I may sound like a newbie here (specially at my level), but I am in a weird situation here.

I have leveled from 1 to 47 hearing the complains about noobs and bad players. But lately as I start to go around the circles of lvl 50-70, I start to hear the word "Elitist" and how they are blisted. Can somebody explain me what this term means in the game?

Basically put, someone who wants everything done perfect. But, the term doesn't have to be put to that extreme. Not all elitists are bad.

I have a friend who refered to this as the "e-***** syndrome." Meaning, in the minds eye of some level 65 who plays the game day in and out, they're more superiour to anyone below their level. Of course, they're are many people who aren't like that at all. But you will come across those who won't even give you the time of day.

You just STFU you newb. Sitting on the internet for so long and you don't know stupid little words like elitist? Even if you been on the net for only one day you should know this, because I did, because I am. In games too, so you just shut up or I'll come train your FF character with my uber geared lvl 70 character (you'll never see that day of getting that lvl because you obviously suck at the internet).

^ Thats an elitist.

Looks like everyone has a different definition.

To me it is someone who strives for perfection.

Perfectionist is probably a better word for it, but people use the term elitist instead.

I would consider myself an elitist I strive to be the best I can be. My whm has all the best mp/mnd items and I carry around hi-ethers and melon juice.

There aren't many extreme cases that expect others to keep as high a standard as themselves, but most elitists expect some respect.

They will leave your gimp group with unleveled subs and people who dont use food or decent gear **** them off.

Maybe, for the most part on these forums and online games though, its to classify people that for some reason think they are better then you, no matter what the case, in and out of game... and aren't afraid to rub it in your face in front of anyone and everyone.

Yes. The term elitest is reserved only for those said nasty players that are rude and inconsiderate to everyone around them. Their way is always the right way, and you stfu if you disagree because you are wrong noob.

Avoid these guys like the plauge.

Perfectionist - Somone who strives to be the best they can at what they do. They ask others opinions on gear occasionally, and generally work hard for what they have. Most will readily give advice -if asked-, but won't bother you randomly.

Elitist - Someone who strives to be Uber and inform others of how Uber they really are. Someone who will stick their nose in your business even if they aren't in your party, or even if your soloing.

There are varying degrees of both, but these are general and fairly accurate in my opinion.

Couldnt have said it better myself :)

elitists should be avoided. I hate some of the ones that get invited to a party and start trying to take over, telling the high lvl tank when to voke, shouting at the whm to heal etc etc.

me....im the perfectionist kind of player, i like my Ranger to be equipt with the best gear i can get before i even think about partying, and i like giving advice if im able.
i hate elitists...always have always will.

I'll give a good example. True and funny at that.

Well, here i am, walking out of town for the first time with my new charector/mule. im a lvl 1 whm. Im walking out to selbina to sell some food (cheap at that)... i get a check then i get a tell.

elitist - Youre such a noob.
me - what?
elitist - You're a noob dude, get used to it.

at this time i do a /sea all... to my surprise, he was a lvl 9 warrior... no sub... newbie gear still on. (did he sea all to not give him the satisfaction of me checking him.)

me - heh, ok...
elitist - you have to realize im better than you, i can kill everything here...
me - good for you
elitist - youre going to die and ill laugh.
me - ...
elitit - Dont expect to join my partys, you suck if youre only lvl 1... it took me 5 minutes to lvl past that.
me - ...

meanwhile in real life, i didnt know whether to laugh or just be sad.

This is when 2 worlds collide. noobs and elitists. noobitist.

An elitist isn't a noob who makes fun of noobs. An elitist, in my opinion, is someone who has a higher level than you, better equipment than you, plays 100 times more than you do, and makes fun of you cause you work and don't have the time to level all day, farm all day, etc...

Elitists aren't noobs, but everyone else is.

The way I view it elitists are all high levels, they're the ones who forget that they started out as low levels to. They're the same as noobs in that they refuse to learn, but since they're a high level they don't need to. If asked for help on anything they will most likely laugh, even if you helped them get to where they are. In my opinion elitsts are worse than noobs.

My opinion on the difference between an elitist and a perfectionist is that an elitist tries to be better than everyone else and a perfectionist tries to be the best they can be. They will both have great gear, use food, and have up to date spells. However, a perfectionist will accept someone who isn't as "Uber" as they are but won't accept a slacker whereas an to an elitist if you don't have Leaping Boots, Monster Signa, Hairpin(you know the one) etc. then you are crap.

Elitism also tends to be associated with the rich, but in this game that arena is shared also by the unemployed and technically adept.

:) BTW, I consider myself to be a perfectionist looking down at the line of elitism trying not to cross. Which in this game can be tough at times.

an elitist is someone like me who refuses to play with a lvl 25 warrior that only has lizard body armor (yes that was the only piece of armor he had) and a lvl 1 country ring, thus causing the group to break up due to bitter emotions.

or wait, maybe that's perfectionist. or noobitist. darn vocabulary!

since i dont check everyone upon joining a group, it was later that i realized he had such poor gear, and in fact the group was doing as well as could be expected in kazham but i didn't feel like carrying him further in the game so he could be a level 30 warrior with only lizard gear. so i could have kept quiet and not say anything but i couldn't, because i post everyday on this board about how it's up to us not to allow certain types of players to gain more levels.

Hmmm ... not sure where I fall along the spectrum between "Perfectionist" and "Elitist."

I try to keep my gear up to date, I have all the Ninja spells and tools for my level, I use food, I use my Search Comment, I read the SC chart, I refuse to level my main job until my subjob is a few levels higher than I really need (e.g., not leveling Ranger past 30 until I get Ninja to 20).

I expect other players to meet this same standard, but I don't berate them or try to degrade them if they don't. I've given up asking "why" of anyone over level 20. I just won't group with anyone who hasn't seemed to even make an effort to keep his character current. I don't expect to see an array of +1 gear with every /check I do in a party. I'm not going to harrass a mage who might not have every spell he/she should (maybe they forgot to bring the scroll with them for when they leveled). I do not believe in "perfection" ... but I believe in striving for perfection.

Under 20, maybe they just don't know, so I'll suggest that they'll have more fun if they used up-to-date gear and food. This is when you separate the "newbs" from the "noobs" ... a "newb" will take the advice for what's it's worth and maybe ask how to make money to buy better stuff ... a "noob" will tell me to "stfu" ... either way, I don't badger the player about it.

Elitism, or being an elitist is an attitude, it is not perfectionism (is that even a word?) or being a perfectionist.

You can be an elitist and a perfectionist. You can be an elitist and not a perfectionist, in fact you could be the worest player in the world and still be an elitist, though not a very good one. Like I said it's an attitude. Much like "God Complex".

I don't think I'm the best... and I don't have the best gear possible. I don't expect people to have all +1 gears.

I do expect them to have at least up to date equipment and to have at least close to level subjob. Altho more and more, I'm becoming annoyed by less then fully levelved subjob, especially below level 30 - how hard is it to get a job at 15?

I've left parties before because they had member without subjobs (in qufim) or member with very very crappy gears. I've been called an Elitist for that... *shrugs* Whatcha gonna do.

There is a huge difference between a perfectionist and an elitist, even limiting ourselves to this game. A perfectionist is someone who wants everything about the group and the experience to be the best possible. Everyone's jobs should be just right, their gear should be outstanding, and people shouldn't be messing up their roles. So a perfectionist can be kind of annoying, but they at least have good intentions. To accomplish more, to beat the quest sooner, to level the hell up.

So think of a perfectionist as a job. Let's call it PRF. Now, the problem is that when a PRF subs the job ASH (***hole) they become an Elitist.

And elitist is someone that derives superiority from the fact that they know more about the game, or have better gear. An elitist "refuses" to party with people who aren't already up to their godly standards. And elitist is NOT someone who wants to kick the annoying WAR with the underleveled sub wearing his starter clothes. An elitist is someone that wants to kick the otherwise competant DRG because the poor ****** missed a Skillchain.
