Skilling Up Solo?Follow

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if there is anywhere worth skilling up solo that isn't too dangerous for me either aggro wise, or actual kill wise. I am asking this because level sync has screwed me over, I am a lvl 50 DRG/WAR and my polearm skill is currently level 120, I need Penta Thrust! :D Anyway, all help is appreciated, thanks.

If you've got a mage job and WotG, you could skill up on Colibri in E. Ronfaure [S] - this will take you to 144 without too much in the way of issues (you'll spend a lot of time fairly low on HP, though, as Healing Breath obviously won't go off unless you're below 1/3 of your max HP).

You can probably get the last six skill levels before Penta Thrust in a non-synced party at that point.

I've heard about this working but have been too scared to try it out. Apparently, if you go into Campaign with tags off and start hitting mobs, you can gain skill ups off of them. Just find a really crowded campaign where you're guaranteed not to pull hate off the mob, if this works of course. I'm not sure if AoE will hit you with tags off but are hitting the mob, so you might have to look out for that.

Best bet: 50 and below, go smack fortifications tagless.

I've heard about that Campaign trick, but I'm afraid that I'll pull hate, and can anyone confirm if AoE hits you in Campaign without tags? :O Apparently eldieme [S] is good because there are no non-campaign mobs anywhere near the fort, but I cannot seem to find the fort, can anyone direct me to a map that shows where the fort is in eldieme [s]?

At level 50 and without Penta Thrust, this should be quite near impossible for you if there are level 75s on the same mob.

Apparently in Eldieme [S] the fort is at (I-8), but my problem is, which map? I'm not entirely sure if you can go on all the maps anyway, I know the one main one, but is the fort on that map?

According to wiki:

Directions to Eldieme Necropolis (S): Teleport to Batallia Downs (S) (I-7) on top of the fortified wall. Enter the side closest to Jeuno and head directly south to (I/J-10) towards the sea, keeping an eye on Goblin patrols. There will be a door guarded by a Bastokan soldier in a large mound which is the entrance.

Wait nevermind, you wanted fort. Give me a sec...

This is the first map, and all the Campaign NPCs seem to be in the same area around I-8 and J-8, so I'm guessing there's your spot. Good luck!

You will not take AoE damage at all with no tags unless you pull hate, which will pretty much only happen if everyone else dies.

Also, campaign mobs won't aggro you if you have no tags unless you pull hate on the one you're fighting while some unaggroed ones are nearby. In that case, they will still link onto you.

But, if I have no tags, and I attack the fort without tags, and there are campaign mobs nearby, will they aggro me? Or is it like you said for mobs and only if I pull hate on them somehow? Because I doubt I'm going to skill on the actual mobs, I just want to skill on the fort.

Think the best place to skill up on a fort is CN, if it's beastmen owned. Don't think I've ever seen turtlemen wander over there. Last time I tried skilling up on a fort, (GC), ended up getting aggro from nearby birds. I was the last one standing, but they got me anyhow.

I'm pretty sure the campaign mobs link to the fortifications. However, there are a lot of rooms in eldieme with fortifications, so not many of the defending beastmen groups spawn by the campaign arbiter even when they are there.

you can do the campaign trick but just hitting the forts. try doing it when no mobs spawn and just auto attack it... you will get skillups to lvl 50

I experimented a little with the fortifications in Eldieme for skill ups.

If you are attacking the fortifications with or without tags, if the mobs spawn and someone with tags is attacking then they will link and kill you.

If no-one with tags is attacking then the mobs just leave you alone, but if anyone with tags comes over and attcks then the mobs will go for them and then link to you.

So basically if only tagless people attacking then you're safe skilling up, even with mobs in the room, but if anyone comes over with tags, disengage quickly =)

Another option is to use your NPC. As a DD job, a leveled Soothing Healer NPC is a great thing to have. I've become somewhat addicted to Campaign and have used my NPC to keep my weapon / magic skills capped whenever I get a level. The mobs you target will depend on your NPC's level (as well as your weapon skill level) but I generally target Even Match to low-Tough mobs.

For instance, in my early sixties, I went after Robber Crabs in Kuftal Tunnel (along with half of the rest of the server). Once those crabs got to be too weak and stopped giving consistent skillups, I went after their tougher cousins in the Boyahda Tree. Once those got to be too weak, things got a little more interesting (Steelshells are great skillup mobs, but there's a pretty big level gap between those crabs and the Robber Crabs). I ended up finding a nice little camp in the Meriphataud Mountains [S] with two speedy Raptor spawns. Raptors are a bit more problematic than crabs, to be sure, but they're still not bad NPC-leveling targets.

Obviously, if your weapon skill levels are close to capped, the gold standard for skilling up is a normal (non-Level Synced) party. If they're not, your best bet is a standard "safety-in-numbers" skillup party. Still, if you enjoy soloing and a little bit of a challenge, pushing the envelope with your NPC adventuring fellow is a good way to keep your skills capped. It's also a great way to level your NPC if it's not already leveled -- and having a leveled NPC is handy for so many reasons.

Plus, you get to keep all of the drops. All of the Beastmen's / Kindred's Seals and H.Q. Crab Shells are yours. The skins dropped by the raptors are going for 30K/stack on Garuda (and they have a better drop rate on the higher-level ones than their lower-level cousins in the present day). And if you pop an Empress Band before you start, you can even get a non-trivial chunk of EXP for your troubles, though of course the EXP you'll get pales in comparison to what you would get in a good party (or even in Campaign, for that matter).

The Vana'diel Bestiary is a great tool for finding mobs to skill up on. Enter your job, level, and current skill, and it will suggest mobs to target. If you want to go the NPC route, it may suggest mobs that are a bit too difficult for you to solo, so use the "Standard Exp Mob Search" and look for mobs that are DC-T to you.
