I'm looking for Beta Testers to test to the ground specific sections of Vana'Guide during development. I need to find all bugs, and with all the programming I'm doing on the front end aswell as the back end, I'm not getting much chance to test my code.

If you're interested, please drop me a PM on the forums, and I'll talk to you about it in detail there. Thanks.

How much does it pay? Profit sharing or anything like that?
Looks pretty nice though. I guess I'd want more details before committing to a project like this.

Will this product be for sale or be free? Are you working with SE in any way so you don't violate copyright laws if you do 'sell' the guide.
How much time would you want a tester to spend on it a day?
Anyway, just wondering the silly questions and all.

On your first pic in the description of the mob it says "It's advised not EXPing on these mobs..." where it should say "It's advised not to EXP on these mobs..." You can't advise someone on not doing something and refer to that something in the present tense. It should be future tense and thus the "to EXP."

edit: spelling, oh the irony.

This looks amazing! Quick question though - is it legal? If it is then I'd be interested in helping with the test (out of the goodness of my heart.. honest, I swear I don't want it for my own benefit), but if it's not then I'll just have to walk away. Looks bloody awesome though.

Since it looks like you need a windower to use it, this is in that grey area of the TOS. While the program itself might not violate it, the means to use it do. So just beware, SE is weird about this stuff. But like most people say, just dont go blabing about it.

This program is not against the ToS in any way, shape or form. This program is certainly NOT illegal. It doesn't write any information to the game and doesn't change it's settings in any respect. This is not a hacking tool & can't be used to hack.

It's basically a compact version of Allakhazam and Somepage Databases.

I can reveal that Square Enix are writing in a Window function to FFXI so it will become generic and Windowing FFXI will no longer require a 3rd party tool in the coming months.

Vana'Guide & Azarils windower will not get you banned. Bots & Hacking tools will.

As for Beta Testing, no more than an hour per section to weed out all the bugs (my coding is pretty clean.. not to sound big headed, but it is!)

Thanks.

if its right or wrong or whatsnot is a story for another day, but if they find out you use that (and yeah, you'd almost have to directly tell them you are or just about), they would suspend you. I know more than one person who did, and every so often people pop up here or on other forums that got suspended for it... That thing is reading memory adress to know what you're targeting, no? That tends to be enough to puts you in trouble if you talk about it in game.

That is one cool toy though, if there was a version where you can type out what you wanna look up and such, so that it would work on another computer or while offline, I'd love something like that ^_^

You can manually type targets too. It's an optional plugin to use the automatic updater. Granted that does read from RAM, but it doesn't write to it (nothing against ToS)

Last time I checked, when I play, I don't see other peoples TP or the mobs Health %. I'm sure that's legal, though. :D

If it changes the game, it's a f ucking hack. Am I wrong to assume that? There is no grey area with this, imho.

Well technically I wouldn't think it violates any rules, unless it's pulling information out of the data files on the computer. If it's just a tool to access information on the internet and runs seperately from the game, there's nothing wrong with it. If people chose to use windower so they can play and use the tool at the same time, that's their perogative. No different than using windower and having a web browser open at the same time. From the looks of it, you could just as easily use this tool on a laptop while playing on your PS2.

Didn't notice on the first image it displayed character information. So I guess it is accessing information from the game. So maybe it does violate ToS, but pretty damn cool tool though.

I Love this idea. It would be great for us crafters. Not having to connect to Allakhazam or Somepage everytime you have a recipe you don't know the ingredients for. I just hope it also has listed where the NPCs are that you can buy thouse ingredients from. ^^

Does this require a windower or FFXI to run? Is there a stand-alone version? I play on PS2, soon Xbox, and usually have my laptop running various websites along side it. This looks nicer.

If it is, or can be, a stand-alone program, how about a Mac version? ^_^;;

I don't understand how you can say this is a legal addition to the game when the EULA specifically states that you cannot modify any of the game functionallity; using a windower does just that. Also to say that no one gets banned for using a windower is just outright wrong. People HAVE been banned for 72 hours for using the windower - SE may not be able to automatically detect it but if you're foolish enough to announce to people and subsequently GM's that you're using a 3rd party tool, you WILL get banned. I'm sure that the case would still apply with this tool as well as the windower.

Now that being said, this is the coolest thing since the windower, just wish you would grammar check your database. :)

In reality though, Banned & Suspended are completely different things. If SE continue from now to Suspend people for using a Windower, they would be hypocritical seeing as they're writing in this functionality themselves in coming versions.

The Windower might modify the game - but Vana'Guide certainly doesn't modify it in any way shape or form, nor does it give you anything that isn't accessible on common database websites ^.^

Thanks

Hey Conno,

Under the mob section under shot.jpg is it possible you could list the potential drops of each mob? I think that would be handy to use. You'll often hear people in LS chat say "Hey, what do [insert mob here] drop?"

Thanks. And keep up the good work.

Notice the tab named "Farming." I can only assume that tab has the info you requested, Norelco, but I would think my guess is as good as any.

This program looks fawking shweet. Once the beta testing is done I'm DLing it. Too good to pass up.

[hears angels singing] HALLELUIAH! HALLELUIAH!

And SE is making a windower for FFXI now? XD Even shweeter.
