Thanks for the information!

I really don't see why anyone would be upset about this information being posted... Thanks to those of you who have been encouraging and have been making meaningful posts. I know I have read something about PVP on FFXI. Does this PVP actually hold water? Whats it like? (I only ask because thats a selling point for convincing my friend to try FFXI).

Thanks,
Twadd

it doesn't seem like u pay for premium account bananachaoss, so why u all upset about it? u're getting the service of a public forum for free as most other ppl. Twadd is not spamming or anything. and i think most others here, even the ones who pay for premium, welcomes this little breath of fresh air. i know for myself, one who didn't pay for premium, sure won't complaint if there are none spam threads coming up in the General Forum. so why are u so upset? here, have a seat, tell us, what's been bothering u lately? ^_^

Twadd, just make sure ad blocker and what not is up and best if u're using FireFox and it's add ons if u want to go to those sites. FFXIAH i really don't think u need to go any time soon. FFXI Atlas on the other hand can be helpful, even if at lower levels.

and yes, soloing to 15 or so in Canyon would be a good idea. and then head to the maze like i said before to do more soloing if u want. once u get it down, soloing worms is one of the easiest way for a BLM or RNG to get xp.

the in game conquest map is a pretty good idea of general region information and what not, but u'll still need to get to know the maps of each zone a little better. don't worry thou, as u play more and explore more, u'll know them like the back of ur hand.

take ur time and have fun, this is a game, not a race. try to get the most out of it ^^

Hey Twadd,
It is very interresting to read the posts of your adventures, having said that i think its time for a quick word or 2 on the spell "bind". As you have already noticed bind isnt sticking a mob for long there may be 2 reasons for this, either 1 your enfeebling skill isnt high enough, or 2 once you bind an enemy and do some serious damage to it, (for a blm this usually means 1 nuke of current tier nukes relative to your level) it becomes unbound. My second statement is more true and noticable on mobs which check higher than easy prey.

If you haven`t already then may i suggest you take a little time to visit the job forums Black mage, read the stickies here they will help you a lot.

I hope your next days adventures bring you as much joy.

Also, if no one's mentioned it, make sure you get MND and INT Rings for level 14. If you learn to macro swap these in for your spells, they will increase their effectiveness. Go to each of the WHM and BLM forums and read the stickies to learn what stats affect each kind of spell. I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but I can't remember these off the top of my head anymore. ^^

Actually, there are Mnd and Int rings that are equipable at level 10 which are superior to the level 14 rings. Eremite's and Saintly's (+2 for the normal quality, +3 for the more expensive high quality [+1's]). These are probably the best rings for most mages for a long time.

Just wanted to add in that I'm enjoying Twadd's life story in game also. And I hope that he continues.

It's so easy to forget the things that gave us trouble when we started, and we know so many small things that the new player does not, (or even soes not know they don't know!) that his posts have been refreshing in they they highlight such issues. (Like the hill in E. Saruba, that the map fails to show)

Please keep up the tales of your progress. They cheer me a lot.

Don't be so miserable bananaman.
Each post is titled a newbs life. You know what it is before you open it. If you don't wanna read it, don't.
Personally, I enjoy it if I'm in the mood. If it bores me I just select another post.

Don't forget, joining a Linkshell is a great thing to do. I think Alla has a list of some:

I hope that eventually people find me so incredibly awesome that I get invited to a Link Shell :). And since that isn't likely to happen for a long time we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

No one responded to my question about PVP, is there such a thing?

Thanks,
Twadd

PVP isnt as popular as it used to be. You have to do a quest to get a liscense to participate, since its required by law and dictacted by rules etc. Theres still some people that'll do it, but you prolly won't see full matches at the lower levels to play.

Theres also a way to reserve a private arena that you can invite people to PvP in. You can set the level cap and job/subjob restrictions. I'm not sure if you have to pay though, as I've only been invited to it.

And don't worry too much about linkshells, someone will help you out with one and you'll never forget the first. ^^

I'm sure HeavenisticChaos would welcome you. If you're interested, let me know and I can talk to the LS. Some of the members post here on Alla as well, so maybe they'll read this. ;)

A rough rule of thumb on skill levels is @3 times your level till 50 (i think) then it goes to @5 times your level. Of course depending on your rating (A+ to horrid) for that skill it may be higher or lower, but this can give you a good estimate to see if you're way below cap or close to capping.

I also have enjoyed reading your posts and the nostalgia of when I first started playing...I wish you even more enjoyment as you discover everything for the first time ^^.

I can't rememeber, but does bind wear when the mob gets damaged? I know that's how my shadowbind works, but my blm is only 20. I think bind wears off when the enemy takes damage, unless your level is sufficiently higher than it.

Ranger/monk has to be the most unusual tank I've ever heard of.

Yeah but totally do your supply quests. They're not so much "quests" as they are delivery runs, but they will be your best friend for quite a while. At least until you get your Airship pass, which should take a while.

Honestly, is the topic getting in the way of your lurking? He's made 6 like this, how are you going to come in to this thread not knowing what to expect? Just read a different topic. I enjoy the nostalgia.

Seeing 2-3 links for FFXI atlas and a link to Sompeage here...

I think with the recent account hacks your better off keeping the links to Alla content.

Zenoxio, yes I would be interested thanks! :)

I do not believe bind wears off on taking of damage. It wears off when your rank is 12 and should be 36. :(.

Bind wears off when the subject takes physical damage not magic damage.

Correction, there is a chance of wearing off from any damage (even magical). I can attest to this as an rdm and you can check the rdm forum if you don't believe me.

Just a suggestion. You may want to consider in the future having a compilation of all your experiences/days. It might give new players a much different perspective on how FFXI works/plays level by level, vs. the usual guides and tips that already exist in other threads (not to say they are bad, a lot are very good).

Enjoy your experience in game!

You'd be more than welcome in HC.

Just ask me, Angelusdemonus, or any sackholder you see running around for a pearl. Our LS color is light blue. If you're not sure about who to ask for a pearl, please check our HeavenisticChaos Wiki page for a list of the characters in-game that would be able to give you a pearl.

Hope to hear from you soon. ^^

Edit: Some spelling. -.-;

Banana, its simple. If you don't like Twadd's posts, and I'm going to say this slowly and loudly so even you can understand it and I'll use short words. DO NOT CLICK ON THEM. Forums are designed to discuss the game and this is the "General FFXI forum" so what Twadd is posting is perfectly acceptable.

Most of us enjoy reading his adventures. When you started this game 3-4 years ago, you forget what it was like to do something for the first time. I like reading his stories and helping with his questions. Heck, I'm a casual player. Sometimes, he asks something I don't know so I learn something too.

The game is about fun so the forums should be too. I'd much rather see threads about Twadd's adventures and his questions than umpteen posts of people ranting about the terrible party they were in or OH NO. RMT are fishing again or, and this we see every single time there's a maintenance, SE ALWAYS schedules these on my day off or when a certain monster is due to pop during the US prime time or on a holiday in some country or another.

Point is, Twadd, I hipe you'll continue to post your adventures here. The majority of us enjoy them.
