State of EQFollow

I have been away from EQ for a few years now and I was wondering if it was worth coming back to. I always loved EQ, but then the game lost a huge amount of players. So, has the game made any kind of comeback with players? I would appreciate any thoughts from people who are still playing.

Hard to answer question since we don't know what "worth coming back to" means to YOU. Plenty of people still play the game but it sure isn't the #1 MMORPG that it was in the first 5 years if its existence. But EQ is still quite viable and if anything there are more options now than ever before, what with the regular servers as well as the progression servers. If you want to try to relive the old school experience make a toon on the Phinigel server, which will bring you closest to that nostalgic feeling.

I see players returning all the time. On FV I do try to assist new players and returning, with tips and other help. And I do see a lot of them. A lot of old-time EQers are doing what you're considering: returning to a game that they loved.

Since you can play for free for starters, why not give it a shot?

I tried the free for starters and just couldn't get into that much. Now, that being said, I always loved grouping with people and going on the Nagi raids. If only i could remember my old accounts, I would give a try without a doubt. I miss my 80 Druid and 80 Rogue. I always liked EQ better than WOW because I loved the way rogues played, not nearly as complicated as in WOW. I also miss the class of CC, they were always fun to play as long as you had a group...hard as heck to lvl solo though. LOL I may give it a shot again. I may hop on the FV server and try to look you up if that's ok.

Yeah sure, feel free. If you're willing to spend $35 you can make a level 85 heroic character with decent gear, spells and AA's. But I wouldn't recommend it to start. It's pretty easy to level up these days and you'd be better off working your way through the lower levels to refamilarize yourself with the game. You can always kick your toon UP to 85 by paying for heroic status so better to work your way up to 50-65 or so, and then if you feel the need, spring for the big jump to 85.
