You need the most up-to-date DirectX 9. Google directx and you should be able to find the most current version easily enough.
actually if u download the most recent directx from the microsoft page, u won't get the correct file. u need to download the full install.
here
I have read that several times, but I don't really think it's true (anymore). It was probably true when this version of DX9 was released, but it must have been fixed.
I had a fatal harddrive error two weeks ago (MFT got corrupted, but I was able to retrieve all of my personal files using forensics tools). It happened on a Friday night and since I was going to take the harddrive into work on Monday to retrieve the personal files I had to put a new HD in. So, I put a new HD in, formatted, installed windows and all of my drivers, downloaded the current EQ patcher, downloaded the most current DX9 and started the patcher. 13 hours later I clicked on the "play" button and I was good. No errors.
Maybe I got lucky, I don't know. Like I said though, I just downloaded the regular most current version and it worked fine.
EDIT:
Ok, I think I see where the problem here is. The regular most current version will work fine if you don't already have DX9.0c installed on your computer. If you do, then you need the redistro. If you have an earlier version though you can just do the regular install. Click "start"-->"run" and type "dxdiag.exe" (without quotes) and see what version of DX you currently have installed. If you have DX9.0c already then do the redistro to just replace the core runtime components. If you DON'T have DX9.0c already then you should be able to do either install. I'm not sure why one version would have that file and the other wouldn't though. Kind of strange.
