I would be sure to get some focus effects for your wife. The most critical imo are

Mana Preservation
Burning Affliction
Affliction Efficiency

Spell Haste is nice to have as well.

My necro loves any kind of HP regen he can get his scaly claws on. He happens to be an Iksar because I value the regen so much, I can deal with the xp penalty.

Teach her how to aggro kite and fear kite sometime soon. Probably teens or 20's before it becomes efficient.

Oh, and get her a harverster because well... They just look killer for a necro.

And Extended Range.

Affliction Haste is nice.. but less critical now that all the "damage over time" (DoT) cast times are dramically reduced.

Necro is easiest 1-70 Class I know of. You could be mid 60s playing 2-4 hours a day 4-7 times a week in 2 months.. solo and untwinked.

And my 6 year old daughter plays hers alone. She knows to Snare, DoT and tank when the pet gets low then tap back health (hers is 20ish.. but she does CRs too). It can be learned. Ok, sure, harder than a Cleric.

Someone with gear injections could easily hit 70 in <2 months solo.

The first 15-25 levels are the same for almost any class.. get a knife and stick stuff. Past that, learn the basic forms:

* Fear Kite
* Aggro Kite
* Root Rot
* Pet Tank (usually undead with slowing spells)
* Tap Tank
later
* Summon Kite
* Grouping (note this is an optional form.. basically slowing your XP so that others might benefit from your ability to kill at will).

Check: http://www.necrotalk.com/index.php?showtopic=4772 for an old GU comic poking fun about just how hard it really is.

The only way to know whats right for you is to try. Some people really miss whacking things.. and getting bruised. Me, I like being in the rear with the gear. Hence the three accounts listed in sig. *grins*
