I smell buffer overflow. Someone sending more to the viewer from the server than it could handle. Gald I'm back in now :)

POL always seems to acted up after an update.
Fixed, seems to be working fine now. I hope whoever screwed up is in somesort of trouble xD
I bet this is a problem with connecting and retrieving account information as it synchronizes with our client. I bet if they wanted to, this problem could have been fixed along with the stupid timing out of downloading the patch long time ago. This is obviously a server side issue.
I would be so PO'd if account data is screwed up and they have to refresh the entire server farm just for Windows clients....

I'm back in. The Christmas PoL viewer is gorgeous.

Yea, I had the same problem happen right after the electric kicked off and I tried logging back on. As for the file corruptions i'm not sure if this will work but theroetically this repairs Windows. Set your mobo to boot on your cd drive and have your windows xp home/pro inside of it. Then you'll be prompted with these options Repartion/System Restore/Cancel choose system restore and it should get windows back into working order.
mobo- Motherboard settings in the bios.
If you have no idea how to complete this procedure I would advise you take it someone nearby who works on computers.
Theres also a nifty forum to goto about computer problems.

GM friend just rang me. Who wants to know whats going on? Ill tell you.
The servers were hit by a hacker last night and the security of everyone is now compromised so they shut down the log in server out of panic. They are now updating the issues reported from the new Update (awesome update by the way). Do not reinstall, do not panic, go buy a blow up doll and while away the hours with **** and baby oil.
Also stop spammin PoL, its really REALLY slowing them down.

I can confirm this. Running further tests, I have detected 4 viruses on mine and my wife's PC. My friend/roommate is also running tests now that he's woken up. I have also called several FFXI friends throughout the US and they have found the same 4 viruses. If Norton's and/or McAfee doesn't detect and fix this, go to www.grisoft.com and download AVG 7.0 . It is a free Anti-virus software package.
These viruses do access the .dll file lists. Also, the hypothesis of a rootkit program I am now investigating.

That makes absolutely no sense. First of all, GM's are customer service agents, that is all. They are not part of the IT or Programming sectors. Secondly, several people were able to log on, just some people were not.
Lastly, common issues with computers amongst the general population as far as spyware and a virus or even 4 of them are concerned...chances are really good that there are another 50 thousand people who have the same 4 virus that you have that never touched FFXI.
Really, the problem is fixed. There is not a conspiracy, no one is attempting to harm you while you play a benign game. Go camp an NM or something calming for a bit.
