Can't help but feel slightly disappointed :(Follow

My brother dragged me to the computer today to show me what Blizzard has done for WoW players this year for christmas.

Basicly he was zooming round on Rudolph the red nosed reindeer flying over this big snowy landscape from the new expansion and there were people in santa outfits running round.

I then thought about what I can expect in FFXI and well not a lot shame.

I don't even do the FFXI events because at the end of the day the gear just wastes space. I'm not gonna run out and buy WoW but sometimes it's hard to say lol WoW especially when you realise what a limited game FFXI can be.

Chocobo's can fly so lets make some zones where they can lol, though I feel sorry for the ones carrying Galkas lol

I don't play WoW but I'm curious what their Santa outfit do? From your disappointment I assume theirs is not a waste of space?

usually they have a few items that are actually good from there events in the halloween one that had a lvl 70 pumpkin rings that were actually pretty good along with the lvl 1 pumpkin head that was a waste of space... and a fly headles hoarse men...hoarse mount thing
and now time to be defaulted for talking about WoW...

I play on pc, I don't think I've ever clicked on anything lol. Tab & Function keys ftw. I also own the game on Xbox and use the keyboard over the controller.

To the op: Ya they get some fancy stuff while this year all we get is a lol bell weapon /sigh. On the other hand I enjoyed doing the missions for FFXI. I haven't done anything on WoW that I enjoyed aside from PvP. I haven't played the new wow expansion yet but my WoW friends that work for Blizzard say they've improved a lot as far as storyline goes for wrath. I will look into later when I get bored with the horribly slow released mission content of ffxi.

You would think by now people would realize this fact before they start posting how much better WoW is...

But really, apples and oranges etc.

WoW people get to fly around on a flashy reindeer with a glowing nose, WoW people like flashy stuff. FFXI people get to run around town and the starter zones with their friends, FFXI is about teamwork and group interaction.

I think all Online games like this are about teamwork not just FFXI. All I was saying was how it looked fun is all.

This is a forum and WoW isn't taboo it shouldn't be a case of wait to see this get defaulted I like fancy things like this and it's good to see my Brother having fun on it.

I can quite honestly say I've never done anything in FFXI worth showing to anyone he has somthing to show me every time I come home and it makes me laugh what he gets up to lol.

This thread isn't about which game is better, it's about which has better events.

There's no point really trying to argue it, WoW's special events are typically much better than FFXI's.

FF IX... it probably had the best chocobo system ever. I loved Hot and Cold and finding the chocograph treasures.

WoW events are fun at first, and now with achievements you can get some cool titles if you complete all of tasks. I used to really be in to FF events and I do most of them cause you can just store the items. But this year the bell isn't looking that good - especially compared to the boots last year that gaurantee 5 minute sneak. Still it might make a bell noise when you hit a mob. Hundred Fists go ^^

I agree with this.

I find FFXI events to be somewhat dull and repetitious. I'm just glad that the annoying Summerfest music was gone this year.

No, it wasn't. Maybe you previously switched the bgm file, because Summerfest 2008 definitely had that great music, which I love :P.

To be completely honest, WoW would be pretty impossible to play with a controller.

I hated that I was unable to play the past few times that the buffalo event has happened. I keep on putting off leveling nin because of it ; ;

And arguably one of the more irritating and rewarding optional boss fights if you finished all of the Hot and Cold spots. Ozma was a ***** and a half to beat (Magic Hammer ftw!) and it was a rather enjoyable fight, especially since it gave you the "You beat Ozma?!" dialogue when you fought Hades. FFIX is mah fave non FFXI final fantasy game, and I end up replaying it ever few years or so.

the thing about WoW events is its a bunch of statless junk just like the NQ rewards from ffxi events then ton's of free food that is just a renamed version of food you could already make and a bunch of gear that is just renamed replicas of pre-existing gear which ends up just pissing off people that got the gear the hard way.
reindeer is the same, "reindeer" is just a one time use item that makes your mount a reindeer until you dismount.

ffxi is more of an "omg +1 int!" whereas wow is "omg shiny!" i know when i played WoW a lot of time spent was to get "same exact thing but looks prettier"

It's easy for WoW to have flying reindeer since they already had flying mounts.

But, yes FFXI does have its limitations... For the life of me I could never figure out why you can't jump in FFXI =P

With all its limitations it has the one thing that trumps all other mmos out there... Job system. I love being able to change jobs without having to redo fame, storyline, etc.

For the same reason that you could jump from the roof to roof in the train wreck area (I forget the name) in FF7, yet couldn't simply step over some 6 inch tall rocks blocking your way.

Also the same reason why we have full range of motions (jumping over stuff, etc) in cutscenes, and not most of the game.

Its a mix of FFXI physics and the law of the universe that is "Cutscenes will always look better than the game itself"

Though with the way games are looking nowadays, that law might not apply soon enough.
