Well, technically not a new server as the char was created back in 2013, played to level 10 and left to mold for three years.

I have been sort of in a rut in EQ these past few months. I have been rotating chars on many servers, leveling 5 or so levels then moving on. I have also been doing the Iksar quests on non-Iksar chars as well. Bottom line is that it has kind of burned me out. A month or two ago, I was reviewing all my chars and trying to decide whether or not to delete several. During this process I found my "old" Troll Beastlord on the FV server. I had never played on this server. The BL was sitting in the tutorial zone. I decided to give it a go.

This server's philosophy is new to me and has been favourably growing on me these past few weeks. I love the fact that there are almost no No Trade items. When one char outgrows an item, pass it down. Love it!!! This should be a feature of all servers in my opinion. If not the FV scenario, then at least make the items heirloom on other live servers.

What I don't like about FV is the economy. It is eye opening to say the least. Prices are unbelievable to me coming from servers where items are "affordable". It brings back memories of my very first EQ char, a Paladin, who was in leather until his late 30's. My char is now 50 and still wearing some tutorial armour. This would drive me bonkers on my other servers but here I kind of like his rag-tag look, LOL. Likely a rationalization of the fact that I can barely afford his spells, making major armour upgrades out of the question unless they drop. I have been banking drops for other chars I have started on the server however. During those 50 levels, I have only had one leather armour item drop. Lots of plate and chain, so being the altoholic that I am, I started a Rogue and a Bard. I added a Mage a few days ago as well.

I have been doing the Teek quests to get the 3 non-visable pieces for the alts, but am unable to do the quests for the intricate as poor ole Vuggy is so under-armoured and weapon poor that the Cleric merc has trouble keeping him healed. The alts will soon sport better armour than their sponsor, lol.

I must say though, that I am having fun. I've only had one bad experience so far. I was invited into a group and after a relatively nice drop, the leader took it and disbanded immediately. This happens occasionally on all servers, so it didn't affect my overall positive outlook on this server.

In conclusion to this rambling, I should have started a char on this server way back. It is hard coming to a new server, especially one where items are being sold in the millions, not thousands of plat. In all my years of EQ, on many servers, I have never had more than 200K in total on any server.

Time to up my begging skills! Smiley: grin

FV economy has had a lot of plat transferred into it, and none out. On the bright side, you get to sell in this environment too.

You could move a character from another server with valued loot to FV, just remember that's been a one-way trip forever thus far.

I haven't played my crew of alts there in a long time, but it is where all my old mains with most of my cool stuff/memories are. At times I think about moving all my gear there to a new alt and enjoying a super-powered run to 65, but then I'd be back to that 65-80 run that I never want to stick with the game playing. I also (personally) preferred the FV community more before the impact of Krono and the heavy influx of transfers in, but maybe I should give that a go with fresh eyes as it has been years.

I think if Daybreak made a super-sever like Phinigel that was at the live game (with the instancing and picks) and the FV loot code it would quickly become the largest pop server in the game, especially if they allowed transfers onto it from every other server (including FV). I say this because the lingering "roleplay" aspects of the FV ruleset such as languages are just nuisances at this point. At the same time, if they just converted FV to a super-server as-is and allowed free transfers for a month... it would probably still become the highest pop live server.

As now a non-raider, if I hadn't moved to FV 4 years ago, I would probably have quit playing. I remember in my final months on Saryrn (Bertox) it got to the point where there wasn't anything much worth pharming anymore since I had equipped my boxed toons and since most good loot was no-drop it was pointless to pharm more. Prices might be higher on FV than "regular" servers but don't forget you can sell almost anything as well which means if you can find a sweet spot for desirable drops, of which there are a huge amount, you can earn the plat you need to buy upgrades. I find that even gear designed for lower levels, like 60-75, sells decently, especially if you're smart and price it right. I set my Bazaar prices to make stuff MOVE OUT. If I have an item on my trader for more than a week I drop the price and I keep dropping it till it's gone. I don't believe in "book" prices, only in prices that lead to items getting SOLD. My point is if you play the FV Bazaar smartly, and it's a very very active Bazaar, you can make plat at any level.

For example, I do a lot of trading in collectibles because it was kind of an obsession of mine to complete all the collectible achievements. I kept finding certain 'rare" collectibles were almost never available in the Bazaar. Then sometimes ONE would be offered for sale at some crazy price like 400k. (IMO, no collectible, even on FV, is worth over 100k, but that's me.) Well, I started researching where they drop or spawn and I started to discover that a lot of supposedly very rare and very valuable collectibles are not that hard to pharm, if you do your homework. Rogues make out like bandits here since rogues can easily acquire most collectibles that appear as ground spawns. I have an 85 rogue (free Heroic from back when EQ offered every account 1 free Heroic toon) who I do nothing with except to run thru certain zones and gather every collectible he can find. One run thru a typical zone, 20 mins max, and I can find 20 collectibles, some of which "sell" for 100k. I say "sell" because I've seen others post them up for 100k. I post mine for as low as 10k because I want a quick sale and I know how to get more easily. This is just one idea for any easy way to make plat on FV. (Heck, with collectibles, you can make good plat this way on any server.)

Augments are another quick turnover item that can be pharmed pretty easily---some of them---if you know what you're doing. Token of the Waveswept, a 50ac augment, drops from Lidia the Castaway on Brothers Island and she is such an easy spawn. At least she was when I killed her at least 50x and looted dozens of this augment. Players are asking 250k for this regularly in the FV Bazaar. That's pretty high considering a capable group can probably pharm one for every player in the group in under 2 hours of camping her spawn spot. Yeah, this is a level 105 player example but there are similar at every level. You just gotta do your homework!

Welcome to FV and feel free to send me a tell when you're online. Happy to help in any reasonable way. This goes for anyone playing on FV, of course, especially newbies, returnees and newly transferred. Not to brag, but I have far more gear than I can even use on alts so I'm happy to give away stuff or sell decent stuff at bargain prices.

Welcome to FV!

I kind of spoiled myself on raid gear (as in, I haven't bought group gear for my 105 wizard since she transferred to FV when Mayong merged into Tunare 6 years ago). Having said that, I bust my rump trying to farm up money just to upgrade 1 piece.

However, if you're quite happy with group gear, they're not too awfully expensive.

Anyway, welcome to FV. Hope you enjoy it here. =)

P.S. There are a lot of obnoxious people in general chat (including me.. I'm QUITE obnoxious, lol). Just a heads up. =P

Nice magelo profile. I may have some twink gear and stuff laying around if you need anything.
