Do you think it is still worth getting the strategy guide, or is it to out of date now? Will they ever come out with a new, updated version?

I'm sure they will, but why bother spending $15 on that book when you can spend $15 on printer paper and get the info you DO need?

It's okay as a reference, but I've found the online guides to be much more complete and accurate. If you don't have a second computer you'll probably get alot more use out of it (since FFXI doesn't like you alt-tabbing), just keep in mind that some of the info is wrong/incomplete, and it stops at level 50.

If you find it cheap I say buy it =)

Good reference. A few inconsistencies that I have seen between the web and the guide. Great if you don't have a second computer available. You can be like me and use the guide book for casual reading during downtime or when a computer is not available. I personally use the guide and web simultaneously when playing. I also use my companies laser jet color printer to print some nice maps and stuff so I can write notes and do my own layout.

Don't bother with the book unless you want it for mob strategy and weapon skillchain information.

I bought the strategy guide at the same time I bought the game, that's been two months now. While I will say that there is some outdated information, and certainly some parts of the game aren't even discussed, but I still find it indespensible. Spell lists up to 50 for each job are great, saves a lot of time over flipping through the AH to figure out what my next spell is. Not to mention that (for Bard Songs, for instance) some items are given a description whereas as there isn't even on in the game. The area guide for mobs found in an area, and printed maps inside are very handy, as well, especially when I'm doing something like giving someone directions but I'm not in the same area as them. I have discovered that the guide also has a few recipes not found on the web, yet. It gives a fairly detailed description of the first few missions (up to rank 4) for each country, as well. There are a few reiken charts out there that are a little better than the one in the book, but most people already have an idea of what works and what doesn't. The book includes hardcopies of the elemental, animal family, and stellar charts, which I haven't found anywhere else. All in all, I say it's a few useful book, I'm just hoping they'll be making a fresh release soon to cover Outlands and Expansion territories, and hopefully add in a few more recipes I'm still looking for. Also, I won't need it yet, but the book won't help really for inforamtion on characters or areas past level 50, and since we go to 75 now, there is some room left for detail.

My standard resources are as follows:

Strategy Guide Fall 2003
/command quickfind card
Recipe list I have printed (assembled from many different sources)
Quest Log I have printed (assembled again from many sources)
Japanese phrases list (constantly revised)
Reinken Chart
Gardening Log (assembled from a few diffrent sources)
A pen and a pad of post-its (I write tips and dialogue as I come across them in-game)

Great read for when you're sitting on cold porcelain for 15-30 minutes.

And the bestiary is great for easy reference to lvl 1-52 mobs.

I say get it if you can afford it. I bought it mainly for the trade skilling recipies (easier than looking on the web for them) and a few other things. It's served me well.

It's especially great if you're on dialup, as taking the time to look things up on dialup is often horribly slow...

I say go for it, even if you use it in conjunction with the web.
