Volunteered to be a guide just before Luclin. Was accepted (I'm not sure that's anything to be proud of, the "test" is freakishly easy) and went through orientation.

Then Luclin was launched, the game stability went to hell and I could barely even log in, much less conduct any Guide functions. So I resigned pretty much before I even started and took a month and change off from EQ to wait for SOE to figure their crap out.

I never have and I don't think I would. I just play to have fun, I don't want it to be a job.

pfft, I don't give guides any crap, although I do occasionally attend events.

I don't give english speaking GMs grief either, but that's more or less because I'm always right, so they never disagree with me Smiley: grin

There is no clear advantage/enjoyment in being one. When I want to listen to professional whiners all day long, I'll go to my 3 kids.

If Sony also waived the monthly fee on the server where my main was, I would seriously consider it.

One more option you didn't list: Applied but my application was denied. No explanation. Just No Thank You. Oh well, I tried. Will I try again, probably someday.

Well...you can make yourself invisible so that people can't /who all gm you...and you can also block regular tells (/t...but not ;t or [t). I think it would be a neat thing to do, to be able to run events, and be able to really get the role playing out there...

unfortunatly, as most have pointed out, there are way too many obnoxious players out there to deal with, those who mix up GM and Guides, those who hate them both because of "rumors", and those who actually go and make fun of them and try to get in trouble.

I think it would be nice to be able to help, to show faith to the EQ Players that help can be achieved, and that all the rumors about GM's being slow and mean and stuff is not true...

Unfortunatly, they "updated" the guide application proccess...and appearently my Birth Day is messed up, so I can no longer apply-- when just a couple weeks beforehand I had copied the original application and got almost all the questions filled out about the RP scenarios and Lore...

Volunteered, but the snobs never accepted me. My highest toon was below 65 (which was the highest level at the time). Apparently I was not seasoned enough to suit their needs. Maybe if I had bought a 65 character on e-bay...

I was a guide on CT for about 6 months around the time of Kunark's release. I enjoyed it, but just couldn't put the time in once my daughter was born.

I wasn't lvl 60 when I was accepted pre-Luclin. You must just be a jerk Smiley: grin

Well that would be beside the point of being hired as a guide now wouldn't it? Smiley: wink

Actually I have no idea why they didn't accept me. My highest toon was 40 at the time, so I always figured that was why. Pretty sure I handled all the questions correctly. Some of the 'how would you handle this situation' questions were pretty stupid since I knew how the GMs handled them, and gave the company line. Perhaps they were looking for touchy-feely answers when in fact that is the last thing GMs do.

When I was accepted, my highest level toon was only 25, so I don't think it was the level thing...

If I had been able to play during the past year, I might consider it, but as I can't afford to get my computer upgraded or a new computer, I don't know anything about the game anymore...I miss it so much.

I'm not sure if its still there or not, because i havnt looked at the guide app in a long time... or since it was revised when they took Customer Service away from the guides. But the requirement WERE: That you have to 18+, have at least 2 toons passed level 10, and that you grade decently on the application. Not so much the identify this picture part, but the "what would you do in this situation" part. I knew many a guide who didnt have "uber" toons or even maxed level toons. And i cant remember who posted about account fee's, but one of the very few perks to being a guide is that they waved the account fee for the account you applied with.

being a guide was a blast before they brought out the ol' nerf bat, moved customer service to stinkin' india or some such thing, and forced guides into a strictly "role-playing" capacity.

poopy imho.
