I am not getting this but it could easily be a browser or addon/extension specific error. Any *.js file is a script that usually the site is trying to run for valid reasons. But since that particular file is only 1 byte, it's probably just an error. There isn't much script you can code in 1 byte.

I got the same thing a few days ago when the site was acting up. I'm fairly certain that was the reason I saw it trying to download the javascript file.

I know the site loads slow sometimes and sometimes not at all. Sorry for this guys, I don't have any control over that as all I can do is add content. I have no access to server side stuff, that's for the ZAM employees. We've been in contact with them regarding issues lately and we've been told they would be assigning resources to the site. We hope to have some of these issues ironed out "soon".

Right now those "resources" appear to be about a 1200 baud modem (who else remembers those days? oh sorry dating myself again).
Trying to browse through the forum but after 2-3 pages of 15+ seconds to load, nah I'll check back later.
Same problem as the DDOS that has been plaguing the everquest servers, perhaps?

~edit~ ok perhaps it's an intermittent thing? I only just finished posting this and the times suddenly went back to normal.
Wasn't doing anything else on my computer and husband's usage was typical, hadn't affected any other page loads...well let's hope it stays fixed.
I (and my husband) play everquest on & off, but when we do play, we keep a zam sub going, it's just too inconvenient to look stuff up elsewhere, and Zam always has
everything we need, always has.

The site is having problems at the moment so I'm sure this is why you are seeing this file popup to be downloaded. I've emailed ZAM to look into why the site is loading slowly.

It's often slow to load a page for me, but I never seen the download action you mention. Might be something with just your system.

Note: I do run with AdBlockPlus

What I get about every third time I post is a long delay, then something about a error processing this directive. Then I have to usually wait a few minutes and reload the site and the navigate back to wherever I was. Attempting to just refresh the page (and go directly to the post I just made) never works. Honestly, this has been going on for months now (many many months). Just assumed it was the usual gremlins.

I pointed that out to them as I have been experiencing the same thing for a while. Hopefully they can get that fixed soon.

Edit: Just experienced the same thing when I posted this. I've already emailed the error to them however.

Im posting and visiting this site for the last time , till someone fixes this site. I have been using alla for the past 10 yrs no problem. The last 3 months im getting pop ups to download files, which i posted at the top of this thread. Now im getting booted off the site and my antivirus is kicking on saying I have a virus. I only use this computer dedicated for EQ and Alla. I dont do nothing else on this comp , as i have others in the house for different uses. So im not going to get a virus from EQ period. Someone is hacking into this site and this needs to be addressed or im saying goodbye to Alla period. Thank You. I'll look for a reply if nothing is done quickly im moving over to eqresources which sucks imo but its safe... p.s. as I was writing this a pop up comes up about an add saying I need to call microsoft to remove this virus. I can tell you my computer is clean , its this Fkn web site

Looks like im going to have to invest in printer paper and start copying important quests to me.
I wonder if this site is comming to an end like EQMAPS did back in the day. I have a couple of binders of printed maps from them and im glad I did that as you know that web site is gone. Guess im gonna have to do the same here. What a shame.

I don't doubt you are having issues. I find it odd, though, since I have absolutely zero issues with this website, and I visit it everyday, at home and at work.

Im glad that your not experiencing these problems, but im clearly not the only one having this problem , as the Admin and others acknowledge the problem, but let it go on for months without any clear reason why its happening /shrug

Just a thought...

Have you tried the website in different browsers? Does it happen regardless of the browser used?

I don't know if investigating different browsers will offer a solution, but is perhaps worth trying. I use Firefox at both home and work. At home, however, I also use the add-on "NoScript". It blocks website scripting and cross-site scripting with the ability to allow websites that you trust or forbid ones you don't. It blocks a lot of ads as well as preventing scripts that cause pop-ups. It does have some drawbacks, however. Such as some content not being displayed properly, especially when you are not sure which website to allow for the content. I find it a useful add-on, regardless of its down side.

Hopefully this information is helpful in some way.

You may not be the only one, but I doubt you're in the majority. I see none of those issues, across three different computers.

And I thought the issue they acknowledged was the slow to post/slow to load forums issue. Most all of us HAVE seen that issue over the last several months. But it comes and goes, it's not constant.

You are aware that it's possible to get a virus via means other than connecting to a website, right? I can't say that there is no potential for a virus to slip in via Alla, but I'm not aware of any other people complaining about this specifically. The usual disconnects and timeouts, sure, but pop up ads putting viruses on their systems is not in any way a rampant problem on this site. I connect to this site from my work computers (which honestly isn't a very good test for several reasons), and from home (pretty regularly, when looking up quest or NPC details while playing). I've never once had problem with a virus from this site.

Again, not to say it's impossible, but you might want to check to make sure nothing else is going on with your system.

What anti virus program are you using? I use Norton Security, Spybot and Malwarebytes and none of these have triggered on this site. Then again I use Chrome with Adblock Plus so I don't see any ads even when I'm not logged in. It's possible you might see malware pop up with advertisements. We can fix that if that's the case, we just need to know.

1. Download malwarebytes
2. Reboot in safe mode
3. RunWalwarebytes.
4. ???
5.Profit. Unless that doesn't work (unlikely) then you have bigger issues.

I got an virus from Alla's exactly once in 9-10 years of use and that was from clicking a link in a post.

I got a virus maybe 7 years ago, buddy got one maybe 4 years ago, from ads here.

That said, it was a corrupted ad script that got us both, I"m sure.

Switched to Google Chrome and Adblock and haven't had an issue from any site since. I'd highly suggest doing that.

This site is a daily read/check for many, so I'm sure you can get it fixed. Good luck with your issues!

This tends to be more of a browser issue rather than a website issue. What browser are you using?
#22 Aug 05 2016 at 8:24 AM Rating: Excellent
Once in a blue moon, the site will act up on me, like giving me a 503 error. Sometimes waiting an hour or so, it eventually resolves itself.

Also, clearing browser cache for me helps.

One of the reasons I use Google Chrome as my primary browser is because the Chrome browser does not support NPAPI plug-ins and doesn't run all java content, meaning less script failures, hanging processes, crashes and often less annoying java download popups which are common with FireFox. The only downside to Chrome is it can be a resource hog, but overall I find it to be a more stable platform for web surfing.

The real question is why is ZAM using moneybroker?
<script id="ad-provider-MonkeyBroker" src="//d3pkae9owd2lcf.cloudfront.net/mb105.gz.js"></script>

After reading the source code for the monkey broker, what it looks like is MB clients ( people who have product to sell ) actually have 2.5 seconds to bid on weather or not they want to be in the selection for showing your their ad. I am sure the MB client software is all automated to make that decision based on criteria the client selects, but it still takes time for the clients to report into the MB server before MB server selects and shows you an ad. It does not look like the adds are all loaded at the same time, so you can view one and read it and then see another one load. This means you have numerous 2.5 seconds pauses on the page loading. Now every ad has its own html and javascripts to process which if they are not hosted locally slows down the process even more.

Now here is the weird thing,
IF your browser is using an ad blocker, the ads will not display BUT you still have to wait for the script to run. That's why you see the ZAM page jump every 2.5 seconds.

Monkey Broker makes money by the clients bidding for that chance.
ZAM makes money when Zam users click the ads. The ad sizes change on every load so that your mouse might click the ad! Yes there is 6 different size ad spaces!

I hope whoever made the decision at ZAM to use MB actually knows what the software is actually doing.

Intersting read of its history here

Who ever is coding the MB site Adserver.js and client.js files has errors!
Who ever is coding the actual ZAM site needs to look at line 1 of ca.html
It made me laugh <html><body><html>
They never close </body> and they open <html> twice

There is 56 critical errors on the main www.zam.com site mostly relating to **** poor programming of Monkey Broker.
main ones are in this picture

I wouldn't call those "critical errors". Websites with automated scripts and ads get not found messages all the time when loading up (for a host of reasons). Your client should be able to handle that without any major issues. In a perfect world, there should be no errors or warnings in any code. In the real world, the cost to eliminate such things often exceeds the dollar value of doing so.

You're free to volunteer your time helping the ZAM folks debug and clean up though. I'm sure many of us would appreciate it! :)

Volunteer admins don't have access to any of the code or any of the files or database back behind the scenes. All we have access to is to add content via scripts. Only certain ZAM employees can change code on any of the ZAM sites.

If you see ads that are abnormally large and block any of our content, please let me or any of our other admins know so we can pass along the information. Or you can contact ZAM's customer support. Please take a picture of the site with that ad in place so we can identify which ad it is that is causing the problem.
