Can't we all just get along. We complain about them, they complain about us blah blah blah. Can't we all go back to hating noobs and just get along (jk).

i think the ones that are affected the most are english speaking asian players and australian players, and everyone that plays in Japanese peak time... and I am one of them T_T

We can't play on NA peak time and we are rarely invited on Japanese peak time. Well, we didn't complain, we just play the game and pray if there is any good soul out there will invite us T_T.

This problem between NA and JPN has been happening too long, /sigh.

note: no point here, just a rant.. (or complain? ^^; )

i read that post......
i translated it with a translater. it looked a little racist to me, and was pointing at an old issue that i will not go into.
I would post the translated version for every one to read. but it's rather long.
This whole infernal argument is based on Racism rather you see it or not. No one person or race is responsible for this so stop pointing fingers! This is getting way outta hand here people.
The JP and NA's have both expressed concerns about a lot of things, so they for nerfed.
As for this crap with JP's complaining about us "Foreigners", you know what? it's all crap. It really really is. They are not ALL yelling about us.
I have some pretty decent JP Friends man, i even hang with some that speak no english. matter a fact i know one who bought a Japanese to English dictionary just so we could talk with each other easier.
So lets just drop the Racist part of everything here and move on.
And Qweng the way you posted that message wasnt right. you shoulda knew you were going to get flamed for it (i'm not flaming only stating). I understand your English may be limited so i am looking past it. But maybe you should think about the way you are saying things next time. And as for you that flamed him, that was totally not cool at all. he has just as much right to come here and stick up for himself and the JPs as any one does, just lay off.
God i know i am going to get rated down for this one, but honestly people. LET IT GO!! PLEASE!!! To much bad blood her.
just remember, It's only a game! Quit accusing everyone else for something that every one did. we're all equally to blame here!
(sorry, i felt it needed to be said and done with)

Personally, the only real complaint I have is, in a way, outside of the game itself--is people who generalize about other players and the company that made this great game. Here are a few of the more common (and ridiculous) ones:

GENERALIZATION #1:
JP players are elitists who hate NA players.

GENERALIZATION #2:
NA players are botters and Gil buyers.

GENERALIZATION #3:
Chinese players are gil-sellers.

GENERALIZATION #4:
NA players do nothing but complain about everything.

GENERALIZATION #5:
If you're not Rank 5, you suck as a player.

GENERALIZATION #6:
If you are <level 15 or don't have a subjob, you are a nOOb, and you are clueless and stupid.

GENERALIZATION #7:
SE doesn't give a crap about anything except profits.

See how that works? In all seven of these examples, there are SOME case in which it applies to but most cases or players it DOESN'T apply:

#1: I have been in great, friendly all JP parties who have welcomed me and have been very gracious and fun to party with. I have also partied with NA parties that are exactly the same.

#2: I know some players who buy gil and bot, but the VAST majority of people I know don't do either. I'm talking 98% here.

#3: I know some Chinese players that, like most of the rest of us, play the game for fun.

#4: There are a lot of players, NA or otherwise, who see the glass as being half full.

#5: I have played with everyone from Rank 1 to rank 10 and for the most part, the higher the rank, the better the player. However, I have also PTYed with rank 2s that are great as players and some have actually been better players than rank 5+s.

#6: There are nOObs and there are Newbs and most of us more experienced players can tell the difference in about 10 seconds. We were all once new to the game, and a blanket condemnation of ALL new players is B.S.

#7: If SE didn't really give a crap, would they go to all this time and no doubt expense to upgrade and improve the game and attempt to address some very difficult issues? Would they have GMs to try and sort out the disputes and problems? Would they even bother with game support at all?

SE could very easily just have created the game and left it at that, flaws and all, with nothing changed, and improvements or upgrades.

Bottom line is: for every rule there is an exception. And wasting time and energy complaining up and down about FFXI in this manner is counter-productive, whether you're NA, EU or JP. Just PLAY THE GAME, people. I'm HAVING FUN, how about you?

My $.02 gil for today. Sorry it was a little long-winded. Have a nice weekend everyone.

I took some days off from work in order to play a bit more for some days (should i say nonstop?) thus giving me the chance of playing with many different people i had never seen before (even +14hrs away AUssies! nice!)

Ive had really nice and horrible pts. That happens in any "time slice". but some of the most notorious pt's i've been in, have been either all JP or having at least a JP player in them. Although this could be 'cause for me it's a highlight of the game being able to play with them.

I was a bit saddened by Q's message but it's alright, we all make asses of ourselves some time, there's no reason that a bunch of nihonjin won't.

Im neither JP nor EU or NA... so fortunately there are not as many South Americans around to have our own group of haters (not that I know of at least, and hopefully its true) and even if I've found Spanish players, those i've met have been are more likely to pt or befriending fellow countrymen, not Spanish-speakers. So I just sit down and enjoy partying with whomever i get the chance to meet, be that NAs, people from middle east, AU/NZ, JPs and other asians, EUs... I will probably pass for a NA or EU myself depending on at what time I'm playing.

BTW, in my country we affectionately call NA's and some EU gringos (we actually like them lol). But i'm not sure how "affectionately" anyone would be called a gaijin - if Im wrong please clarify.

Oooo long post. Thanks for reading it ^^
See you in game!

Actually, we have very little to complain about with the current update. SE is doing exactly what the government would do in the current situation. Too much gil in circulation due to excessive fishing putting the gil in. Most importantly the Padded Caps and lvl 100 fishers pulling in bream, etc.

With too much gil in circulation, inflation occurs. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Then the poor start buying gil from the rich just to buy items from the rich so the rich get their gil back. And inflation is still occuring due to too much gil in the economy.

Most of the changes in the update were to combat inflation. They have very little to do with gil-selling and botting. The tax is like raising the interest rate. When the interest rate goes up in our country by .25%, they are trying to slow down the economy. Trying to keep it from spining out of control. That is what SE is doing. Taking currency out of circulation. The economy will fix itself in time once they remove that problem.

The beautiful thing about getting offended, is you've got no body to blame for getting offended other than yourself. Get over it, it's a word for christ's sake. Me personally, I'm a Drunken-*** (Half Japanese, Quarter Irish, Quarter Scot) and I've learned, if you can't laugh at life, than your in for a world of irritation and anger, and have no one to blame for it but yourself, racism be damned when it comes to words, not like your getting your **** beat IRL.

I'm sure I violated some sort of message boards agreement with all that ^^

Anywho, that's just my two cents

Back before the last world shift I was on midgard, a horribly botted server. There was a few weeks my girlfriend and I were trying to get the monster signa for her brd. We camped it quite often, but we wouldn't try if there was a certain jp RDM out there. It's not that he was fast, we'd see Torrent spawn unclaimed and stay this way for a while while our vokes and charms would say "You cannot attack that target". Then after a while he'd voke, there is a delay difference. Whether you want to acknowledge it or not will not change the fact that it is that way. Now I know I won't change your mind, thought I'd just defend myself to anyone who read your comment.

isn't that when they 'fixed' the mob spawning thing? Where they would make a mob unclaimable for 2 seconds? However, the fix had a bug, where the mob that spawned would be 'claimed' by the last person that killed it for 2 seconds. That bug didn't last more than 2 days.

I've met a fair share of good JP's, one in particular, i wont post his/her name in case that player gets "blisted" on one of those BBS because of me. Anyway, He/she was basically really impressed by my limited japanese skills and we ended up /befriending each other only after 1 party in buburimu
猫ちゃんおひさしぶりです〜 俺はFusekazukiです〜 ^^

I've also met a particular JP who left the party not because he hated NA's in general (im from singapore, im not sure if they make a difference on that), but he wasn't malicious, but instead just wanted to speak to a PT leader without problem.

And of course, I've met some rank 2 JP's who act all arrogant with me about how i shouldn't be using a JP copy of FFXI,

the first scenario is the most common to me, the 2nd not-so common, the 3rd and fourth kinda rare. The fact that scenario 1 exists is simple proof that not all JP's are biased.

Now comes to think of it...I think it is not that American complains too much. It has to do with patient. After living in the US for 9 yrs, I noticed American in general are not very patient. They want things happen NOW and with little effort. Complainning happens to be a very effective way to change thing rather fast and you don't really have to do much.

If it's such a POS and a waste, why are you wasting even more of your time coming here and posting about it?

As for me, I was happy before, and I'm still happy now. Too many people take this game too seriously, like it is a job or something. If it ever gets that way for me, it's time to take a step back and rethink things. I pay 15 bucks a month to have fun and enjoy a game, not 15 bucks a month to be frustrated. So far, the update looks good. This tax thing, c'mon it really isn't affecting you negatively usless you are one of those people selling tons of 500k+ items constantly, and in that case you probably aren't playing the game, but doing it to make RL money.

I asked my japanese friend IRL to translate the basic gist of the japanese BBS, according to her, its bascially because of the 13 yr olds who are rude and mouth off racist comments and the nuclear bombs that were dropped on japan during WWII,

Seriously, even I would be outraged, if someone like howard stern mentioned something like that on TV, imagine the public outcry from the Japanese,

Please think twice before saying something that inconsiderate as it doesn't do anything constructive. they DID after all invent the TV AND Computer/video games, and here we are dissing them and overrunning their game (Just think of all the racism that goes towards the spanish and german/english/french players from NA's and you'll realize what hypocrites some people can be)

I Understand that there are, as well, inconsiderate and elitist JP's out there and i will, similarly, post on their BBS reflecting the views and concerns of the rest of the FFXI Community.

Guess what?

JP players are not all mature adults. There are JP noobs as well. They complain. They whine. They blame the "deterioration" of the game on someone else.

Sound familiar?

If funny everyone is like OMSTFU u racist n00b! Then they go on to explain how Japanese don't complain, and we do. Guess what? That is a generalized statement directed at a certain race as well. Is their culture more restrained than ours? Yes, I will give you that. But equating fewer kids complaining about a video game to percentage of reported rapes in a country is stretching it. The message board/MMORPG community has a culture of its own, and apparently a core value of that community is complaining. Things don't always go people's way, and they often blame others for it, especially younger people.

Look at these boards. We complain that things sell for such inflated prices because of gil-sellers, but when Lizzy drops those boots, we turn around and sell them for 700k. And we are not partially to blame?

Similarly, with their head-start in the game and high-level jobs/crafting skills, many JP players have been able to greatly influence the game economy to the detriment of lower-level NA players. But now that the economy is all screwed up, they want to blame gil-sellers and NA's (= gil-buyers). Are they wholly innocent?

It is human nature to see certain groups and cultures as "other," and to sometimes blame those "others" when things go bad. Have NA gil-buyers messed up the game? Sure. But have no JP players ever bought gil? I bet some have.

In the past couple of days, these boards have been filled about the ranting and raving over how much the update sucks. Do you really think the JP don't do the same thing? They simply add NA to the b*tch list as well. It's nothing personal, just how human nature works.

Eh, where are you getting this information? I don't ever remember the Japanese inventing TV and computer/video games. You can thank the Europeans (mainly the Germans) for the early invention of the TV, and as for computer/video games, remember Atari anyone? Made them cheaper and of better quality, yes. As for inventing, you giving waaaay too much credit here.

EDIT: Atari was an American company with a Japanese name, and the Japanese company Sega was started by an American.

A while back, someone made a post on this board made a lot of sense to me... I dont recall the title, and cant find it, so I cannot give proper credit here. Anyhow...

To summarize, it basically suggested that putting brand new NA players (at NA release) on the existing servers with an already firmly established (and in many cases gil-wealthy) population of tenured JP players was a poor choice on SE's part.

The post went on to theorize that the first NA players, rather than benefiting from the experience of the existing population, was thrust into competition with them because they had more experience, better gear, used better food, etc. As we all know, its much easier to finance and excel at a lowbie job when you can subsidize it with a much higher level job (esp one at or near the level cap).

Blah blah blah... From the very beginning, this was a very different game for NA players than it had been for JP. There was an extremely sharpe learning curve... and the new population was met unrealistic expectations. In order to stay ahead of that learning curve, or meet those expectations, the new NA's needed gil... only they didnt have the benefit of a lv 50+ job to hunt big-money drops with.

Who wouldnt complain? Who wouldnt consider ways to get a leg up (cheat)?

I dont know how accurate that is, since I came in well after the PS2 release. But it sure as heck makes sense to me. I tend to agree with the contention that there may be a bit too much griping going on. But honestly, I cant blame those who are being vocal about their issues with SE and the Game. Its far from a perfect situation.

Anyhow... that's my 2 cents.

What the hell? Why are children commenting on the birth of games if they think the NES was it!? First computer game was made by a bored programmer who wanted to see if it could be done. An AMERICAN programmer. He used the computer at his Ivy League University (It was either the Harvard or MIT labs.. I no longer recall, but I think it was MIT), and created a game that was remarkably complicated for its time, probably to test himself. Others began to mimic this accomplishment in other universities, and an enterprising company tried to market the first game, but it was too complicated to catch on. After that came Pong, and the next few cabinets, then the Ataris and whatnot (Shortened for simplicity). Now, flash forward to 1985 and the great video game crash thereof; Originality and inovation had dwindled to such a low point that games flat out crashed and stopped selling. It was believed to be the end of video games. Now enters Nintendo; Thanks to Shigeru Miyamoto and his attempts (And successes) to innovate the games of the time, the NES became massively popular in Japan, and was shipped to the US with a gimmick game and controller for it. This was the REBIRTH of gaming. Not the birth. There is a distinct difference. Not unlike with everything else, the Japanese are incapable of creating something 100% Brand new. What they CAN do, however, and IMO do a damned good job at, is improving things that already exist. Like Animation and anime, or cars (Note that I'm not a car guy, so that's a guess), or robots.

Carry on with the FFXI discussion.
