Leveling Sub Jobs and Level SyncFollow

This may sound like a stupid question, but if I want to level a subjob that I baiscally have no interest in making a main job and don't care about skill levels, would it be a good idea to just level it to 37 in the dunes?

Btw I haven't left my home country yet, and I also want to have this job leveled so I can get to other areas easier, and to unlock the other jobs. I just don't like any of the starter jobs so far, and I wanted to try the other jobs.

Just wondering if this is a good idea or not.

Don't know if I could say it's really a good idea...
But it works, and if you want to, you can. 27 levels of Crabs Pugs and Gobs though...

It's near impossible to do this with the starting three melee and Blm, but it might be possible with Rdm and Whm. Whm for sure, but Rdm may be wanted for enfeebling, and then you're screwed.

Can do it. Probably shouldn't, but it's up to you.

To be honest, they all kind of suck at that level anyways. For that matter, the dunes also kind of sucks. Out of curiousity, are you just trying to avoid buying new gear, or...?

Well yeah that's part of it >.> but I'm gonna have to buy that equiqment anyways, besides the weapons, which is what I want to save money on. I'm trying to do this with WAR and use it as a sub for DRK and I figured I'll need as much gil as I can get. And I figured I'd be able to get parties easier in the dunes than other places, so I don't really mind what I'm fighting, I just want to get it high enough to use as a sub and get DRK.

I was also thinking I'd be able to solo in the dunes as I'm lfg when I get to a high enough level, and maybe that would help with skill ups if I would ever need them.

Why anyone would WANT to spend 17 extra levels in the dunes is beyound me, thats honestly one of the craziest things ive ever heard.

Of course, the first few times through the dunes scarred me and now i just solo through those levels lol.

Leveling to 37 in the dunes is bad. in fact, dunes are bad. no dunes.

You can easily solo to 20 on WAR or MNK by doing Fields of Valor and making good use of exp rings. Once you hit Qufim, leveling gets easier. As for the level sync thing, it's true that you don't really need to care about your weapon skill too much. I'd suggest WAR because you have increased defense between traits/armor and it makes you more in demand for tanking your way to 37.

Yeah, I'd at least do 20+ parties, when people start having access to gear that actually improves their job functions and the party can work as a cohesive whole (as opposed to 3 people that just happen to be hacking at the same monster with 3 people cure bombing them.)

I just did 27-30 SCH in Qufim, was happy as a clam.

I got tired of XP PT's, so I'm currently in the process of soloing all my subjobs to 37.

Some of it's 2-boxing, and I have BST leveled, which makes things easier... but I've noticed you don't actually NEED /bst to solo anymore. (Depending on which job you're leveling)

It's a lot of fun, and a lot easier nowadays^^

If it's money you're worried about, it's slower than normal xp pt's, but not really slower than silly Dunes PT's, AND you can make money off it (Concentrate on XPing off farmable mobs when you can.) Soloing isn't for everybody, but keep it in mind as a possibility.

The biggest flaw in your theory is that you think you'll never have any interest in those jobs. The best (and worst) part of FFXI is that you can level pretty much any job you want, and every job has something interesting about them. Way back when most everyone agreed that Warrior was just a subjob, and now pretty much it's the gold standard.

Moral: NEVER level a job as "just a subjob." Just because you're leveling a subjob doesn't mean the other five people in your party are as well. Take it seriously.

I would actually not recommend partying in Qufim right now. It is extremely popular for FoV. I just got done soloing from about 28-34 there, and it was relatively hard to find mobs because the gigas and pugs and crabs are all on FoV, I think a full party would have some problems. I'd just solo through there, honestly.

I'm pretty sure you would feel the effects if you opted to 'just SJ Ninja' and had your Ninjitsu like 50 levels below cap.

Also, even if you do XP your job to 37 in the p00ns, you still would need the Scrolls and such related to said Job, unless you want a worthless sub.

It's a standard rule, that coming to a game community and asking if you should take the gimp way out, instead of learning how to play said job, is always a poor decision.

If you were XP'ing your SJ and not running all +1 gear, that's acceptable IMO (no need to be an elitist), but not even trying to gear up or play your role = fail. Not to mention, how often do you see a Skill Up Party, looking for jobs 37-40? :p

Skill ups, these are worthwhile to your Job OR Subjob.

Edit: Engrish Police, damn morning.
