How to Adjust UI for Larger MonitorFollow

I'm using an ASUS monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1080. The main issue I'm having is not being able to resize the spell bar which is teeny on this resolution. I've tried various resolutions from the in-game video selector and either see no change or a huge, fuzzy screen on the lower resolutions. I can resize most other elements of the UI but the spell bar is an issue.

Any work-arounds, ideas, alternate UIs, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks!

I think you need a custom UI for this. You can increase chat font with the command /chatfontsize but since you can't chat in a spellbar window, this won't work. There are lots of custom UI's out there. I think there are links in the wiki here. I stopped using custom UI's years ago because they can get broken by a patch and sometimes the one you've become accustomed to stops being supported.

Thing is, my resolution is the same as yours and I have none of this problem. Might be a monitor issue?

I assume that you are using the default UI? The best thing to do is make a new folder in your uifiles folder for a custom UI. You can then download a custom spell bar at eqinterface.com. To find the spell bars, click on the Downloads link on the left, interface pieces, and then spell bar. Then find the spell bar you like, download it and then unzip it if it's zipped up and stick the xml file in that custom ui folder you made. In game, ALT O to open the options window, on the general tab click on the Load UI Skin button and choose the custom ui folder you made. That will load the spell bar you downloaded.

Now hopefully the spell bar you downloaded is up to date and it loads. You'll come across some that haven't been updated in years.

You can also download a completely custom ui from that same site as well, I would stick to either the featured ui's or complete sets, they are usually updated. There are many great UI authors that still keep their UI's up to date. My ui is a mix of different authors pieces and some completely built by myself. If you want to customize your window pieces, let me me know I can can show you what to do.

Thank you both for your great responses. I was using the default UI but I did start looking around for custom UIs and am currently using one called Krome by Sha`Kahr. I happened upon a fantastic YouTube video on tips for setting up the default UI. At the end of the video the author then switched to the Krome as a demonstration. I'm enjoying that one thus far although a couple of the handles to move a few elements is a bit fiddly. The spell bar is still fairly small but placing them on the hot key bar helps as I can resize that.

I would be interested in other suggestions for UIs, either posted here or pm if preferable. Anyone remember the very first UI? I am tempted to try that one out (saw it on the UI site) for fun.

Do you mean the original UI at game launch? Even back in 1999 that thing was f u n k y. It was a throwback to standard RPG interfaces from the early 90's. In fact I remember thinking that the first time I logged into EQ. It was like watching a move at the theater while wearing a scuba mask! Hah.

Here's an old RPG screenshot:

Yep, that's the one! I began playing EQ just after the release of Kunark. Except for the really small playing window (of course I was also using a CRT at the time) it was a lot simpler. I can't recall when the newer UI was released and even then it didn't seem like there were as many parts as there are now. Of course we didn't have mercs, or AAs, or...a lot of things. Smiley: laugh

Boy. I'm as nostalgic and "old school" as they come and even I didn't really like the original UI. It felt very constrained!

EQ was the first MMO I ever played so I didn't have anything with which to compare it. Smiley: grin

I'm trying to remember what expansion came out that necessitated a lot of us to upgrade our video cards...Luclin maybe? My guild leader said, "I just spent $50 to upgrade my PC for a $20 game (expansion)." I thought that was so funny.

That would be Luclin which gave us the expression "Luclin models", which were redesigns of a lot of races requiring better video cards to display effectively.
