hey all i have created a necro and love the soloing freedom it has,but i was wondering about a shaman. if i create me a shaman what race should be my best option and how is the soloing aspect of it. Not really looking into a grouping class but was want to maybe retire my cleric which is 67.

Shammy is my main.You can root and dot but shammy's have a few setbacks on this.For one their spells are about double the mana as everyone else's because of their ability to canny.This causes you to lose health and if the root breaks you are that much closer to dying.
Second thing is their pets are usless for tanking.Very low hp's and laughable ac.Your pet will dissappear before you can heal him.
I supose at low lvls they do as well at soloing as any other caster class but you will really notice a difference the higher up in lvls you get.

Generally a decently geared shaman has pretty good soloing potential if they really want to solo. With all the mob debuffs they have, they can do a decent job of taking on most mobs. Not necessarily the most efficient soloers... (If you aren't root rotting your most likely tanking the mobs, which means much more mana expenditure) ...but very talented when it comes to making certain they win a fight.

Jonwinnie is my shaman now 67, and i find she can still solo with pet.
You do have to watch pets hp, but using spirit of leopard and going in to melee myself its doable. You can always root rot, and back off pet for regen health.
As far a race the two most sensible choices to me are troll worship Innoruk, as you can use the clicky necklace snare. Necklace is quested from nerriak.
The other choice, since you want to solo would, for me, be iksar. Iksar get an innate ac bonus. Ac makes you harder to hit and its free!
A 3 choice for solo would be the ogre for the no stun from front bonus. To me that is just not that important. At higher levels my troll does get stunned but rarely is it fatal.
With all that said, i find it easier to solo with a druid than a shaman. At least in outdoor zones.

My main is a 68 Shaman on Prexus...I've soloed most of my way to this level. While I don't claim to know all ins-and-outs of my class nor the game, the Shaman class is a very viable soloing beast. I'm not a huge fan of root-rot as I prefer to send my doggie in and start off with a slow. Hit them with all of your dots and canni as needed. Take up alchemy and make a lot of Skinspike potions (or bazaar them, though the ingredients for Skinspikes VI are fully vendor bought and pretty trivial). Get the AA Virulent Paralysis whenever possible and then upgrade that to level 2 when you get a chance.
As far as the mana-draining spells, it's partially true. Hitting a mob using my method may drain your mana a bit but it's all easy recovered with tribute regen or clarity potions or just plain ol' canni. I hardly have down time and when I do it's only for a few moments.

My main is a 75 shm. I solo very often due to limited and odd hours play time and do fine with it. Root rotting is very good to me now as i have completed most of the DoT crit aa's.
Soloing up to 50 will be no problem, past that you need to start to choose your targets a bit more carefully. Look for mobs that are fully slowable or rootable and either tank it or DoT it respectivly.
As far as race, i would suggest the troll/inny most because i chose barbarian and think a clicky snare would have been, and be, awesome. Though you should pick a race you like and want to run around as in game as well.

Since the 50's my shaman has used the snare less and less. Had to break it out when i was camping for shadow essence in maidens eye however. It is a nice thing to have even if it only lasts a few tics. Long enough to put some distance between you and the mob so that a root can land.
