I never had video games as an early child, I do remember finding my parents Atari in their bedroom at some point before I knew what a console was though. One Christmas we all woke up early and went down to the tree too see what Santa had brought us, you know check the boxes out shake em around try to guess what they were.
Eventually after hours and hours of trying to wake up my parents we got to open our presents. My Santa gift this special year was a Sega master System, Awesome I thought, I had never really bugged my parents for a video game console, (just readily assumed they'd never get me one) Most of my friends had NES or Commodore 64's at this point in time.
It wasn't till Christmas of 1988 when I really played my first RPG, Again one Christmas morning, presents all wrapped up and I was specifically looking for one present that was wrapped in the old school Sega cartridge boxes.... I really wanted to see one of those wrapped gifts so i could hug it and say YES!!!! a Video Game.... there were NO! wrapped boxes that looked like video games under the tree this year... =(
We opened up all our presents under the tree, my two sisters and my younger brother. Tape Cassettes, clothes, VHS's old school stuff.. And there was one last gift under the tree with my name on it. (It wasn't in the shape of a Video Game) I carefully unwrapped the gift, to find a box of Kellogg's Raisin Bran, I smiled, placed the box beside my other presents and hugged my mom and dad saying "Thank-You for the wonderful gifts"..... My mother quickly told me to open up the box of Raisin Bran... so I turned around and opened up the box to find Phantasy Star.... My eyes lit up brighter than the sun... from than on I would conquer any RPG I saw on the shelf, each story bringing different trials and triumphs as I played them. Till 20 some odd years later where I'm still playing them =P
so I guess Thanks Mom and Dad!!!
