EPIC FrustrationFollow

When I returned to EQ I decided I really wanted to focus on getting my epic 1.0 completed. I am a ranger, and from what I can tell my epic quest was fairly straight forward. I got invited to a great guild on the CT server, and they have been enormously helpful. In fact I was flying along until it came to getting a Jade Reaver. I as part of my guild's attempts, or with others have now tried to obtain a Jade reaver 22 times. Is there a secret to getting them to drop? I understand they are a rare random spawn but eesh 22 times and nothing. I've searched this site and others and can find no information on drop rate so i was wondering if anyone wanted to share.

On an added note....No I cannot buy a Jade Reaver. I never had any money to begin with, and buying pieces of my epic seems tawdry.

you never run out of reavers to kill. pretty sure the last one always respawns until the first one pops.

There is no trick to it, I've seen nearly a dozen drop in a reaver cycle before. Just keep getting little groups and a rogue to go with you and keep trying. You'll get it eventually. Make sure you get all the reavers, including the one way up in the sky behind the last locked door.

You can usually con a rogue into coming along by promising him a roll on subsequent jade reaver drops.

I know this may not be the way you want it, but you can buy one in bazaar for 10k.

Heh. Yeah. Buying is always an option.

Really though, the Reavers aren't that bad. Just make sure you kill *all* of them, including pulling the one's up the elevator. As stated before, I don't think you can run out of them. If you've killed them all, the last one will keep respawning more until another one spawns somewhere. By "respawn" IIRC, it actually respawns another reaver right there where you killed the last one. It's pretty darn effective since if you can pull them quickly (takes some practice and a puller that knows the area well), you can essentially continually kill reavers for hours at a time. You will get *tons* of the jade reavers as a result.

I can't confirm this, but I actually think that once you get into that "insta-spawn" cycle, the rate of jade reavers goes up noticably. I've seen long cycles where a dozen or more of them drop in a session. To the point where lots of them were rotting because they're lore and no one could pick another one up. It happens. Just make sure to pull them all.

Well, it's been a while since I went Reaver hunting, but as I remember it, any Black Reaver you kill has a chance to spawn another right there on the spot where he dies. This can give you a string of Reavers to kill, but once the last one dies without spawning another, that's it for that mob. There are a finite number of Reaver spawns. You do want to pull them all, and some are difficult to get to, or pull, as I remember. Of course, we were much lower level, poorer equipped.

Once you have killed all the originals, and any they spawn by dying, that's it until they repop. I remember many raids that killed them all, with no Jade Reaver drops. It would have been nice to have unlimited spawns to kill, lol.

BTW, they are selling for 5K on Luclin(Veeshan). The idea is to get the epic, not spend your life killing stingy mobs.

Blatant rumor, but my experience tends to confirm this: If you kill a Reaver fast enough, it will respawn instantly. OTOH I took part in killing maybe 50 reavers over the course of seven trips there, and never saw a reaver drop, so...

My guild did 2 epic hits recently for these. I guess we must have just had good luck, because reavers dropped from both events. We had one of our guild members donate 3 of them to the guild bank for future epic questers. :[smile]:

Here's how to get your reaver...

You say to group "Ok guys, we are going to CoM for some xp and maybe a few drops but NOT going for a Jade Reaver. Got it?

Group "Right, No Jade Reaver..."

Trust me, do not go there for it and you will get it.

Believe it or not, I got mine in Sebilis...(true story)

Solo Paladin approaches group hunting bugs across the bridge, just before the crypt.

Hail group! What are you fine people doing in Sebilis?

Getting xp and hoping to spawn Necrosis Scarab.

Hmm...I dont think that spawns here...you might need to go to <some other camp>.

Well, we beg to differ...in any event we are not hunting a Jade Reaver, I can tell you that...(ok I did not say the second part)

Well any Druids here?

Sure me, whats up (need a port? sheesh)

I happen to have this fine Jade Reaver I picked up, being a Paladin I have no use for it. Please take it.

Wow? You sure?

Sure, our group got a couple...

*gulp* ok...if you insist...

Pally leaves...

Puller tells group "Incoming <<<Necrosis Scarab>>>!!!

I swear that is what happpened...

Well I got one!!!!!

Dothammer's method is the way to go. Me and other ranger from guild decided to go see if VSR was up. Being frustrated about the reaver we thought it best to kill something else. Well we get us two rangers, a rogue, cleric from our guild and then this big ol barbarian warrior asks if he can come along(turns outn he is killing some time, and is a friend of the rogues). We say sure and off we got to kill VSR. after doing that and looting the pulsing stones the warrior asks where we(the rangers) are at with our epic quest. We tell him and thank him for his help. Later that day I run into the warrior in PoK and long story short he GIVES me a jade reaver. I think Dothammer's method should be posted under the Class strategy and guide section.

I have never heard of an infinite spawn on the reavers. IIRC the reaver up top can respawn 5 times for a total of 6 reavers from the top spawn point. Either way getting a jade reaver is just luck of the draw. I killed 50+ reavers before I got mine but I have also been in groups that have had up to three jade reavers drop from 1 cycle.
