Is Everquest still viableFollow

Hello, this is my first post. I am wondering if Everquest is still a viable on-line game since it has been around so long. I am contemplating buying the Titanium edition.

Is the game still well supported?

Is new content available periodically?

How long will Sony support EQ?

Thanks for any responses. I just don't want to start something that is out dated and unsupported.

Everquest is not outdated, but it's not the game it used to be either. It's been around long enough for the mechanics and graphics and mass appeal factors to have all been updated. The community is more mature overall than in most other MMOs. SOE currently plans on releasing a new expansion once a year. They usually don't release new content except for purchased expansions, but sometimes they add a zone or revamp things.

They will support it for another few years at least I'm sure. At least, with patches and expansions. The in-game support isn't what it's cracked up to be, but they do have GMs and Guides and systems to resolve problems if you can reach anyone.

I would skip Titanium and download the EQ Starter Pack from the online Station store for $20 if you don't want to get the one latest high end content expansion too in the $40 bundle.

Check out THIS POST if you do decide to give EQ a whirl.

EQ is still a fun game if you want it to be so. Support? Weeeeeeeeell, it runs, but that's about it. Any and all troubles I've ever really had I've found "Support" here in Allakhazam's more than anywhere else (hence why I asked for a gift subscription for this website). SOE itself seems bound and determined in shooting their own foot off and it's only by sheer luck that theyb haven't done so. I question a LOT of their ideas, like the LoN Card system for one..while I love the loot cards that add to the game, the rest of it just doesn't work for most people. Like someone said in another post - If I wanted to play cards I'd get my old "Magic" cards out.
No one gets excited about EQ...def not Sony. I don't see SQUAT as far as advertisements are concerned (and I subscribe to various gaming magazines!). I tell people I play and they generally laugh and tell me I should try WoW (did anyone see the South Park episode with WoW?)
In fact...most of my old EQ friends from a few years back play WoW now..But I refuse to because I'm into EQ. It's my world away from reality, and I think the graphics are MUCH better. Besides, it's so satisfying to b**ch slap an orc pawn sometimes.

Everquest can be a lonely experience in todays game. It is hard to find regular people to group with in lower content. For example say your a level 50 shadow knight. You group with a 50 shaman. You guys have a blast. There is a good chance the shaman is an alt that is played maybe twice a month, or you turn around and the shaman was power leveled and is now level 65. Or even worse you group with a player your level that is clueless about the game and is level 50 !

I have not seen many casual guilds that regularly group together for xp, yes im sure there are some I just have not seen them.

On the positive side, EQ is the best single player game ive ever played. There is always something to accomplish.

If you still want to jump in, study your class. Make personal goals. Don't worry about trying to level to 80 like a demon, there is a ton of fun content for all level ranges.

Good luck
