When I have been in parties I notice that some players use "pineapple juice", "rolanberry pie", etc. What protection do foodstuffs offer, and what would be most convenient for my fave, a monk?
No McDonald's in Windurst, but I'm hoping for Starbucks....

The condensed version, if you didn't click the link, is that food has different effects, but basically the benefits are things like:

- increased base stats
- increased accuracy/evasion/attack/defense
- increased hp/mp
- increased hp or mp recovered while healing
- (drinks) mp or hp regen
- other effects

For low level melee, try rice dumplings (but idk what level you are >.>). The effects are listed on the page that Lefian posted if you consider using them ^^

Dumplings are really great food. It's what I use for my melee jobs. But if this is his first job dumplings can be pricey. I know 10k doesn't sound like alot to established players, but when it's your first job it sounds like a small fortune. There is some good cheap foods he can look into also, such as Meat Jerky. It may not be the best, but it is affordable to someone just starting out.
