Why choose Hume over Mithra?Follow

#1 Jan 06 2004 at 4:28 PM Rating: Default
I made a Hume when this game was first released in the U.S. I made a Female Hume to go with my fiancee's Male Hume, even though I had kind of wanted to make a Mithra (the tail just adds so much to the personality). Now my Bard is lvl 44, whm is 36, and various other jobs are between 6 and 18, and I still wish I had a tail, not to mention dex and agi for when I go DRG/THF and NIN/RDM or RDM/NIN (even though I still love playing Bard ^^). Please tell me, why would anyone choose Hume over Mithra? I either need reasurance in my original choice, or decisive evidence to push me to start over again (even though I have Rank 5 *sniff sniff*). Let me know what you guys think

Fantasia - Female Hume Bastokan Rank 5
44/36 BRD/WHM, and dabbler in all other jobs

P.S. I'm a girl in RL so Mithra gender doesn't bother me

Hume is suppose to be a Jack of All Trade type class, we are so so in every way, not as weak as taru/miths nor as strong as galka/elvs, and the only difference i think (not sure on this) is Humes has the Highest Charisma from what i was told... I guess hume makes the best bst/brd.... and if you plan to switch from job to job to job every once in a while which then Hume should have about the same potency in each job unlike galka/tarus where tarus get pummeled in melee and galkas don't make good mages

for starters, in almost every job, mithra are neck-and-neck with humes as far as strength goes. galka don't have nearly as much strength as elvaan, since their strong suit is really vitality. get your facts straight, buddy.

How about getting your facts straight first?

level 50 elvaan warrior strength: 54

Level 50 galka warrior strength: 52

It's not that big of a difference. The reason I used 50 is because for some reason I can't use the level 70 status calculator anymore

As for the subject of this forum...

I would suggest paying an extra dollar a month and just start a mithra. That way, you could play the mithra, and you'd still have the bard for when you want to play with your husband. But if you don't wana do that, then I gota say that I see no reason to be a hume over mithra as far as statistics go. Humes get higher charisma, but what's that really good for?

Most significant difference - Humes have higher Charisma than Mithra, making it the superior choice for Bard & Beastmaster.

Other than that .. HP and MP are equal. VIT/STR are slightly higher in favour of Humes, making them slightly better at tanking - also, a Hume's MND is a bit higher, making them better White Mages. However, the DEX of Mithras is unsurpassed, making them awesome Thieves - and their AGI is high as well, making them great Rangers and Ninjas.

So under normal conditions, Humes 'd make better BRD, BST and WHM, and Mithras better THF, RNG and NIN. The other jobs are debatably equal.

For reference, Summoner stats at lv 70 for both races (taken randomly from some FAQ somewhere, edited because Allakhazam screws up spacing) ~

Hume - Mithra

765 - 765
647 - 647
46 - 42 (+4 in favour of Hume)
50 - 62 (+12(!) in favour of Mithra)
46 - 42 (+4 in favour of Hume)
54 - 62 (+8 in favour of Mithra)
62 - 62
62 - 58 (+4 in favour of Hume)
62 - 54 (+8 in favour of Hume)

[EDIT] obligatory comment before somebody starts complaining about me omitting it - yes, the difference between the two races is mostly next to nothing, and any race can do any job good, if not perfectly. Still, everything I said holds ground - in the case of Bard/Beastmaster, Hume is superior, and in Ninja/Ranger/Thief Mithra is superior, based off racial stats.

Well #1 Mithras are females, i would be a mithra if they had males =). Dont like role-playing as a female!

#2 after lvl 30'sh 50'sh the diff between Mithra and Hume will dissappear because of all the +stats items you will buy/find/get.

As a Hume you will make up your Dex+Agi if you want to and as Mithra you will buy stuff to increase your damge(STR) and Defence(VIT). Unless your happy with what you have already and want to make it even stronger =/

So the only diff. is when you start the game upto lvl 14 when you can buy +Stat rings and then it gets alot more even =)

Heh, one big problem with that statement.... a Hume with a slur of +DEX equipment may come close to a Mithra's DEX, but a Mithra with that +DEX equipment leaves the Hume far behind. So for jobs that specialise in a single stat, like how Bards or Beastmaster focus on CHA, going with the choice race still gives you an advantage over the other.

I say pay the extra dollar and start a Mithra. Success in a game like this depends more on the player than the character to tell you the truth. The two mages I prefer to party with the most are a Mithra and a Elvaan simply due to the fact that I know they will keep me alive in bad situations. The worst mage I have ever partied with was a Taru. When I got ready to make a character I went in and looked at every visual combo I could until I picked a Hume that I liked. I had already decided on the initial job I wanted (monk)and that played no part in my picking my race. If ya really want a Mithra then make one :).

Well, if I were you, I'd be making a new character... this one has been tained by Bastokan ways, yuck! :p

j/k

Seriously though, from what it sounds like, you have chosen the right race for your character. You enjoy playing multiple types of jobs that use different attributes, so if you dont want to be compensating with expensive gear every time you switch, hume is for you. On the other hand, I am a firm believer that you should play what you want over what is "best". It's your character so don't let any stats page tell you what's best for you.

Truth be told, just about any stat differences can be made up for with gear later on... just because the stat calculators tell you that one race has 12 more dex or whatever over another at lvl 70 doesnt meen that every lvl 70 character is going to have that same shortcomming. Those who start the lower end (stat wise) job/race combos can easily end up more than compensating for the difference with gear modifiers. Not everyone can have the same gear, and the people who are truely attached to their characters seem to have an easier time blazing through the impossible quests that give you that "edge" gear.

As I ramble on, point is... play what you like, and what you liek only. Obviously you like your hume enough that you've kept her around this long, why not keep her around as your Bard, then create your Mithra and do whatever you want with it... but for goodness sakes, please choose a different starting country!! :D

I play a Hume but only because I like the way they look and are not stereotyped into certain jobs. My second character is a Tataru Monk... Why.. Because They look REALY Cool! First tataru I grouped with was a Ninja/Monk. I will never forget how much fun he was to group with. I'm realy debating about a Galka Black Mage. More for the comical factor but I have also found that while the diffrance in stats and ability at lower level are daunting the diffrances higher up are not as great as you may think. My wifes Mithra Black is just as welcome and useful in groups as some of the tataru blacks we have met. And she loves her character and seems to play it better than many of the anyoing point-counter-power-gamers whos arogence has killed us many times.

Like someone said before... You cant be a guy Mithra.

#14 Jan 21 2004 at 4:13 AM Rating: Default
One thing humes have over mithra is STR and VIT. They are a bit more suited to melee classes than mithra, while mithra get more DEX and AGI for support and evasion based classes like theif and ninja, respectively. Humes have a bit more MND as well, giving them an edge as WHM.

I compared my stats at level 40 drk with a mithra lv.40 drk to come up with the above conclusion, both wearing the same gear.

Hume is better rounded, and as it has been stated humes have better cha.

Between the 2, Humes have better Cha, also the Mp pool is higher and I belive thier HPs are as well. Once they get up there The Hume melee stats are about equil with the Mithra ( Humes take hits just a little better and a just a tad stronger where mithra avoid hits better and hit enemies more often). As it goes, Bards and Beastmasters Hume has the stat advantage to a point, and the Mithra has it for the Ninja and the Thief.

From your post it still dosn't look like you sure what you want to be when your character is all grown up, so I would sugjest staying with the Hume because its a safer bet for the all around package. If you need stat adjustments go for gear that fixes that for ya. (unless you absolutly have to have the tail). But those are alot of lvls to regain if you go kitty.

Though at one point I was a bit angry that my Hume Sam seems almost obsolete compared to my Mithra friends Sam (he hit like 90% of the time), I now believe that race really doesn't matter, and the way you play is the defining factor for success in your job of choice. I recently came to this conclusion when I partied with the absolute greatest whm EVER...he was a lvl 17 Galka with no sub. For some reason he managed to always keep everyone in the party not only alive, but darn comfortable, even when fighting IT Damselflies and Gobs in Valkurm.

All around it's just personal race preference. I just recently purchased the Balance ring and another dex enhancing ring, and my hume's hitting more (seemingly) than my Mithra counterpart. If some stats aren't satisfactory, buy new gear.

I know I’m just reiterating what’s already been said, but I felt compelled to share ;P

I have met quite a few players on Carbuncle server who play as a Mithra and "Role Play" that their Mithra is one of the rare Male Mithras I have also come across players playing as a Female Galka. It all depends on how you look at it I guess.

I really didn't choose my character, but I'm glad I ended up with a hume (randomly chose my character and stuck with the end results) I have all jobs in the game and intend to play them all at least til I get them to lvl 10... then maybe even lvl 30. So I say for those of you who want to try a little bit of everything, Hume's make the best Sampler Tray for Jobs.

I choose human over mithra solely because I do not want to spend all my time being a female character. I do not want guys flirting with me because they think I am a real female. That would really rick me off over-time.

People role-playing as Male Mithra? FEMALE Galka? DAMN, what's the world coming to. Are those people blind or what.

I say stay with your human, since you've played her for so long and have rank 5 already. Don't wanna waste months of play time, would you?
