i didn't like the matrix. i didn't like the sequels. i never did. the plot, acting, dialogue, action sequences, cinematography, credits, even the hair was trite, hackneyed and pompous. none, i repeat, NONE of the special effects were new or original. all the violence was completely stylized, and while some might like that, i can't stand it. the plot was an amalgamation of the back story from terminator 2 and every single philosophical text ever made. nothing about it was intelligent or deep, the idea that our world may not be the 'real' world is as old as dirt, and if you don't believe me, i know someone with a bachelor's in philosophy that would like to have a word with you. there was nothing worthwhile in these movies. it was just a big stewpot of themes and ideas from other movies and books.

you can go ahead and say to yourself that i just like to bash it because it's the 'cool' thing to do, but you're deluding yourself. i saw the matrix the day it came out, and was sure it was going to be the best thing since bottled beer. i walked out disliking it. of course you have the right to like the movies, i could list a ton of ****** movies that i like, but don't try to put it off as something it isn't. the matrix movies are mindless action movies, plain and simple. they may have tried to inject some intelligence, but they failed miserably and only came off looking pompous and pretentious.

edit: and stop talking about her *** (or what you assume is her ***), you're making us males with more than one dimension to us look bad.

Well here's my statement, Halo sucks! And here's why: FPS belong on the PC, they were made for the PC, they were made for a mouse and keyboard combo, not two analog controls.

I have played through Halo with friends, all the while I was wanting my mouse and keyboard. Then when I played the PC demo, I realized it wasn't just the controller that made it suck, the whole game was horrrible. Nothing but stealing from other games to make their story line.

Vehicles? I've had those since Tribes and some Quake mods. Nothing new there.

Melee attack? Ever press the 1 button in a FPS? It changes your weapon to your melee attack. (most of the time)

Nothing new, nothing inventive, just a crappy game that people played and loved cause it was the only thing they could get a group of friends to play.

I never liked PC FPS's to be honest with ya. Halo 2 is for people who like console games really. I feel that I have way better control over my guy with the controller in my hand rather than a mouse and a keyboard.

i feel i have more control with a mouse and keyboard than a controller. *shrug* it's just a matter of which is more intuitive to you.

there are a few good console FPS', but on the whole, most are (were, anyway) ports of PC FPS', and suck horribly. the PC FPS genre is much more prolific, and consistent in producing quality games (not to say there aren't soem stinkers for the PC). i think that's a big reason why a lot of people would prefer PC FPS'.

I have one question for all those beta testers out there...
Do you know what an NDA is? It means you're not supposed to tell people your a beta tester, or post on a message board somewhere that you are.

One online game is more then enough to keep me busy, and I'm quite happy here.

As for the Matrix movies, I think the main problem with them, is the same problem that most sequels face.

The very first Matrix, even if you didn't think it was "The Greatest Movie Ever", still presented a fresh approach on things, new effects, and a pretty well thought out plotline. If you remotely like science fiction or fantasy, chances are you thought the movie was at least interesting, if not better.

However, much like Terminator 3, Matrix 2 and Matrix 3 didn't really present anything terribly fresh or new to differentiate it from the first movie. Of course the storyline moved forward, but at that point, with nothing new in the way of special effects, it then fell upon the actors and plot to keep the movies amazing, and at least in my opinion, they didn't.

Not to say Matrix 2 or Matrix 3 was horrible, but they simply weren't as good as the first one. Similarly, Terminator 3, was simply a rehash of Terminator 2. If you liked 2, you probably liked 3, but it certainly lost the Wow factor of the 2nd one.

Anyways, to those heading over there, have fun.

Matrix online beta starts in one month.. it seems not that hard to enter.. just preordering the game or in some other places...

Who is thinking on leaving this "game" for that game?

I already had enough of ffxi :S... next game please... lol i have even thinking about wow.

Unlike many people here, I've actually played Matrix Online. I went to PAX in Seattle, and I played the game there.

It sucked. Badly. The combat system is like an annoying variant of the "real time" system used in City of Heroes, except that the timing is even more of an issue, so lag is going to kill this game. Plus, the animation was really crappy...it doesn't really capture the feel of the movies IMO, and it isn't much fun as an MMORPG either.

Now it's possible that they've totally overhauled it since the version I played at PAX. But they better have scrapped that whole thing and built something totally new, because there pretty much wasn't anything worth saving in the version I played.

i'm not really interested enough in matrix online to look into it, but to all those who are, hope ya have fun :)

no real reason that i'm not interested, i think maybe FFXI just holds more potential, and more of my attention. just an opinion though.

as for the movies though, i absolutely loved the first one. unbelievably original, and thought provoking. i liked reloaded for its action sequences (i love hardcore action movies, sue me) but i thought that the dialogue was convoluted and verbose. and the scenes where the characters would argue about free will were actually pretty damned unneccessary and annoying.

i think that the best summation of reloaded can be found here: http://slate.msn.com/id/2082928
(though i think he's a little to hard on the action sequences)

as for revolutions though, i hated that one. absolutely terrible. they took everything that started to go wrong in reloaded and compounded it, by making it seem like they were just inserting whatever they thought would look cool in the movie, regardless of its cinematic value. (i.e. "hey! lets have neo punch in slo-mo, and show his fist hitting individual droplets of rainwater! that'd be so cool!") the final fight between neo and smith looked like an action sequence from that horrible excuse for an anime by the name of dragonball Z, what with them flying all around for no reason other than to show that they could do it.

seems that the directors, knowing that the hook of that initial amazement and originality from the original matrix was gone, thought that they could replace it with layers of wordy dialogue, and uninspired action.

i won't let it take away from the beauty of that first movie though. and for anyone who likes the genre, i gotta recommend to you "Equilibrium". go check that one out if you haven't. its probably my favorite movie. kinda combines the matrix with the book 1985, heh. and the final fight scene is amazing.

Yeah, and all they can really do is cancel your beta account. Oh how horrible!

Graphics = Dated
Tutorial = Crap
Gameplay = Non-existant
Players = I saw *maybe* 50 people during peak times when I logged on.

Just to give a heads up on how bad it is, beta testers are given a TIME FRAME that they can log in and play. Like between 6-9pm somedays, and 5-10pm others. Any game beta that limits your beta time is horrible.

Not going to play the Matrix on-line but I saw a few posts regarding EQ2. Has anyone seen acctual Fraps in-game footage yet?! I have and it looks really cool. You can too:

http://eq2.ogaming.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11242

Keep in mind, like our FFXI vids here the quality suffers for bandwidth reasons. Try to concentrate on content. I am definately going to play EQ2. Not canceling my FFXI acct just yet tho ^^

I got accepted for the closed beta, but it turns out my computer can't handle it...it couldn't handle FFXI either, which is exactly why I play on PS2.

If I can get a better computer, I'll play MxO just because I'm a huge Matrix fan. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to go without T_T

Hey Mistress come play WoW with me when its released ^^.

I'm already trying to talk my old LS "Nightowls" from Fenrir server to come join me, at least for the Open Beta. (Free 30 day trial).

I'll be a Human pally Named Dawkins, or an Undead Warlock named Thorpe. Lemme know, the more the merrier.

I thought the original Matrix was okay. Not great, but okay. The second one started out okay, but then there was the 'Rave at the Center of the Earth' as well as a few other annoying thought lines. I never did see the third one after that.

As far as Matrix online... never. WoW may be flirted with, EQ2 probably not... only one currently in the works MMORPG has the potential in my mind to tear me away from FFXI... and I'm not listing it here. The people who are going to want to play it will likely find it easily enough on their own.

honestly.. no..

regardless of feelings about movies.. let's look at it as a game:

I see a STAGGERING lack of diversity possibly in the matrix online..

I mean, you can be... human...or... machine.. or... I see no potential 3rd option.

you can fight against...humans.. or... machines..

skill sets will be some type of martial arts, some type of pistol user / gunner, some type of heavy weapon user, MAYBE they might toss in sub pilot but I doubt that will be a class on it's own.. likely some type of hacking skill of some kind.. and there you have it.

toss in the obligatory bullet time and slap "Matrix online" on the title and kick that puppy out the door. I think it's fairly safe to say FFXI's only real competition this year will be WoW and EQ2.

Halo WAS a PC game until big ol' Microsoft bought Bungie. the XBox game is the port.

Dumbass.

Edit: The OP's blog has a picture that was posted on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 that creeped me out.
