Hello.

Once upon a time I played EQ.

I came back for a while when Steam got involved.

I thought I might look in on my characters and say hi

The thing is I'm not sure how to get in any more.

My Steam account says I have Seeds of Destruction which is undoubtedly way behind the curve.
The new links go to the new Daybeak company.

I'm not particularly looking to buy vast numbers of expansions and some of the articles here are just downright scary to a guy who never figured out what shrouds were for.

So any advice on the easiest way to revisit the game would be very welcome.

I've probably been spoiled by too many simplified interfaces and iconoclastic innovations (like handing in quest items stacked!) to last very long but I wanted to see if nostalgia is still what it used to be.

For those who remember me, HI!
For those who don't, don't worry I'll be gone soon.

All accounts have up to CotF (2 exps old), even free accounts.

If you buy the latest expansion (TBM), it will include whatever ones you are missing.

So when my Steam finishes downloading SoD to the machine and I run it, will it just download the other expansions or do I need to go to the Daybreak site and download from there?

Not to mention I don't know where I hid my account passwords Smiley: frown

Almar's guides are good but he continually emphasizes boxing and if you aren't going to box it gets annoying fast. Paul Lynch (aka Borek-VS) also has some useful guides here http://www.paullynch.org/eqguide/

When I came back I found it very useful to do all of Secalna Galnor's tutorial "quests" covering everything from mercenaries to fellowships. She is in PoK near the Nexus stone. I would also recommend starting a new character and running it through the Glooming Deep tutorial. You can ditch the character anytime but it gives a decent review of some of the basics.

Good luck getting your account back.

Thanks.

I've got 3 back. The fourth seems to be generating an error message but I've more than enough to be getting on with.

I took the "Start a new character" route to get the latest tutorial. I think they may have broken some of the older tutorial bits but it all kind of works.

One thing that puzzled me. All races and classes get "Starting City: Crescent Reach". I suppose that since I'll be 10 before I break out of Gloomingdeep I've already passed the endless wasp swatting of Faydark or the mindless ratting of Freeport. But it did seem to set the character. I thought if I turned off the tutorial I'd get the options back but apparently not. I just get dumped in Crescent Reach at L1.

Now I don't want to sound like an ingrate. CR is a better implemented starter zone than the old ones. But nostalgia hey!

I played a new Drakkin last time I came back so I'd rather go back to Crushbone or EC if they still exist.

Thanks for all the help, especially the links to the guides. I won't be boxing this time round but they are still very useful.

Subscribers may select racial starting cities, free accounts are dropped to the mines/CR.

Grab a map pack here.

/claim for some level appropriate gear for your older characters. /veteran reward grants more stuff. Be aware, some rewards are granted on a one time basis - like clickies and mounts, so choose wisely.

If you have a paid membership, then for a good taste of nostalgia try a progression server like Phinigel. For free play account, just create a character and run it from Crescent Reach to the PoK book in adjacent zone of Blightfire Moors. I made a Wood Elf Ranger and ran them to GFay and had a blast. Still fell off the platforms in Kelethin after all these years lol.
