I'd set it up so that after 10 failed tries at registration, you get a message saying that all your content ID's would be suspended for 7 days if you try to register again before waiting 30 minutes.

That'll weed out those idiots who lack self control and patience very quickly.

If I were SE, I would have set up a f---ing Queue system that lets 50 people on the Registration Server at any given time, that way 50 people get their reg codes done, guaranteed, and make way for the next 50.

It would take an hour, maybe two, and then everyone would be Happy.

Yes, SE should punish the players for their own mess up. </sarcasm>

Pretty much yes, SE's system is flawed - but hammering the retry button just ruins it for everybody. If everyone tried hitting it once every 10 minutes, I bet we'd all be registered by now.

SE screwed up, but that doesn't mean that the players have zero liability.

Wow, and you wonder why you got sub-defaulted?

So glad you're not SE - you'd just add to the fail.

Don't you know? To this community the players do no wrong.

It's ALL SE.

SE is the evil.

The players are the wise and righteous ones.

The Players only do the right thing. The players are always right. The players are never wrong. The players are never at fault.

He's got a point.

The people hammering Retry every 10 seconds for 6 hours straight aren't helping anything. They are just making the problem worse.

I'm sorry, but there is no way that you can blaim the userbase for the troubles with registration.

In this specific case, the blame lies entirely on SE's part.

EDIT: Adding to that.

Why should the people spamming Retry for 6 hours have to go do something else while some other random guy gets to Register on his first try?

There is too a way, it's the people who spam it that are clogging the servers even further.

Because spamming Retry is the only way that works for most people?

I've been trying to register for 2 days now. Not spammng Retry obviously didn't work for me.

I keep saying there probably already WAS a queue system in place, but no one believes me. That's how file transfer protocols work. Maybe 100 or so people are the lucky winners at any given time, and when they're done, another person takes their place.

That works because you EVENTUALLY get in.

Yet while you don't get in after the first few tries, you're making it worst by flooding the servers trying to get in instead of waiting for the issue to be fixed.

If that were the case, then we would have been done ages ago.

If it takes an average person 5 minutes to do the Registration, then every 5 minutes, let's say the Queue is set at 50. In One Hour, you are talking 600 people Registering in 1 hour. Now, this went on for 10+ hours yesterday. That is what I last checked it at like 7PM EST. The servers went down at 5AM EST, so that's Another 10 hours. They went back up at 8AM EST, so add another hour onto that. That's 21 hours, at least.

Are there really 126,000+ NA PC users in FFXI?

From what I heard, they boast ~500k users. Everyone around here likes to think that the JP PS2 population is by far the largest of the bunch (or at least that's what all of those 'we can't dump the PS2!!!!' people like to say).

I am finding this hard to swallow.

Not really a fair system for those of us who have been trying for over two days now while some guy just strolls up and hits register and gets through on their first try, while I haven't even seen the screen that asks you to input your numbers yet.

Call me a part of the problem, but that retry button is there so that I can RETRY. Other people getting in and being able to register just shows me that I'm not hitting that damned button enough.

Yes, spamming Retry means that I EVENTUALLY get in.

Not spamming Retry has meant that I NEVER get in.

So you spam for 3 days straight and eventually get in.

Or you go do something else for 3 days and get in cause the damn server was no longer being spammed to death.

Either way, you got in at the same time... which one involved you sitting in front of your computer pounding the button every 10 seconds? Which involved you going elsewhere, and doing something fun?

Actually that really sounds about right. JP PS2 players are the majority of the userbase, but that means 200/500K or so max of the international players. Another 100K PS2 around the world, another 100K on Xbox around the world, another 100K on PC around the world. All PC players are presently spamming or trying to spam the reg server. NA PC users are the second largest group of the aforementioned bunch (I pulled those numbers out of my *** btw. Pretty sure that there's better numbers on the Vanadiel Census.)

That's only in hindsight.

Go say that to the people who hit retry 10-20 times and actually got in. I'm sure that instead of enjoying their new content, they'd much rather have just given up after the first attempt and waited a few days.

Yea. Of course.

What, it takes you three days to figure out what you're doing is pretty futile? Takes me about an hour.

Even if we spam the retry button for days on end (up to 10+ hours for me) there are a few that get in after 5-10 minutes. Thats the part that pisses me off. Why is it that alot of people go 5, 10, or even 20 hours spamming the system without getting away from that annoying red screen while some one else gets lucky and sweaks through?

It's called perseverance, seeing this to the bitter end. So long as there are people who are getting in, that means there's a chance one of them could be me.

It's really frustrating that after days of trying to register, I've seen all of my friends come and go, who are now enjoying their content. I'll be here to the end (well, at least for a couple more hours until the play time that I've reserved for this vacation is over) trying and hoping that maybe I'll at least get ten minutes of new content.
