alone are not considered hallmarks. Hallmarks are most often found on precious metal objects. Jewelry is exempted from hallmarking under certain circumstances. However, when a piece of jewelry is hallmarked, the marks can yield clues to country of origin and, sometimes, date of manufacture, as well as indicate the metal content of the piece.

The only reason they know they can get away with this is because somewhere there is someone that will buy anything that they put their name, logo or game reference on. Bands do it all the time.

Although I do understand there are hardcore FFXI players with too much money (seen how many people buy $2k bots or stupidly priced 2nd accounts?) I think they have totally the wrong idea, I'm sure they would make more money selling these at resonable price so more can could get them hiking the price sky high.

Anyone that thinks FFXI is not just a cash cow now hopefully changed their mind, I love how they can release this rmt crap but show no real intrest in the actual product stil...I know this crap helps to pay for 14's development so thats why but it's still pretty sh*tty to milk the crap out of a loyal userbase to pay for another products development.

They aren't even all that well done...

$107 is way too much for a dog tag. $20-$25 seems reasonable. Those engraver kiosks that you find in a local mall don't even cost that much.

Couldn't they have bothered with some colored enamel for a background?

I might be crazy enough to buy it, but only if there's an unique ingame item attached. Otherwise I'll wait for the €15 brass mass-produced version...

It's sad but truth is there probably will be, they know they wont sell more than 20-30 of these but if they add a good ingame item they can guarantee regardless of the price they will sell out in a week.

A in-game item makes all the difference.

$106 is a steep price for something like that, something that very few people actually want.

However, if like someone said, it came with an in-game item that gave Haste+10%, they'd sell out almost instantly.

I've played FFXI since 2003, but a dog chain with my character name and server, just doesn't seem like something that will be anything more than worthless to me down the line.

The in-game item better dispense fully upgraded relic and mythic weapons at that price.

I think it's important to remember that SE (at one time anyway) was big on customization. If everyone buys a pendant, then there is nothing "special" about those who have the associated in game item. I think SE prices (in addition to maximizing profit) may also take this into account and price the item higher so that those who do buy will have something more unique.

Basically I look at it as a way for people with the finances to buy gil to legitimately use their real money to customize their character. Most of the value of the in game item is in its rarity and looks not necessarily its effects, but we'll have to wait and see.

I don't mind getting my dog a frisbee or a ball or something, but no way i'm spending $106 on a solid silver tag he'll just lose after a day anyhow. Why would anyone even want that on his dog anyhow?

Do note sarcasm, what a stupid name for it.
