I don't think the named item prizes for the Discord contest ever made it into the game. As I remember, there was so much shadiness going on (hacks and stuff) that the whole prize thing was just sort of dropped.

Heh, I remember characters being sold on eBay. Something like $400-$500 for an epic equipped cleric.

Rangers could heal themselves using "Skin like XXXX" due to the added HP. So each cast was worth the amount of HP the spell added to your total. Ghetto heals

Enchanters could charm the Priest of Discord and use him to kill guards in Faydark (probably in other areas but only saw it in Fay)

There once was a program that ran in Linux that would display a map of the zone you were in complete with all the MOBs, NPCs. Characters and their level in relation to yours (green, blue, white.. etc)

There used to be a trick where you could steal something from a vendor by clicking on it and backing away until the vendor window closed. Then the item would appear on your cursor (can't remember if you had to be inspecting it or what)

Swimming could be raised by swimming into a corner. With your head above water you could swim there for hours (while you slept) and raise swimming to max quickly.

High level toons could be sold on Ebay for serious money.

The linux program still exists. Its called ShowEQ and it's highly against the EULA.

Anyone remember EQWindows? The only way to play eq in a window before SoE implented it? I prefer WinEQ2 myself due to the Eqplaynice feature. =) Keeps from CPU happy.

EQ Zone Viewer was a different program than ShowEQ. ShowEQ provided things like current mob locations, spawn tables, etc and was basically a cheating program. [Edit: My mistake there, I thought you were confusing them. You weren't; I was confused about you instead Smiley: grin ]

EQ Zone Viewer read the zone files on your hard drive and let you move around the zone. It didn't show anything stored server-side (mobs, doors, etc) and didn't connect to the server at all -- you could run it with your computer offline. It may have still been against the EULA but it wasn't much of a cheating tool since it only showed the zone geography and nothing else.

I know EQ Zone Viewer worked as late as LDoN; I looked at some of the dungeons and they were impressively enormous when panned out. I'm not sure if I still own it though; I think it got dumped at some point when I took EQ off my hard drive.

That was CHEAP once upon a time! Epic clerics were in big demand. I believe EQ toons have sold as high as $4000 back around 1991-1993. I used to have a guildie who I know paid $650 for a level 56 cleric withOUT his epic around that time and this toon wasn't even max level (cap was 60 then IIRC.) He just wanted to be able to rez his main toons "on demand" without having to beg other players for the favor. Yeah, seems crazy today but XP came slowly in those days and he'd rather spend the money than have to re-earn the lost experience.

I used to have printouts of eBay auctions for top EQ toons but I threw them all away during one of the several times I quit the game "for good." This was before Sony complained to eBay that sales of toons violated the EULA and eBay started deleting character auctions as soon as they were posted.

LOL I was thinking the same thing.

They may have been in the four digits though. I was never in the market to drop the price of a used car on a video game character.

If you were a Rogue or a Monk you could sell and buy from KoS merchants by using sneak and going behind them.

If you used feign death without turning off attack in melee range it would sometimes fail.....took me many deaths to figure this out.

There were many tricks to getting through locked doors that still work today. IE shrinking then using an illusion, then clicking the illusion off while running into the door. Another trick is getting a mob that can summon to 96% or below and then fearing him, they warp through the door then summon you.....use to do it in VT all the time.

Quillmane is actually extremely easy to spawn if you have a tracker with you, it is on a separate spawn cycle. You pull all the mobs around the spire and to west of it then aoe them down, the first one to pop up on track is the ph. (The spawn cycle with Quillmane on it has a quicker respawn then all the others) It can also be used to spawn Brother Qwinn.

In the old bazaar you could actually levitate a trader and "push" them into the arena then kill them.

There is a Solusek C zone, it was implemented right around the time they added Chardok B and was originally suppose to be temporary.

The original gods are all named after the domain that they rule (Xegony-Oxygen; Tunare-Nature; Fennin Ro-Inferno; The Rathe-Earth; E'ci-Ice)

You can still use sneak to buy from a KOS vendor, or bank with a KOS banker.

The second trick is interesting... LOL. I know there was some aoe buff you could cast which would push traders off the trading platforms and pop them out of trader mode but I don't remember what that was exactly...

Yeah, and Qeynos means Sony-EQ. But I never figured out who TROPEERF was..... ;)

Yeah, yet people still argue how much SOE ruined the game....Verant and Redeye were always run by SOE they were just scapegoats for SOE to break into the MMORPG market.

In one of the editions of the Erudite newspaper (sold by the herald outside the bank in Erudin) there is a story about Gayle Weaven providing a reward for any information regarding her missing housecat. I searched Erudin high and low and there is no housecat. There is however a secret cat room in Befallen. The room is wallpapered with housecat heads and one wall reads "COOR -76, 6, 6". Could this be the location of Gayle Weaven's missing cat??? (Incidentally the cat's name is also Toby, the same name as the missing baby in the movie Labyrinth. It is perfect if the cat is in Befallen.)

Didya know that at one time Sony kept a page on their website with info on every character that paid to change servers and/or change their name?

The idea was that if some player with a toon having a bad rep decided to pay for a "makeover" other players could still track him down so he wouldn't be able to start all over again ripping people off or otherwise making a pest of himself.

Did you know that "Rhayannon", Guild leader of Resolution (one of the oldest and most prominent guilds on the Firiona Vie server.. now defunct) was on that list (now defunct ;p).

Didya know that the wurmslayer (which looks like a giant safety razor attached to the end of a staff) started out a 1HP (piercing) weapon but was later changed to its present class of 1HS? I'd like to know how you could "pierce" an opponent with that big weapon!

I love miscoded item stories..

Back when I first used Zlandicar's Heart as my primary, it looked like a sword (now it's a red flashing light). And I looked like a Dark Elf Druid: www.obsessionmatrix.com/felicite_miss_1.jpg

Did you know that for a while, when you meditated in skeleton form that you sat instead of collapsing into a pile of bones? www.obsessionmatrix.com/felicite_miss_2.jpg

how about the old druid rings and wizard spires, where if enough people went afk at the zone in spot, you would take falling damage and die.
And how dumb I was on my druid to bind in that exact spot in common lands just to hit gate, go afk and come back to a pile of my own corpses.

-in order to make new chat windows you had to type in the dimensions, size and color of the box

-you only got 6 hot buttons and only 1 page

- there was a UI that text was on a scroll like paper and monsters the same level conned "black"

-mod rods did not have timers

-it would take 60 minutes to go from Kelethin to Everfrost (if you made it)

-track had no sort ability or color fuction

-casters would get spells every 4 levels, priest every 5ish, and hybrids every 9

-a game was released in 1999 that forever changed the standard of gaming, inspired some, trapped others, but never failed to entertain, and still does today, albeit on a different level

Or from Rivervale to Faydark. I used to always level my halflings in Butcher, Faydark and Crushbone and it was always a serious challenge to make that journey.
