but Vana'Guide certainly doesn't modify it in any way shape or form, nor does it give you anything that isn't accessible on common database websites ^.^

In the first shot, you can see that the mob in question has 4% health left on the Vana'Guide. How does it view this information, when SE has stated it doesn't really want us using plug-ins?

Bear in mind, I am not a naysayer here to flame or anything, and while it does seem it is not "altering" the information, it is providing some information we shouldn't exactly know about a mob, albeit a small thing. If SE wanted us to know the exact percentage of a mob's life were left, they would have already added that in the game. So while the rest of the information provided is indeed simply information you could get off the net, getting the mobs remaining health percentage is not, and I am curious how that doesn't violate the ToS.

And, as several people have mentioned, you can and will get suspended (which means you could indeed get banned) for using the Windower, though you pretty much have to say in /linkshell /party /say or whatever you use it and someone calls a GM on you for it.

If it is true SE is planning to run a Windowed version, that is good news indeed, and will make many FFXI players very happy.

Your program looks pretty nice and I would love to use something like that. However I must disagree with one thing you mentioned...

Quote:
If SE continue from now to Suspend people for using a Windower, they would be hypocritical seeing as they're writing in this functionality themselves in coming versions.

This isn't exactly true. Here's an example: SE is going to release an item that will increase the amount of exp gained from monsters under certain conditions. Is it ok for people to make thier own version since SE is already planning on introducing it? Other than that, keep up your very professional looking work.

Last time I checked, when I play, I don't see other peoples TP or the mobs Health %. I'm sure that's legal, though. :D

If it changes the game, it's a f ucking hack. Am I wrong to assume that? There is no grey area with this, imho.

There is a grey area in this incredibly. Let me describe it this way. It's illegal to use a radar scanner, but it's legal to own and to buy one. It depends what you do with it. The legit players will only use the windower to access information without logging off. Then there are others that will hack the game with the windower. There's a good side and a bad side to the windower, what you do if you own one is your business.

Is it technically a hack? Yes, because it makes the game that normally runs fullscreen and routes it to a window.
Is it really a hack? ***** no.

That's completely non-related lol. That would change gameplay and be unfair. Running in a Window allows you the surf the web and chat on a messenger while you play. Running in a window does not give you an unfair advantage.

As for Mob HP being an issue; you could easily work it out yourself to a rough percentage. Plus, you only see the %age if it's targeted. Hence, you're not getting the info if it isn't already available

(P.S. It's not Vana'Guide that writes the percentage onto the game, nor does Vana'Guide show TP, that's a Plugin from Azarils windower)

With regards to this screenshot: http://www.vanaguide.com/B1.jpg

Your HQ tiers are wrong. Taking that item (potion - 40cap) as an example your HQT should be as follows:

HQT1: 51
HQT2: 71
HQT3: 91

As you can see Tier 1 is 11 levels over the cap. Then there is 31 and 51 which you did have.

I was under the impression, the two tiers for increased HQ were 31 levels and 51 levels over cap. I wasn't aware that there were three (Ironic really). I'll add +11, +31 and +51, though.

With included +11 HQT1

Yes, the 3 tiers is common knowledge amongst crafters. Tier 1 (11 over) is 10% HQ rate, Tier 2 (31 over) is 25% HQ rate and Tier 3 (51 over) is a 50% HQ rate.

I just got to think of one good thing you could add.
Peoples own crafting lists.
Because some recepies arent exactly good to skillup on.
People can choose what recepies they want to show and what levels they want to skill on that.

So you dont have to write it down on some paper or whatever.

Using the skill search will only show cheap to make recommended skilling items that help you to break even. Users of Vana'Guide can suggest new recipies via the Vana'Guide website to be added/removed from the recommended list. I'll also add in client side functionality so you can save your own list.

erm.. >.>; you can easily get a 50% HQ rate being only 31 points over if you craft on say... darksday new moon. It's at 51+ that moon phase and day don't count and you just HQ a lot of stuffs regardless.

On your first pic in the description of the mob it says "It's advised not EXPing on these mobs..." where it should say "It's advised not to EXP on these mobs..." You can't advise someone on not doing something and refer to that something in the present tense. It should be future tense and thus the "to EXP."

"not EXPing" and "not to EXP" are both non-finite verb forms -- neither has any tense, present or future. While idiomatic North American English generally prefers the infinitive "to" form as the referent of the empty subject "it," there's nothing strictly ungrammatical for most speakers about using the "ing" non-finite form instead, and in some dialects of English this is actually preferred.

Sorry, but I'm picky about people who "correct" the grammar of others with non-existent grammatical principles. A case could be made for this change on the grounds of style and awkwardness in many dialects, but not because of any tense clash in tenseless clauses.

I assume you're going to send them the URL of Allakhazam and ffxi.cannotlinkto too? - Both of these sites provide the information I'm providing. Except mine comes in an application.

The last time I checked, SE were not the authority for deciding which software can be outlawed.

Of course, they could threaten me with a law suit - but on what grounds? I rest my case. Vana'Guide doesn't alter the game, nor does it make it easier or give an unfair advantage. It does not conflict with any intellectual property rights.

The program does not advocate the use of the windower program, and such, it can only be used out of FFXI without the use of other programs. It gives no unfair advantage because the info is availible out of game, at multiple websites on the web.
