Well I am back to EQ yet again and want a direction to go in. I have a box team that runs from 85-93(dru,mag,sham,chan/bard). Cant decide which class is better bard or chanter...... Anyways I am wanting to be productive and do some questing/progression but have no clue where to start. I usually just go to an area and kill stuff and rinse and repeat until I get bored and move on. I have came to the realization that EQ will never be the same and I am only going to get out of EQ what I put in. So with that being said where is nice place to start..... I would like to do at least the druid 1.0 epic because it is my favorite.

I really don't care for endgame content (what I would consider 80+) Its just so blasted boring, slow, and tedious. About all I do is roll new toons get them to 50ish and do their epic (sometimes). I have really tried and I feel like unless you want to run a box army or are really social your not going to do much past 80 except kill the same crap over and over again for hours on end for minimal exp. The only guild or PUG groups I ever see are basically max levels looking for people they allready know to do current expansion progression. ITs hard to enjoy a game that takes months of grinding to reach max level when you basically have to do it solo.

I think thats why I enjoyed Ragefire so much at first. I rolled an enchanter and I could pop /lfg on or ask in general and more often than enough within a few minutes I had a invite to a group. Even when playing a pure dps class it wasn't that hard to get a group during the day. Sure it was basically sitting at a camp killing similar things over and over again but it was with a group and more often than enough there was a good chance at something worth plat dropping. I feel like on live servers there are few things pre max level you are going to find that both give valuable loot AND exp. Most of the time when grinding you barely make enough plat to cover the merc costs.

There's a few good entry points depending on what you like to do:

1. Live server, go to Povar server and join Unholy Czars. Very large family guild that takes care of its own.

2. Fippy server, join the one raiding guild and be a part of accomplishing that.

3. Phinigel server has very active grouping most levels 1-60 still. Healers and tanks seem to do the best in pick-up groups. I'd get in a guild. Similarly Ragefire and Lockjaw could work. That's if you enjoy progression.

4. Look up the "Guilds recruiting" part of the official boards and find something that fits your vision. EQ requires comrades to truly progress.

5. Or set content goals that don't require friends (i.e., playing characters to 65 in pre OoW zones on any live server and doing epic 1.0 for example.

6. FV server can ease your progression due to the loot code (no drop raid stuff is not no drop there), but make sure you like the other aspects as it's a one-way transfer in.

There are other options of course, just giving a few.

Click on the achievements tab and pick out some from an xpac suitable to the level of your box group. Achievements have revived my interest in the game as a boxer. The tasks give excellent XP, usually, and there are decent rewards for successful completion. And if you complete a full "set" of achievements there are extra rewards, sometimes REALLY nice, like large bags and excellent augments. I view achievements as the equivalent, roughly speaking, of the original epic quests, except even better since you receive rewards each step of the way, rather than waiting to complete the long-winded quest.

Check them out. You'll find something suitable to your level, challenging and potentially rewarding.

If you want to level with the least pain:

1) Wait til double exp weekends.
2) Take off from work.
3) Grab some caffeine.
4) Set Exp to AA: 100% to regular exp with AA autogrant on
5) Grind Dead Hills/Gribbles HAs til you pass out.

After the weekend you should be close to max level with very nice AA.

I play DRU/MAG/ENC and find it works quite well, and doesn't drive you crazy to make it work.

I have very little play time, so I concentrate on HA's (mostly, but not exclusively DH), and Teek/Hot Zone quests (or, I did til I hit 100). The main reason is, I can do an HA, and activate Lesson before the hand-in, and then complete the first DH HA (Into the Hills) before Lesson expires, so I can maximize XP gain with the relatively small amount of time I play. With just 2-3 play sessions a week, I'm still closing in on max level/AA (starting at 92 a year ago). It's not boring, because I don't play often. If I played more, I'd mix in a lot of progression and other stuff (but then, I'd be max level already, so no point in grinding).

It's the opposite of fun. See my post above for real fun!

This. There's basically two broad things you do in EQ:

1. Fun things. Stuff like Sippin mentioned. Achievements, collections, trade skills, etc (I also like to do the Bayle's Crest thing with my characters btw). These things tend to not advance your characters much, especially in terms of exp/AA. But they do help you learn more of the zones and the lore of the game, and are "fun".

2. Productive stuff. Another word for this is "grind". Basically, to gain levels and abilities in any reasonable amount of time, you have to more or less do the same exp gaining stuff (ie: killing stuff) over and over (hence: "grind"). It sucks, but as mentioned, you can offset that somewhat by taking advantage of lesson burns if you have them, use exp pots, and time long grind sessions when there's double exp weekends. Also, finding good hunting spots helps (hence the comment about DH HAs).

I personally like to just hop on, grind out a HA or two (time depending) and then, once lesson is expended, go spend an hour or so doing the "fun" stuff. It seems to break up the monotony quite a bit. Of course, if I'm right in the middle of some series of achievement/progression quests, I may forgo exp grind to just do that (especially if I'm short of time). Alternatively, on bonus exp days, I may just focus on exp instead. And then, there's days when other members of my guild are around and have "a plan" (usually at least somewhat fun), I go do that instead. Actually, the latter happens most days I log on. Which I'm totally not complaining about.

I disagree that achievements can't produce as much advancement potential as heroic adventure grinds. For example, read my posts in the CotF progression guide. Some of those tasks were earning my entire group (6 toons) as much as 50 AA's per completion, a task that rarely required more than 2 hours. And they're repeatable. Granted the really HIGH AA's required LotD and took place during XP-bonus holidays. But even with no XP enhancements you can earn 15 AA's in a group by completing a mission that takes under 3 hours AND advances your toon in terms of progression. Completing entire sets of achievements can give you the previously stated extra rewards which are particularly valuable on "regular" servers since those bags and augments aren't usually tradeable there.

I spent about a week awhile back grinding heroic adventures and, frankly, I marvel at players who can keep that up. Frankly, those are absolutely more a chore than a fun game. The irony is some of the HA's are actually part of progression arcs so might as well do the rest of the arc rather than (excuse the term) "mindlessly" grind out the same mission day after day.

And this comes from a player, me, who has always been focused on advancing his toons rather than stopping to "smell the roses." With the progression tasks you can achieve both.

The progression stuff that grants good exp usually requires a decent sized group though. I kinda veered into solo/molo stuff there. Honestly though, some of that perception on my part is that I tend to go back and run through older content. There's a pretty large chunk of expansions (most of it with the more "modern" progression tasks) that I didn't do when new because I wasn't playing at the time. So it's all "new" to me, and fun to do, but no way am I dragging a group of people to run through old DoN stuff, for example. And since it's so old, it's not going to grant any exp.

While I can't speak for most folks grinding out HAs, I know that in my case, I do the sets, but if I'm going to go back and grind, I'll pick the one or two in a set that are easiest/fastest. More bang for the buck there. Oh. And I always check guard whatshisname for the daily specials. Sometimes you get one that you would have done anyway, so it's just more bonus exp.
