As you level them up since the update, they start to last longer. seems to increase by 10 mins or 5 fights. As for the dungeons, I guess we'll just have to put up with it.

26 updated for new rules.

# 26) Your NPC will stay with you for 15 fights, or until you send it away, zone, die or get it killed. Possibly a 45 min time limit as well, but I'll confirm this. After a while, your NPC will stay with you for 20 fights or 55 mins, but this is knocked back down to 15/45 if you drop your pearl.

I saw my "Attacker" NPC counter an attack today. I've also seen him double-attack several times, so the "Attacker" style gets Double Attack and Counter. It wouldn't surprise me if they get Attack Bonus traits as well.

I am curious (this may have already been posted) if when luto says you can upgrade your NPC's weapon, you have to give an 'upgraded' weapon to them before getting another upgrade. Er, what I mean is this: I have an Uchigatana given to my NPC. I want to give him a Nodachi, but I'm curious as to if I'll need to give a Tachi first...

About the low enmity point, I'm gonna have to disagree with you here. Here's what I think is going on (I'll start with an example):

Let's say I'm a level 20 WHM using a club (very underskilled club, let's say). I go to palborough mines and attack a tier 1 quadav. I do 20 or so damage. My level 50 MNK friend provokes, and cannot get hate off of me.

The thing is, the only reason you notice weak provokes is because you're fighting TWs. Your damage, while it may not seem like it's that strong, to a mob that's 15 levels below you, it grabs a lot of hate. This is hard to explain. Lets try this: (and the numbers are all crap, so... yeah)

Let's say 1 damage dealt gains 1 point of hate. I'm fighting a mob with 50 HP. I hit for 20, and gain 20 points of hate. Person B provokes, and gains 5 points of hate. I have WAY more hate than him. Now let's start fighting a mob with 500 HP. I hit for 20, and gain 20 points of hate. Person B uses provoke, and gains 50 points of hate. Now he has way more hate than me.

What I'm trying to say is that Provoke is stronger with stronger monsters. With much weaker monsters, provoke just can't hold its own against normal attacks.

Well, at least that's my opinion on the matter. Rate up for the great guide^^

I'd highly recommend that, if your strongest WSes are Distortion closers, you give your NPC a polearm. 3/4ths of the time they'll open properly for you.

Do the various NPC races differ in stats as our regular characters do? Galka having highest DEF and STR, Taru having highest MP etc etc.

Or are the different races purely for aesthetics and are they all exaclty the same when it comes to stats and abilities?

I agree their armor doesn't seem to effect their deffense much. My mithra popped up in STARTER legs and body and was tanking the same damage she always does. Also there's no apparent pattern to their equipment selections. Now she's back to lizard armor, trader gloves and I think scale pants and shoes.

I'm very interested in this. I was considering going with a Galka for my NPC, but if I later decided I wanted to switch him to healer mode, it would be annoying if he were terrible at it (leaving me the options of starting over with a new NPC, not having my NPC heal, or having him run out of MP a lot).

Perhaps I will try this (only leveling him as much as needed before switching to healer) and check the results. Could people please post the performance of NPCs-as-healers, including race, how many cures before they have to rest, etc.?

I didn't noticed this mentioned but you can trick Attack/Sneak Attack on your NPC and hate is transfered. (unlike Pets or Summons) I positioned her behind the mob and opened the fight with TA/SA, almost killed my poor Mithra this way.. lol

So has anyone been able to confirm the dual wielding ability and if so, what exactly were the conditions.

I tried to give my NPC two swords and Luto only took one of them. At this time I've got my NPC set to healer type.

maybe on attacker mode they take two weapons, but I havent tested this so don't quote me on it.

Hopefully someone will find out eventually... even though the GKT are cool . . .

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but, im gonna help my GF (lvl 30 RDM) get her NPC pal - with my help (DRK 44) this should be possible right even tho shes a little low? I solo'ed both monsters in this quest when I got mine and barely took a scratch so i'm not worried in that sense.....

But will I be able to get in to help her fight the dragon? I know it says you can bring 2 or 3 (cant remember which) friends to help u but since ive already done it will it still let me in the hut? I dont want to send he up there thinking im gonna help but then ending up her having to do it alone and dying. Any special I need to do before it'll let me in?

Cheers.

# 10) You can upgrade your weapon (it seems) after 13-14 calls (unless it's exp-based or no. of mobs killed with 1st weapon, or no. of days).

I seem to have a differing experience with this. I gave my NPC (though Luto) a Claymore (lvl 10 G.Sword) yesterday, which was the first day that I got the cutscene. I then killed 15 mobs in Sauromon<tab> with my NPC before he left. Talking to Luto yesterday she said nothing unusual, but today talking to Luto she said that my NPC was confused and wanted a new weapon. I traded her a 2-Handed Sword (lvl 20 G.Sword) and she accepted it and traded it on to my NPC.

Today my NPC was weilding the new weapon and doing more damage than yesterday against the same mobs. I've definately called my NPC less than 10 times, so I'd wager that it's a different factor than number of calls that causes weapon upgrade opporunities.

No, you can't fight the dragon again. You may be lucky and find that someone else is waiting to fight it when you get there who she can team up with though.

I got mine after 12 calls, but I hadn't checked after 10 or 11. My NPC is still lvl 30, so it's not exp based, though I've never got her killed.

You can call your NPC within an alliance. That is, if your pt in the alliance has less than 6 members.
E.g.
PT 1: 6 people >> No one in this pt can call their NPC.
PT 2: 4 people >> 2 members in this pt can call their NPC.

Sorry if this has been asked recently but is the only drawback to dropping your linkpearl and getting a new one that the npc lasts 15 fights instead of 20? 15x2 a day still sounds a whole lot better than 20x1. And does this fight cap of 20 to 15 last only for the first time you use your newly optained linkpearl or are you permanately bumbed down to 15 fights max?

i can confirm that the headgear option can be unlocked with an Attacker NPC. My NPC was 36 at the time. However, i had dropped my pearl prior to the Aug. 1st update and when i asked for a new one, i had lost the option. My NPC is now 38 and i have not dropped a pearl since, yet the option has yet to reappear.

Apparently you lose some of your options as well. I am now speculating, but you will probably be able to get the number of fights up to, or past 30 if you don't drop the pearl, so it may be worth just holding on... I am.

Question:

At the rhondevouz point you are given the option to change jobs:
healer, shield or attack.

Also at the point you are given fight options:
1. Notify if mp low
2. Notify if hp low
3. Notify when ws is ready

Is there only one choice for this or can you choose all three?
