Thanks to some excellent help in my earlier thread I'm up and running with 7 new characters on FV.

Learning from the ground up has helped a lot and finding some of my memories have been rendered obsolete has also been fun - of a sort. I got my druid through the Adventure stone Q so I could get to the Queen of Thorns and do my free tradeskill quests only to find it is all set up much more easily in Crescent reach.

Some memories just got lost. I do now definitely remember swearing I would never, ever again level a char without practicing spell skills every level so I didn't end up casting Skin like Fizzle, Spirit of Fizzle or Ring of Fizzle. I forgot. On the bright side a Clarity lasts forever in the Guild Lobby so it is the ideal place to torment one's betters with spell-spam.

I found that making a guild is now simple and doesn't need 37 people signing in blood. Smiley: smile

My original 1-per-account chars on FV haven't really been out except for an odd bit of porting or buffing for the youngsters.

If I wanted to try and figure out what happens at higher levels where would be a sensible place to take a 66 cleric to molo. Is it even possible? He is wearing a random mix of what was reasonable in 2004 when we were raiding PoP and GoD zones. I gather that Defiant runs out before 60 so what should he be looking to upgrade into?

I assume that trying to molo at that level is going to need a higher quality merc than the F2P variety?

I think I need to start subscribing again anyway, even if only on a single account, to get some kind of revenue stream going.

/TLDR
Having a blast. What do I do next Smiley: smile

Cherry picking targets any class can mercenary up to 85. Based on forum posts... sounds like it is viable to 100 as well, but that "cherry picking" thing...

Defiant comes in many tiers, and there is more after 66. You can /claim a set of armor but it scales to your level... so most people wait till 75 to claim this iirc.

Playing on FV you will have access to old raid gear that is extremely good.

The "newer" reverse damage shield line of cleric spells allow the class to do a lot of things they weren't really known for in the past... like hunting older named.

If your gear is really out of date... do the level 40's Goru'kar Mesa quest chain from the Serpent's Spine Expac. Also note, TSS zones have easy con for the level mobs in many places, and usually at least one high value vendor drop on trash mobs... so you can build up plat decently. The Steppes and Blackfeather Roost would both offer decent XP at 66, just beware some of the odd effects the harpies cast that knock you down (so you have to stand up). TSS expac was a level 1-75 expac with quests and gear all the way up --it's a good way to get back into the game as a F2P player, just wears thin by alt #3 for me.

Check the loyalty vendor in PoK. You have a bunch of old accounts you may have loyalty points sitting there. You can claim bags of platinum... (maybe not on F2P accounts?).

Welcome back, glad to hear you are having fun.

The bags of plat are only on paid accounts however you can claim the golden tickets and its usually easy to find a player willing to buy those from you.

I wouldn't spend alot of time doing quests for low lvl gear just buy some defiant gear. I think at 66 you want elaborate defiant. IF you can't afford it the next step down would be Intricate and below it would be flawed. Even flawed defiant is still going to be better than about anything else you find in the 60's.

If you do the hotzone quests you can fill in your cloak/shoulder/waist slots. They are outside of the guildhall and pretty easy (kill 5 enemys in a zone). At 66 the hotzone you want will be Drundar Fortress of Zek. I was able to solo (well molo with a app5 cleric merc) using my 66 monk with no issues. Even if I got an add the app5 cleric was able to keep me healed no problem. You might even pick up the level 55 and 60 hotzone quest as they will still reward you with gear, plat, and a decent chunk of exp.

You might want to learn how to swarm with the cleric solo (no merc) for fun. Pick up a https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=12657 from Grieg's End. I'm not sure about level 66 but this might be perfect to go to Infected Paw. If the mobs are blue this will work very well. You set up with a ward (ward of vengeance line) spell and a vow (vow of valor - level 71 might be the first in this line) spell. Put on a HoT, cast the promised line for your level and pull a couple. Yaulp, then switch to the hammer. You can add a reverse damage shield like mark of the righteous. The reverse damage line turns into an added heal proc later on. The hammer is a free DA proc that you can supplement with DA AAs and DA spells. Your damage procs continue through the DA and your promised heal takes you back to full health by the time DA fades. It's been a while but I know I did 70-80 in paw like this with no trouble at all.

You will want to set up a bandolier to switch the hammer in and out. You want to prevent an unwanted DA proc after you get one so you have time to recast your promised, refresh yaulp, ward & mark.

I remember reading a guide on how to do this, maybe on eqclerics? Once you get the hang of it - it's not difficult at all.

Gear wise, I think I was in glowing othni at 70 which drops during hardcore heritage. You have time to put together an Abstruse set by the time you hit 80

Thanks for all the advice.

I went into the bazaar for some retail therapy and emerged 15k later in mostly intricate or elaborate defiant. Curiously some of my slots couldn't be bettered within my budget
I then realised that my latter days of raiding had been spent on 100% exp trying desperately not to lose a level. I had none of the AAs needed to use the gear I just bought! No Planar power or Innate whatsit. My WIS was potentially 440 but I was capped at 285 Smiley: frown . Also my stats say mana regen 19 but when I add up the items it should be more. Have I run into another cap and is there an AA I need to get out of it?

Anyways I tried the 55,60, and 65 hot zone quests.
I'm very glad I started on the 55 in The Deep. I had a lot to relearn. It was educational and paid for itself. Obviously the drops of Luclin quest junk continue unabated.

The 60 was in Blackfeather Roost which was an entirely new zone and I had to do quests to get to the mobs I needed. The battle is mostly not between me and the mobs but between me and my mana pool. And it paid very well.

I haven't finished the 65 one yet as I don't know the zone (Drunder) and I ended up able to see the boars I needed but without a path to get to them. I think if I go back with a levi pot I should be good. Killing the giants was incredibly slow so don't know how much further I can go like this.

Anyway between the three adventures I made so many AA I now have 325 WIS Smiley: smile

I think I have that hammer, whether I have the skill to pull off what you describe is another matter. I have the Ward and the Mark and I don't recognise the Promise. Probably not got the spell yet. Back when I stopped the spells were all dropped and painful to get if you didn't do a lot of exp groups. Being able to buy them in PoK is a joy and a revelation.

Anyways thank you for making an old cleric very happy.

Sippin, Thanks for the offer., If you see a guild called <Living the Dream> its me.

You may want to sub for one month, click on "autogrant AA" in the AA tab. It will be a couple of hundred AA on the 66 cleric -all the baseline stuff like planar power.

Thanks Snailish,

I was coming to that conclusion. I've cancelled subs on a couple of other games so I can do so.

Not being able to sell in the bazaar was the big factor. The prospect of vendoring stuff for 40pp that I can see selling for 10 or 100 times that wasn't funny.

So I'll sub my cleric and see how it goes.

I don't understand the "AutoGrant" thing. I've seen the tickbox in the AA sheet but never knew what it did. How will it give me AAs I haven't earned?
Is there any choice involved or is it literally "auto"?

On another bewildering note, I did box two of my characters at the weekend and they went to Dalnir for the Hotzone Quest. No problems until the "advanced looting" cut in. What is this thing? I'd been generally impressed by the advanced looting window for solo play but it rapidly became unusable with a group of only two. Is there a guide or simple explanation of how it works somewhere? I was clicking icons at random and they did nothing. In the end I turned it off but that made life very difficult (or "old school" depending on viewpoint Smiley: smile).

It's literally "auto". It will grant you every AA your character has the ability to purchase, except for Tradeskill-related AAs (and maybe 1 other type). And it does it for free. It doesn't even cost any of the AA you have saved up. Also, the effect is not immediate. When you check the box, it will tell you what will happen, and when. Basically, the next time you log in from the character select screen, or the next time you level, you will be granted the AA. As a level 72 Enchanter I went from having ~460 AA to have ~1500 AA.

This. You can either buy the tradeskill stuff, or just stick with defiant all the way up to 80 (wouldn't bother with the expansion specific armor quests prior to that). Work on saving your pennies to that point, so you can buy the abstruse stuff. It's a *massive* jump. Also, you'll find a number of buyable weapons and whatnot in the bazaar right around that level range that will be huge improvements as well. I found that level 80 is about where the power progression really starts to ramp up. Of course, that's also about the same point where you'll find mercs failing to be as effective as an even decently played character, so there is that.

Well the AutoGrant gave me 975 AAs.
Planar Power obviously didn't rank highly so I only have 6/20 there and WIS is still capped at 365 but I now have full mana regen.

I haven't had time to figure out what else it thought I needed or indeed what it does.
I'll have to go places and kill stuff to find out.
Although if any of them need hotkeys ,making to use them I suppose that should be done first.

I'll look up that Abstruse set, Gbaji.

If you're taking auto grant AAs, go to your AA window and at the bottom filter by "can activate" and hotkey those, I play with a guy that autogrants and if it isn't passive, it isn't happening. They need to make some kind of pop-up to let you know you just bought "death touch rank 1" and you should use it now!

When you are granted the AAs, it provides you a full list of abilities you were granted in yellow text. Of course, it's a big ol massive list, so going through it and trying to figure out which ones you need to hotkey could be a pain. The ability to filter based on that quality is a massive help, and something everyone should do. I'm also loving that they just added in stuff like timer ID in there and made it sortable by that. Makes it that much more clear which sets of powers are grouped as being in the same/similar line.

I didn't know that (haven't autogranted anyone yet).

There is also a website (run by Crystilla from EMarr) that I use to figure out exactly what any given AA rank actually does. This has been a huge improvement over the in game descriptions of the next AA rank which make you wonder what benefit you would actually get.

www.eqaasearch.org

Probably doesn't matter on autogrant but there is good info there.

Don't forget the work users have put into the Wiki here at Zam .

Not sure how up to date it is with the newest content/changes, but there's a lot of work done here. --Pretty sure Yther did a lot of this.
