I've started this game twice now. Both times, I started as a Monk, and was sure it was the job for me. Just... loved it, and took a lot of pride in doing my best at it. The first time around, I didn't get very far, I think level 20 with WAR and MNK, and a few below 10. Then I left for WoW for a bit, and it was thinking "Man I miss being a Monk" that tipped the scales in favor of coming back.

That was a while ago. I don't know how long because I don't really pay much attention to dates. But I started up my Hume Monk, same face and all, and went at it. Got my subjob and took Warrior up to 20 again, and I enjoyed tanking just as much as DD. But then I decided to try out Thief, since I wanted TH anyway. And that was fun. I couldn't really decide which of the three to take through Qufim first, so I started leveling RDM. And BLM. And WHM.

Currently, I've got BRD at 47, WHM at 37, and seven other jobs from 20-22, plus BST at 18. And I'm getting ready to take NIN up from 13. I haven't played Monk in ages. It's not that I don't miss it. I've just found something I love about every other job ever, so I keep getting distracted. And now they're adding three more; I'm doomed. Smiley: laugh

We're getting lots of newer players around here these days, and several of them talk about what race/job they want to be, what would make a good starting job for the advanced job they're aiming for, etc. I'm wondering how many people started out with a clear idea of what they wanted their character to be. Did you stick with it?

Before I started, I bought the Brady Guide (first edition) and really looked through it to see what I wanted to be. Red Mage seemed to be the most fitting. I could melee and cast black/white magic. It was the best of all worlds, so that was the first job I picked and I stuck with it to 75.

So yes, I stuck with it.

Same here. Although at first I was really wanting to be a Dragoon... based on their total *** kicking factor from FFT lol.

My first character I started as a THF. That was possibly the worst idea ever. I did that becasue I wanted to be a THF/NIN. Once I got to 30 my love of dragons won out over being thiefy though. (Yes, I meant dragons, not dragoons.) I decided that I needed to be a DRG so that I could have a pet dragon. I became a DRG/THF long before it was popular and took a ton of flack for not subbing WAR.

I quit for a year due to RL issues.

I came back and made a new character on a new server. (The other character still exists, I just don't play it.) I started as a BLM. I want to be a career BLM. Then they start talking about expansions and new jobs. I just know that I'm going to try out the new jobs. I'm beginning to wonder if my BLM might not become one of them...

I was a BST before the game was released in NA. I bought the Brady Guide, saw BST, and knew that's what I wanted. I took WAR up to 30 with a level 10 MNK subjob, and went off as BST.

75BST today, and after a long time, finally starting to level another job. But I still consider BST my main, and do as much as I can on it.

I started out as a Monk too ^^ As you can see from my sig, no I didn't stick with it and I miss it dearly. There's no better job for pure a** kicking. I love my SAM, but it wasn't what I wanted to be when I started the game at all.

After I got Monk to 22, I leveled Thief (I have no idea why because I don't think I even knew about TH at the time). When I got Thief to 30, I really wanted to be a Ninja. But my boyfriend (who I static with) wanted to be a Ninja as well, so I stepped aside and took up Samurai.

I still have my Monk gear on my mule. I'm waiting for the day when I can take it up again.

I was going to go Hume Red Mage.

I've ended up as Mithra, flip-floping between Thief, Warrior, Red Mage, Bard, Summoner, and White Mage... and I've found Monk, Black Mage, and Beastmaster to be fun, too... and the Samurai AF is calling to me ;_; And when the new expansion comes out, I'm looking forward to Puppetmaster.

So, stick with something? Hell, no! I even ended up making a second Mithra because I couldn't settle on just one character model -.-

I started out as WHM. I took that to 56 for Raise 2 when I realized that there isn't really much more for the job after that level aside from like, Cure 5. Back then, Raise 3 was expensive, and after learning about how much more of a difference it made over Raise 2 (a piddly 360 EXP with 2400 capped EXP loss), I decided, ***** that. I retired the job and made it my teleport/R2 *****. I have since gotten it to 58WHM so that it could sub /29BLM and use Escape, so now it's like a master of transportation.

Took up RDM after that, and it became my main. 75RDM today.

There's many jobs I'm trying to take to 37 (BLM, NIN, and BRD being a few I've done so far, DRK and WAR being next) but that's for RDM subbing purposes.

in a word... no.

everyone in my LS knows me as the guy who changes my main job weekly, if not daily ;)

i've restarted characters 4 times since NA PC launch, from galka to elvaan to hume and finally hume again.

my highest job is 46 samurai now, and i've not exped on it in at least two weeks (i'm only elitist when it comes to my own gear, and stopped largely to get the nice gear available in the 40s like snipers, jujitsu gi, o.kote, valk mask, etc. etc...).

currently i'm levelling bst and having a blast, @1000 to 29 there. jobs over 25 that i have are sam46, blm44, war37, thf31, brd29, bst28, pld25, whm25. a few level 18s, and poor poor drk as my only level 1 job and job under 10 x.x

my current plan is to take bst to 50 and farm along the way to be able to afford all that pricey melee gear, but who knows if i'll be on this path for that long =)

samurai is still the first job i want to take to 75, but i'm far from in a hurry to get there.

Yes. Level 75 Thief for 9 months. Thief main for 2 1/2 years.
Closing in on 700,000 exp just as a level 75 Thief.
All other jobs designed only to support Thief. I love Thief.

I was convinced I wanted to be a BLM. I leveled WHM as a sub and loved it because there was always something for me to do besides spam the highest tier nuke I had. Took WHM up before I officially quit. Now I'm back, and once again I'm a WHM. So no, I didn't stick with my original job.

Originally, I wanted to be a Red Mage, like... to do exactly what they did in previous FFs (a little bit of everything). My main character started out as a MNK though, and I've taken that to 41 so far. I've tried just about every other job though..

I wanted to be a RDM from way before this game was released in NA. My friends talked me out of it saying RDM sucked. Lol.

So I became one of the gazillion WARs that swarmed the Dunes. Then I went DRG when I hit 30.

I came to the verge of quitting sometime in my mid 30s when the LFG got unbearable, but I bit the bullet and continued. This was possible soley because I was unemployed at the time and could LFG for 10 hours straight without batting an eye.

Sometime in the low 40s I got a static party that took me to 65 before we disbanded.

No way in hell I would go back LFG in the PuG pool as a DRG, or any melee DD for that matter. I was no longer unemployed by this time. Note that this was still before the TP nerf when DRG had a great reputation.

So I took up RDM. Went from 1-65 (including subs to 37) in about half the number of days it took me to get from 1-40 DRG (and only playing 2-3 hours every other day or so at that, instead of the regular 8-10+ hours/day during the DRG PuG days).

Then I quit for WoW.

Came back on a new char, leveled WAR 1-70 in a static with friends.

I've semi-quit again. I only play when my static is ready these days.

I was the only one of my friends who originally chose a particular job and stuck with it. Sure I've leveled a few others and of course my sub job. But After 2 years going on 3, I'm the only one out of the group who has a job almost endgame level.

Thief FTW.

Before I even bought the game I saw a preview of it in a magazine. Looked through the jobs, MONK! I will be a monk. Looked through the races, GALKA! I will be a galka. I knew I wanted to be a galka monk before I ever started.

Fastforward to today... 75 Galka Monk for almost a year. No other jobs past 37. :)

I stuck with it. ^^

I started off with Samurai or Monk in mind. I wanted to be a cool elvaan, strong (and nice abs! *flex*). Got MNK to 30, war in the 20s. Started questiong all of the advanced jobs slowly.

However. My first time in jeuno, i'll never forget. All the guards in such shiney armor! 'Whoa! Knights!!' I said. My friend informed me that you can actually wear that armor in the game, and I was immediately hooked. =) I had to look as sexy as that. No ifs ands or butts.

As me and my friend quested all of the jobs, I started leveling paladin up to lvl 10 inbetween. I even skipped the night they went to finish the SAM quest, 'cause I wanted to get pld to 10 for dunes.

Year and a half later, I'm 67 pld and with the news of SE's desperate plans to make PLD on par with NiN again, I'm more excited than ever to be the shine that blinds you all on a sunny day. ^^ My SAM is 24 now, and every now and then I envy my friend that i started out with, doing sick trick dmg on everything for light and dark SCs. However, I fell in love with monk somewhere along the line...and its 53 now. That's definitely going to be my next job under PLD.

The only true thing that we 'stick with it' is how we see ourselves. The race, body size, and face that you see your in-game self image as being. Don't chose your race by what will match your favorite job, but one that will match what you want the self image to be. An under-estimated, but calm and cute taru? A fiesty mithra with an attitude for destruction? A wise and steady Galka? These are the reasons we pick our characters. Stick with it. =)

Originally, I wanted to play a Ranger, but I had just come from playing a Combat Medic in Star Wars Galaxies, so I went with the White Mage role. It was something I was comfortable with.

I got dissuaded from playing ranger when a friend told me they throw gil at monsters, similar to coin toss in older games, or using Yojimbo in FF X. This turned me off of it, so I kept with White Mage.

Then I saw that I had a lot of bad tanks. A whole lot of bad tanks. And I also realised I had all the low level spells already for Paladin. So I decided to be a great tank instead and have never looked back. The only time my level 36 White Mage gets any use now is when a friend is desperate for a Teleport... Smiley: lol

When I started, I wanted to be a Dragoon. I had seen the AF that looked like Kain's armor and even gave my character blonde hair.

In the process of getting to 30, since this was my first MMO, I had asked many questions and found many people very helpful and willing to teach, or just helping my out in a tough battle.

I started to think "Man... all these people have really helped me out, I'd like to "repay" this to others.".

Thus another pld was born.

You should level that WHM up to 37 (if not 42 for all teleports) since it sounds like SE is wanting us to not always use the same sub... so maybe PLD is going to be benefiting a lot from WHM sub here soon. Smiley: lol

(Semi) Joking aside, for the topic at hand I orriginally wanted to be a SMN... but was put off by the needing one job at 70+ to get all the avatars. I decided to start off as WHM since that was the sub for SMN and take it to at least 30 to unlock the adv jobs. Come about 20 I decided to stick with WHM because I simply loved it and actually was told I was "the best WHM" he had ever partied with. Learned later that day that he had a level 70 job also, not just the 20ish.

Ever since then i've stuck with WHM and haven't regreted it.

Even before I started I knew I wanted to be a Pld, so when I started I took War to 18 then switched to Mnk for a sub and I brought Mnk up to 20 and went back to War till 37 so I didn't need to lvl it anymore. then I did my Pld quest brought it up to about 63 till I decided to try out a few other jobs

I started by unlocking nin and lvlin that to 20 for War/Nin prommies. Then Thf to 15 for Sneak Attack and TH (Farming) and then I decided I'ma go back to Mnk for a bit brought it pretty much to 38 and at the same time been lvl Thf and lately Smn.

I totally didn't leave Paladin but took time off of Bibiki Bay lvlin (I hate Bibiki) but so far Pld is now 67 17k to 68 so still going really well so I feel I didn't stray too far off the path from when I started

That's my nice long post :D
