Whats your funniest memory in the game ?Follow

#1 Jan 14 2009 at 12:03 PM Rating: Excellent
I was thinking tonight over old times, and remembered a funny party I once had .

Now, the party was good on paper - good set up, on of each mage (this was back when there was only whm, blm, and rdm) a solid tank, and two strong DD's. Off we trotted to fight crabs in the boyhada tree.

Most of us have sneak oils, one person didn't though, and picked up a yummy bit of crab aggro - Aquarius . Imediately, he let us know in party, and started haring off back towards the zone, while we followed, taking turns to take the hate for a few seconds to make sure that we all got out alive . With some good work from the mages, we made it out, past the two parties killing spiders, to the zone .

Now, aquarius doesn't depop , but instead walks slowly back to his spot. We knew this, so we left it a coupld of minutes before zoning back in, and then we followed, a little behind the crab, as he made his way back - past the two parties killing spiders. Suddenly, he decides to aggro one of the other parties members , and since its out fault he's there, our party once again takes the hate and runs back to zone . Sadly, the guy who got the aggro didn't zone, and the crab wiped him .

This repeated itself many many times, with the crab picking off members of the other parties, and us zoning each time so as to not be the next targets . Eventually, everyone got safely out of the crabs path, and we left it a couple of seconds before zoning back in, a group of some 15 people (some had left in a huff at the death and delay) creeping slowly into the Boyhada Tree, following one slow moving crab .

My funniest moment involved Aquarius, too. I was skilling up my one handed axes in the tree with a Red Mage friend, and we were just constantly pulling crabs because we had to compete with exp parties there, and our skill was still too low for the Steel Shells. Well, it's blue and looks kind of like a bug, so I voke pull it back.

Yep, Aquarius.

I had a new sky linkshell years ago... we fought Suzaku down to her last sliver of health... and wiped.

One of our paladins outside the alliance happened to have RR up-- he gets up, BOOM! Shield Bash for 13 damage.

Suzaku falls to the ground.

I laughed for about 15 minutes.

Aquarius always provided humor... at least till I got caught in some *******'s attempt at MPKing a RMT with gobule's while I was skilling up weapons.

I was powerleveling a party at the banishing gate, when my cursor happened upon Old Two Wings. Grinning to myself, I decided to see if I could solo it. After all, it's just a weak lil NM and I'm a 75 WHM with capped club, right? Right?

What I didn't take into account was that I was WHM/SMN and I only had about half MP, and that bat hits pretty hard. After about five minutes, I was out of MP and he was down to 20%, but even Benediction couldn't save me.

Then, the white mage in the party I had been powerleveling decided to try to "help" even though I had explicity warned them not to. So I die, and Old Two Wings aggros that party. One of their guys managed to zone it, but like Aquarious, he walks back slowly, and proceeded to kill everyone else in all of Garliage Citadel.

Moral of the Story: Don't attack a NM if you're not 100% ready to go!

One time I was in the dunes, and our puller was pulling flies near VE spawn, as well as crabs, etc. So one pull he says in his pull macro, "Pulling Valkurm Emperor." Most of us laughed, thinking it was puller humor, but here he comes, with the valkurm emperor in tow and with a level 75 player following him. he wipes before reaching us, but that was always hilarious to me.

My funniest moment in this game was certainly some CoP Missions (namely: Diabolos). The first time around we had no idea how to kill him, and our static stunner was kinda slow, so we'd make bets on wether he was gonna able or not to stun all Nightmares. Was fun as hell and I made some gil.

Other excellent moment in this game was doing PM in the Aqueducts, with no map and eveyone refising to check a map online so we'd get that "adventuring" experience. Found a NM that wiped us, got lost, made a lot of EXP down there for like 6 hours until we could find the Minotaur. Funny because one member got lost and strayed to far, we all got drawn in and since we were not full HP/MP we barely survived the fight with the SAM at 20 HP and everyone else dead.

The Soboro Sukehiro fight was a blast too. Went in with 14 people. Everyone got their soboro. No one ever left, not even the guys that got it first. The fight was so much fun, I tanked as a PLD, lots of self-destruct, death, red hp, sleeping, mistimed stuns, etc. that made this fight one of the most memorable ones I remember in this game, and I guess that's why I grew very fond of the Rivene zones.

Back in 2005 I was helping my little brother with his 1st BCNM and told him to make a macro for his 2hr. He had never made a macro before and wasn't 100% sure how they worked. He made the macro and a minute later I see him use his 2 hour and then said "Sweet it worked. These macro's are pretty cool" A buddy of mine and I said "..." and "WTH did you just use your 2 hour?" Followed by him saying "OMG I am a jackass".

Lesson: Macro testing with your 2 hour macro is a bad idea.

Many lulz were had that day and still have them looking back.

Funniest moment:

A WAR leading my pt sees a ??? in korroloco (yes typo intentional) tunnel and says "hey, let's pop a morion worm!!!"

I tell the WAR there's no way in hell she can take it, she says 'oh, we can take it, we're in a party..."

I didn't even bother to engage, I ran like hell in the opposite direction. Don't know for sure but I think she beat me to zone--by air.

Oh this is easy.. my most hilarious memory would have to be my very first day of playing ffxi. I was as noob as noob could be . . . not really involved in all things final fantasy and completely new to the MMO genre. I pick my cute little mithra, equip my giant wooden spoon, learn my cure spell and wander out into the wilderness of the ronfaure.

"Hmm" i think. "What do I do now?"

I ask my fiance wth I was supposed to do in this game anyway. . so he tells me that I need to level, gain experience points by killing animals.

So. . . in all my glorious noobness, I stumble across some bunnies.

"..heh, bunnies are so cute.. and weak.. I bet I could take those.."

So I continue in this fashion until I'm a big bad level 4. Oh yeah, level 4. I was uber now. I spot this giant sheep standing nearby. . .

"eh.. sheep are pretty docile creatures.. sure it's bigger than a bunny.. but I'm a LEVEL FOUR!!!"

So I walk over to the sheep and poke it in the butt with my spoon. . . and immediately died.

Every time I think of that moment I giggle at the complete confusion that came over me. I didn't even know what a Home Point was X)

I don't know if I'd call this my funniest moment in the game, but to my friends that were there at the time it certainly ranks high because they'll never let me live it down:

Me and a buncha friends, level 60s (in other words, real effin long time ago), looking for a coffer in sh*tadel for our PLD in the bunch. We were invised up and stealthing around, running back and forth between the gate 2 and gate 3 areas.

We come across what seemed to be a couple JP guys killing Explosures for the {limit}1 item. I'm kinda braindead at this point, so I just run past them without really thinking anything of it... suddenly, it starts readying Self-Destruct. BOOM.

All of us are caught in the explosion. Our party takes mild-moderate damage, except for our lofty RDM (that would be me), who gets blasted for 800 something damage, and promptly pops out of invisible and collapses to the ground. One-hit KO at full HP (although upon further research I realized that had I not been wearing my "default" +MP/-HP gear at the time, I would have barely lived... orz). Massive lulz ensued, except for the JPs who were profusely apologizing and raised me, although I bet in PT chat they were lulzing it up as well.

This had to be like 3 or so years ago, but it still comes up in conversation just about every time I have an embarrassing moment in game >_>

Probably the biggest /facepalm funny moment for me, would have to be...

Im leveling smn in wajoam woodlands. The party I am in gets unlucky and we get a pop right on camp. Both mobs were very close to death, however our whm was already dead. I check the day, Wind day. I check the weather, wind weather. I summon garuda. I type out in party to be arrogant "Don't worry guys, I got this." I activate astral flow and ready aerial blast...

Garuda uses aerial blast.

I used to do random things with a friend (who's long since quit) - level lowbies together, do quests, farm, etc. etc.

This one time, we were levelling our lv 15 jobs together. I forgot which job I was levelling, but he was levelling BLU.

We decided to take the ship from Selbina to Mhaura because he needed to get spells from the Dhamels.

During the trip, I went into the cabin. And started targeting the sea crabs below to see if I could reach them from there.

Unfortunately, I forgot that I had darts equipped for pulling, didn't move fast enough to interrupt the throw and ended up pulling the sea crab.

So for the next five minutes or so, we had to run around in circles around the cabin, exchanging hate with each other and hoping to Altana that we reach the destination before the crab makes a meal out of us. In the end, someone took out the crab for us.

Took about 20 minutes to recover from the hilarity.

I have 2.

First, I was in a static going through CoP in the days after Erecia's guide but before the wiki. We were on our second serious attempt of the airship fight, going over strategy, making sure we had an order for polymers, and that everyone has reraise items, high potions, and i.wings. We're all set, so we go in. Immediately after our pld aggros the first mammets, he says "oh crap, no voke!" I do a party search, and see PLD60/THF25.

Second, my linkshell decided to go after an HNM--at least an HNM by the perspective of level 1 jobs. So we got most of an alliance together on level 1 jobs and went after Bubbly Bernie! I was on BLM. We had a PLD invincible, but after that wore, the melees went down pretty quickly, and Bernie was still at about 40 percent, so I manafonted to keep casting stone 1. When I took hate, I decided to start kiting him around the column until people could reraise up and become unweakened. Eventually we took him down, and it was definitely the most ridiculous thing i've done in a large group.

My funniest moment has to be running to Jeuno for the first time with 2 other friends who I started the game with. We were all under level 20 (can't remember exact levels) and were in a party. We wanted an adventure, so we set out with no sneak/invis. We made it all the way to Battalia, half way across the map, when I hear that "aggro" noise tiger's make. I have no idea exactly who has aggro, so I yell "RUN!". All three of us made a mad dash to the Jeuno zone, but in the process, my other friend also gets aggro. So now, after seeing my 1 friend die, my other friend says to me over Xbox LIVE voice-chat "Help! we can take it!"... Back then I was a noob, and thought all mobs have "party-hate" so, without repying, I quickly disbanded party, and ran till I safely made it to Jeuno, yelling in excitement and too scared to look behind me to see if I was being chased.

Those 2 friends have both quit now, but I'll never forget the "race to jeuno" as we had dubbed it. Even though I did panic and ditch my friends, they were both laughing histarically at how scared I was to stop and help them. Good times... but remembering that kinda makes me sad :(

Probably failing one of my first Ultima's, was tanking it on THF(go figure) and it's kicking us out and interrupts my Utsusemi: Ni cast, 2 seconds later the thing cast Holy V or whichever one he casts and it one shots me... my corpse is teleported out. What really sucks is that was my first death the entire fight.

I was leveling some job in North Gusta, near the guard at the zone to Kon[tab] Highlands and I'd set my HP with him and proceeded to kill everything.

One goblin though proved a little too tough for me and killed me, so I quickly tapped out to my HP, which was in the same zone, I zoned in as it were to have my chat filled up with "you gain 120 XP". I'd killed the goblin with DoT and after HP'ing it had died and given me the XP after all :D

A conversation with a friend. We talked about what we would so if we had our characters powers in real life and he said...

"If I had my blm powers i would cast shock spikes and run around hugging every one I saw."

It still makes me laugh thinking about it.

I won't get into too many of the particulars but it was under the awning up in sky and involved an RMT Mithra and his little band of taru BLM's with a circle of half dead sleeping dolls ... and a drive-by Diaga.

Lotta funny for 12 mp.

At the beginning of our XI experience, my friend and I never partied, we just sort of duo'd all the time, NPC'ing everything at the Dragon's Claws or w/e in Bastok. Time comes to buy some new armor, I'm a hume and he's galka. We're looking over the legwear and I see subligar. "Subligar? what the hell is that? I can't even tell from the graphic... def's not bad though..." So we both buy them and put them on. Hilarity ensued.

The second good time since we never partied(never knew about it), we eventually moved to Dangruf Wadi to duo, pretending we're solid snakes creeping around the corners. "This is a sneaking mission! Peep around that corner!" We were having a great time til we reach about the middle of the map and stuff starts conning higher. All of a sudden we hear the goblin snort and thundering around the corner comes a goblin ******* butcher putting the fear of god in us. Weavers, Fishermen and Thugs haven't got **** on a butcher who's about to slice you in half. We took a good whuppin' that day.
