As a returning player, I am totally not in the know about the instanced zones.

what are the good ones? I have level all over the place non higher than 50.

What good ones did I miss, which ones scale to level, are they great for xp?

Thanks for the info.

Instances require either a Shared Task (Alt+Q), Monster Mission (Alt+Q), Adventure (Alt+V), or Expedition (Alt+Z). All of these types require a minimum of 3 people (including mercenaries) to obtain.

The original instance zones were based on LDoN (Lost Dungeons of Norrath) Adventures. Expeditions start with GoD (Gates of Discord) and are generally for 60+ level groups, so probably not for you yet, but later on, you might look into the MPG group trials. There aren't too many group Expeditions, most are designed for raids.

Shared Tasks there a many, but hard to give any good lower level examples for me at the moment. Higher level ones, such as the DoDh (Depths of Darkhollow) tasks and spell arc missions are some of the best though. The DoN (Dragons of Norrath) progression missions are also great ones.

Monster Missions are a combination of shrouding (playing a monster or other type of NPC) and a Shared Task. There are lots of these, and can be done at any level. You can find a list in the link to the left under Quests, called Monster Missions. Rewards scale to your toons unshrouded level when you are finished.

As far as experience rates go, it varies alot by mission, expedition, adventure. LDoNs are descent xp at lower levels, and wins (along with appropriate NPC hails, and the like) will evolve your Adventurer's Stone charm aug. Vendor loot is descent from them as well, as weel as some LDoN-only tradeskull supplies, although they're not too popular any more for bazaar selling. All the other types, vary alot by the type, and particular mission. The High Hold Keep Monster Mission used to be awesome xp, but it was nerfed many years ago.

Most people do certain Missions, and Expeditions, for the rewards rather than for experience, as it's generally better xp to stick with good xp zones, and hot zones. LDoNs even aren't awesome xp, but are generally easy at lower levels, and give descent xp.

Again, I don't remember any lower level shared tasks that are great, but there are severl Monster Missions, (since they're do-able at any level), that give out some great rewards. The Dain series in particular, but there are many others as well. The DoDh spell arc missions, and DoN progression are also great rewards, and particular ones of the them are good xp, specifically, the 69.1 spell mission.

**** EDIT ****
Forgot, for higher levels, the Mechanical Guardian instances are great for xp, as well as chance to get some good loot drops (and quest drops for various quests including the face aug series).

You might also want to look at this overvew of quests.

I am also a returning player and I am confused with the LDoN zones/instances.

Questions:

1.) Is their a level cap?
2.) What is the lowest and 85 can group with?
3.) How many people have to be in the group or does that also count the mercs?
4.) Can (say like and 85) do a lvl 40 instance or does it have to be the level the Character's requesting that zone?

Any help here is Greatly Appreciated!!

My recollection is, players have to be within 10 levels of each other to request an LDoN, the average level of the group determines the level of the mission. The mission levels have 5 level jumps. You need 3 to request, and mercs count towards the three, and are allowed in to the missions. Mission level cap is about 65-ish, so once you're above that, they don't get any harder (but also start rewarding less relative XP).

Interestingly, some of the LDoN missions drop Type 3 augments which are still very useful and, on FV at least, quite valuable. That's because some classes don't have enough vendor-sourced Type 3 augments to fill all their open slots. Anything is better than nothing in an empty slot. There are augments that boost REGEN and ATTACK and one that increases DODGE. Check the search page here for Type 3 augments to find them all. One Miragul mission I must have done at least 15x before I got the augment I wanted to drop. But at 105 it was risk-free and fun to solo. Also fun to see those old dungeons. My guildies and I used to have a whole lot of fun doing LDoN missions, especially the race to finish when we had 1 or 2 mobs left to kill and only a minute till the deadline. That expansion also brilliantly encouraged pickup groups since no mercs in those days and you just couldn't solo or even box a mission.

Well, even if they have enough to fill your slots, some of the LDoN augs are more useful than the others. For example, I don't see me ever buying the summoned-only nuke aug.

Yeah true dat. Depends on your class. It was annoying me to see empty Type 3 slots collecting dust on my warrior. But I can fill all my druid's slots, just using one for a non-spell augment: the one that enhances DODGE.
