Not sure about restartingFollow

#1 Jun 27 2008 at 5:16 PM Rating: Decent
I've not played Everquest in probably over 3 years now. Had been addicted up till then but just left the game. I've seriously been thinking about starting up new again. Can someone tell me...is it as enjoyable now as it was way back when. I have looked for something similar, but nothing I've looked into is anything like Everquest. I just miss it sometimes. Can someone let me know if it would be worth it to start all over?

Yes and no. First off, a lot has changed. If your fond memories include stuff like going to Oasis or Paludal and seeing a lot of people, getting in a group, and having fun while barley surviving against orcs and what not, then no. The level 1-60 game is now either A)solo or B)get PL'd.

The game is mostly about the high end now. I always have the same memories, with eq being my first mmo and longest played. I'd think "Hey, if i go back, it'll be like old times. I can start a new char, play through my old stomping grounds...high keep was the bomb!" but i;d go back, find out that every zone is dead, except for the newest expansions zones. I sat in High keep for 3 days, 16 hours a day...not a single other person the entire time. I quit again shortly after.

EQ has lost its magic for a lot of people. It's a dieing game really.

Try and remember your old account info. Your account is active atm with SoEs Living Legacy promotion. Log in, check it out, but dont be disappointed if its not the same game you fell in love with. Cause its not..

If you want to restart then here is a few suggestions. Do what I did as a returning player since this new promotion deal. Log onto your old account, do some exploring and see if you get that same twinge the first time you ever heard the EverQuest Theme song.

Second, make a new toon, and do the same. Wander around the new zones as well as the old if you like, and try some of the quest. If in your travels you meet some new friends try grouping with them.

This game is only solo if you choose it to be. The fact of the matter is EverQuest is only High End and End Game to those who choose to make it so.

Third thing is to remember it is still just a game. The nostalgia is what brought me back. Once I did suggestion one and two I found that even with a lot of the extrememly new changes EverQuest was not the dead game like the good thread prior to mine.

Fourth thing is to troll the boards and see who is posting what. Look for the good the bad and the ugly. You will actually find more good then bad. Also try taking up Trade skilling. TS'ing is an adventure in itself.

And last try not to remember the game how you thought it used to be but how it still can be.

Since you currently have about 30 days free, I don't see why you shouldn't give it a try. If you find yourself not enjoying the new EQ, then give our classic-ish guild a try: www.theforgottentravelers.com

Basically, there's just really no reason to not reactivate and give the current state of EQ a try, since you currently have a free month.

I'd say that it's more than worth it for free! There's no risk to you, AND you'll be getting about 4 or 5 expansions at no charge.
