You do not have to be a party of three to spawn 3 skeletons. 3 can be spawned at a time to make it go quicker.

maybe having it out is based on your current level because i was level 50 RDm duoing stuff and i had my NPC out for 45 minutes. not 12

My current theory is that the NPC stays out for a certain # of fights and that # is based on your lvl.
As you can see by my testing its been 15 fights every single time, and I'm guessing that once my THF hits 10 the # of fights will increase.
I'll be updating this as I found out more

Here's what's going on with my Npc so far:

Day 1 - Brought Npc out to Sauromague Champaign. Killed a few things (about 15 mins) then dismissed her to go to Jeuno. She started in the Scale Mail suit and when I checked the RP she was wearing the Scale part but lv1 mithran Rse body ~.~; She was on Shield Mode.

Day 2 - Went out to Western Altepa Desert. Started fighting an EP (to me) Antican Mage and she got 1 shotted by Aeroga II -.-; She was wearing the same equip when we started that day when I checked the RP except she had Lizard Gloves on. She was on Shield Mode. She didn't even last 1 fight. =(

Day 3 - Took Sufhi out to Yuhtunga Jungle so we could kill Liz for the Teleport-Yhoat Marble. She stayed about 20 minutes then said "Well, we filled today's quota" and left. Check the RP and she was wearing all the same gear but had the level 40 Plate Leggings(boots) on. Also gained access to Healer and Attacker mode when I checked the RP.

Day 4 - Went Marble farming again, she lasted about 25 minutes and she dinged to 31 just as she left. So your Npc can get xp even if you fight TW mobs. Checked the RP and she was wearing the same gear but changed the Lv1 Rse body for a Lizard jerkin. I also had her in Attacker mode this time around, and she Double Attacked, but did not provoke. I forgot to set her to tell me when she had TP, but I was able to Skillchain with her.

More tomorrow :3

Let me simply say, the NPC Healer is awesome!
Mine casted Protect II, Shell, Blink, Stoneskin, CURE III! (half-health), Dia, paralyze, slow, silence, even banish. Still want to get some newb to die next to me to see if she'll raise ^.^ The NPC has been the best thing next to sex!... forget I just said that...

From what I can tell, levelling the NPC with a job below level 30 causes it to get equipment that suits the level cap, so if you plan on keeping your NPC well-equipped, please try and level it with a job above 30.

Mine just put on Centurion's Scale and I've only levelling it with my 10MNK so I doubt it has anything to do with the level you're fighting at.

Recent Discovery, <ft> is one way of typing out your NPC's name. Why would SE put this in here unless you could control some of it's actions...
Thoughts?

Thanks for the link, I'll post this in with the list so people can just refer to that to check their style.
And yeah the list isn't complete, work and school and life have gotten in the way of me finishing it -_-;

From what I can see, I've noticed a trend regarding the amount of time your NPC stays with you. I will test tomorrow to confirm.

It seems that the length of time your NPC stays with you is based on the number of battles, not a variable amount of time, and this number seems to be 15 fights. I'll try several times to confirm. The first time I summoned my NPC, she stayed for 45 minutes as a temporary replacement for a person who had to leave for an hour. The second and third times I used my NPC, she stayed for a considerably shorter length of time. I did not count the number of battles as this did not seem important. Each time, she switched gear (though I loved what she was wearing the second time I summoned her. ^^).

I've heard that also, as long as your NPC's level would make an enemy con as being easy prey or higher, they will gain experience whether you get experience or not. I'll continue testing to confirm this as well, as well as ask around.

Personality types appear to be governed by the NPC's name and hair type (hair color does not seem to affect anything, and as for race, the personalities seem to be spread amongst them, but can be the same personality from once race to another). I will do more testing to confirm, as a friend of mine has picked the same name for their NPC as I have.

The base "job" seems to be Warrior (Confirmed: Provoke, Double Attack, Red Lotus Blade WS), and the different combat styles may determine what your NPC uses as a subjob. Naturally, for the "Healer" combat style, it appears to be White Mage. I will do more testing on this. Attacker may have Samurai subbed, as the NPC seems more Weapon Skill oriented and uses Weapon Skills more frequently than in the regular "Shield" combat style.

More updates as I find more information.

I've got something of note to contribute.

On my first NPC, I thought I could get her some good leveling by fighting demons in Xacarbard. She stayed for a good 45 minutes every time in this area but her equipment was actually getting WORSE! Downgraded all the way down to starting RSE. My LS mate leveled his NPC here too and she also downgraded to starting RSE.

I got a new NPC and have just been farming in Pashow and Rolanberry fields. Her equipment has steadily got better now.

Not completely conclusive but it seems that you shouldn't level your NPC on mobs you wouldn't dare level on were you her level.

I'm fairly certain that your responses to the 3 questions are what determine the appearance of your friend, rather than the name. To test, I went to the official FF XI website and used the [link=]character creator[/link] to pick the face I wanted. There are two choices for hair color, "A" and "B", and my guess is that "A" is the third guard's favourite color. When I had answered all 3 questions, I was rewarded with the exact character model that I had been aiming for. I'm not sure how this would work in other races than mithra, though, when there are sometimes models with four different hair colors.

I've got some new info.

I was leveling my NPC on Evil Weapons today as a level 51 smn. They were Easy Prey to me. Anywhoo, all of a sudden, my NPC gained a level! It looked exactly like when us players level up. So, with my new lvl 31 NPC, I continued to kill monsters till he said he had to go. On my way into Jeuno I talked to Luto again, and to my surprise, I got a CutScene!! She told me that she could now accept weapons I gave her and she would then give them to my NPC! Tomorrow I'm going to try this to see if my NPC will really use them.

Other Info:
-You can skillchain with your NPC
-Your NPC can skillchain with Avatars (I did a NPC>Avatar>Me skillchain today!)
-So far my NPC has used Fast Blade, Burning Blade, Red Lotus Blade, and Flat Blade.
-When set on attacker he will sometimes Hit twice
-If you click on your NPC it will ask if it's time to go. If you click on it again, it will decide to stay longer, but if you dont, it will teleport out.
-I noticed even with the Weapon Skill warning on, my NPC didnt say anything >_>;
-I think the NPCs should gain exp no matter what level you are. It just depends on how tough the monster is compaired to your NPC
-You can cast Cures,poisona,paralyna and others of that type.... but not regen, or AoE buffs on your NPC(such as bard songs, or barfirea for example) ... havent tried avatar buffs yet...

O well, that's what I've came up with. Hope it helps you

I have a question. does the name you pick make a difference in how your character is going to look?

I chose a hume male named Zesomething.
I talked to redghost and he gave me the hair parted in the center choice
i talked to old guy in ru'lude gardens and he gave me the beard choice
i talked to the mithra and she gave me the "bristly hair" choice.
i said no to all of them because i want none of those <_<;
and they won't change their discriptions. ; ;

I believe it was previously mentioned, but those are your only choices. They based the selection on the three most popular character models from the last census.

Not sure if someone has posted this here or in other NPC threads but it seems that if you pull hate with aspir your npc will not attack your target untill you hit it with an effensive spell

i found this out as i drag a crab around as an MP batery while farming and she would'nt attack anyof the aspir drawn mobs untill i hit it or recast on them...

another kink for SE to work out me thinks

I ended up picking the wrong face and instead of the happy elvaan female type I wanted (the one with the wavy hair) I ended up with Grumpilda McGrumpalot (the one with the straight hair and very mean look). I really wanna scrap this one and get a different NPC ; ;

Hey, that's my face! >_> It's not a mean look; from certain angles it almost looks like a smile...kinda? XD Anyway, the one you're looking for, I believe, is "hair parted in the middle with one side longer than the other." I believe you need to talk to Akta in Ru'Lude Gardens to get this one.

Same here and no luck either. I went from Onion sword and paranna shield up to fire sword and frost shield but nothing...

Hello all,
I got my NPC Buddy named Kenji,Hume male with a sexy beard.
I actually choosed randomly the stuff when talking to Luto and Bheem.Indeed it would have been nice to have a preview ( like when the passenger quest on airships)...But oh well,he's not very cute but he does the job. I got a warrior type,i tried it 2 times. Both times he indeed stayed for 15 fights or so. I was happy and surprise to see he /vokes !!!! ( *ahum* better than some ppl lvl50ish than i partied with :P ). I saw that i could take 'very tought' and ' Incredibly tough' mobs. Only things that i find less interesting is the 20ish hours to re-cast...And he doesn't stay very long...

Well this is all new and fun and i'm sure SE will do follow-ups on that and make it better!

PS:
Thumbs up :For adding more fun into Vanadiel,npc buddy.
Thumbs down : Foe putting on sell the yukatas we earn with efforts last year ( but that

Probably because your NPC allready has a sword. I dont think its meant to upgrade the current weapon, more to give more weapon types.

Try trading a Butterfly Axe (great axe), that works for sure. ^^ My npc also used counter btw, so WAR/MNK I guess. ;o

I still have to try other things thou but from what I've heard so far it's pretty much the lowest lvl weapons that can be traded. The npc probably upgrades them on its own like with the armor. ;)
