All I can say is excellent work. Truly remarkable.

Keep up the good work, and props to Alla for keeping the large portion of it free to use by us commoners.

I really like the profile system, I've been using it for a little while already to hlpe me keep track of things done.

It would be helpful we could have a central resource to keep track of all the misc FFXI data. Things like which outpost missions a person has done, conquest points, which weather effects have been gathered for SMN, things like that.

The quest log piece if a bit annoying to look over, because each quest takes up two lines, the completed part could go next to the name instead of bulleted underneath it.

Overall I like it very much and it's already been extremly helpful. I have it pulled up on another screen while browsing the AH so I can compare new equipment to my old equipment.

Having a lot of problems looking at the profiles, thought I'd post the error for you and see if it was something that made sense to ya.

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

The system cannot locate the resource specified. Error processing resource 'http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/profile_normal.xsl'.

Thanks!

This profile thing is great. Unfortunately, it doesn't represent my character as a ranger at all. I really hope you are able to make some of these changes I have to offer. Firstly, many rangers use bow and crossbow, like me. Many of them use bow, crossbow, and gun, which I will be doing at level 34 when I get the Serpentine Gun, but none of the bullets are in the database.

This brings me to my next point, which is that there is no ammo at all. I use beetle arrows and poison arrows (when acting as debuffer) when using bow and acid (defense down), blind, and sleep bolts when using crossbow, acting as debuffer. I believe you should try to come up with some way for people to see the types of ranged weapons rangers use and all the types of ammo as well. If you need information and pics for the ammo I'll be glad to send this information to you.

Nice!

We should have the ability to not display our attack, defense, and gil, since they're so annoying to update all the time. Entering 0 for these should work.

Thanks!

Wow, I am stuned in amazment over the profile system. The only thing I haven't seen which I think would rock is to have the profile system automaticly update somehow. I know I asking alot for that, but think about it, all you would do is log on to the site, click a button, and "BAMM!!", it would somhow syncronize with our account through Play Online and update everything. Like I said, that's asking alot, but other then that, awsome job!!!

We did have someone look at the feasibility of this... At the moment it doesn't look like it'd be feasible to pull the data from memory or from the packet stream like the everquest itemcollector on our EQ site is able to do. I'm not aware of a public place on POL's site to get character info either. (wish they did, we could offer an import option...)

Now, I'm sure someone (or more than one someone) probably could find a way... But for the moment, manual entry does work well. ^^

I just tried loading your profile, and it comes up ok; also checked the file http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/profile_normal.xsl and it's there.

Does this happen every time? What browser + version are you using?

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/dyn/items/Ammo.html shows all the items flagged ammo slot in our DB. Both Beetle Arrow ( http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=2637 ) and Poison Arrow ( http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=3595 ) are listed. If they still aren't showing up in the profile menu for ammo slot, I'll try and find out why. I'd thought I'd fixed this already.

-- edit --
made a ranger and set level to 24, like yours is listed; beetle arrow shows up in the list, and also shows up by searching for just 'arrow'. Make sure you're not searching for 'arrows' - the item is singular in name (as well as on the screenshot that was attached).

Give it another try? if it's still causing problems, I'll make an exact copy of your profile data and try with that.

Also, I'm going to be adding inventory listing, so eventually you will be able to list things you carry with you - like other arrows or ammo types.

Also, more in general I thought I'd mention -

Item levels are checked against the level of your main job. If you're too low to wear an item, it won't list it even by searching for the name.

Changed the stylesheet to not display Gil/Attack/Defense when they're set to zero.

The profile system is great, I like the layout and the ease of use. Too bad it can't be automatically updated via the FFXI servers :)

Instruments appear to have all been tweaked to Range slot now.

#23Cymmina, Posted: Feb 27 2004 at 4:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Am I the only person *not* impressed? You use a database to store information to spit out in an XML format for people to read? Another example of using the wrong technology just because its "cool" or "the next big thing". XML is meant for machines to read, not people. Not only that, but parsing XML takes much longer than querying and parsing database results.

If you don't want to use the features the way they are set up now Cymmina, there is an easy solution.. don't. No one is forcing you to use the profile system, or to make it work.

Myself and many others are perfectly happy with the way it is setup. Just because they didn't design it the way you would in your apparently perfect world, doesn't mean they have to.

A lot of the times the companies who make MMORPGs frequent big fansites, like this one. If enough people post about something, there is a chance they could implement it in their systems. So please, don't tell people what to post about, it won't happen.

That I agree with, spells/songs/avatars, etc would be a nice addition for BLM/WHM/SUM, etc.
