Morning everyone,

Corpse Runs are the most painful part of the game for me. I will actually log out of EQ and not play the game for days after a particularly bad death (i.e. stupidity on my part and/or others).

1.) Does anyone else have this problem or is it just a personal issue for me?

2.) I hate the set back that occurs from the loss of experience and
gear (only temp of course). The time that is needed to find my corpse, find a necro and or cleric, work to gain back the experience is just painful.

Some people who post on this forum seem to die all the time and actually see it as a challenge. Of course, they have access to a guild and numerous alts that make the process of rebuilding a bit easier and quicker.

Anyway - just needed to vent because my new pally went down last night after someone trained my single camp.

Invest in DoN Bub, it`s worth buying just for the corpse rez alters in the Guild Lobby. It doesn`t cost must to buy your soulstone (maxes at about 170p I think depending on your level).

There is usually a cleric around in the Guild Lobby or if you are a pally I just self rez for 75%.

It cuts out all the pain of trekking across numerous zones in your frillies, with nothing but a few buffs for protection.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose. It's not that we love getting killed. It *is* a challenge, in the way that without the risk of death the game wouldn't be very challenging.

Honestly, the best thing to do when you die is just get right back into your group and keep going. At the lower levels of the game, the gear mudflation and ready availablity of buffs makes regaining exp super easy. Imagine hunting where you are in purely oldworld gear. Heck. I remember when you were "uber" if you had all bronze armor by the time you were level 20. And armor with stats on it? You had to raid for that stuff. A level 35 character was happy as anything to get a piece of armor with +3str on it (and nothing else!). I'm not kidding.

You're fighting the same mobs with 5 times better gear. Yeah. That doesn't make you immune to death, but it sure should make it easier to recover. Don't sweat not getting rezzes. I don't think I recieved a single rez on my first character until he was well into his 30s. I'm always amazed at folks in their 20s standing around begging for rezzes for 30 minutes at a time, when they could have gotten the exp back in 10.

By the time you actually lose something significant from dying in terms of time, rezzes are pretty much available easily. CRs are never fun (makes DoN worth it right there IMO!), but not that difficule ultimately. Try dying in your mid teens at the bottom of befallen sometime. That was a "fun" CR (and probably the hardest I've ever had, not counting some early fear raids).

Dying sucks. No doubt about it. But it's just part of the game.

If one of my characters dies, I do not log off until I have recovered my stuff and xp if possible. If it was a particularly embarassing death, I wont even ask for a rez (from guildies).

The only corpses I have ever left lying about were < level 10 or I left something like a fishing grub on them and then forgot to go back and get a rez.

I would be embarassed to have my corpse lying next to a zone-in or the PoK book for days.

I'm the same way. I'm almost religious about CR's. Even if I looted everything except a fishing grub off the corpse, I'll go clear it. I don't want the corpse sitting there. Of course, as others have pointed out, with DoN that's not a problem for me anymore. I'll gladly spent the 175pp to summon all of my corpses at once and get them rezzed in one easy, fell swoop (of course donating heavily to the cleric that's nice enough to do all of those rezzes).

Dying in a group and dying while soloing are two totally different situations.

I'm gonna take this opportunity to vent.

WARNING: /rant on

There's nothing that will kill my respect for a player faster than wiping a group, or causing a death, and then just disappearing. This has happened twice to me recently. Personally, I am very forgiving. Lord knows I make my share of mistakes. A conscentious player, in a group wipe or partial wipe situation ought to make sure everyone has a successful CR, and then if you feel that bad or are too frustrated to continue feel free to log out.

Kk: /rant off

When soloing if I do something dumb and kill myself, like Dot, I'll keep quiet about it and not bother guildies for a rez. Unlike Dot and Jay, if I am at a point of frustration, I'm no longer having fun and won't hesitate to leave my poor dead body lying whereever it may be and walk away from the computer. Smiley: blush

AMEN!! I actually did something last night that wiped out the whole group!! I let a mob run BAH!! trained fable on us wiped the 4 of us well maybe the wizard lived. I tried to camp but it was too late. Peeps where not happy> blamed me(which it was my fault) I apologized said was my mistake very very sorry. All was well. Peeps are forgiving if you just recognize your mistake like said in qoute above peeps make mistakes.
It is frustrating to die..but you just got to pick up and keep goin. If you just stop playin for days you will feel like you arent getting anywhere.

Hey, some of my best levels I attained more than once. My warrior reached her 25 level 8 times. She just got level 51. Twice.

I have had a couple of deaths were I had to walk away from EQ for a while. I think I just got a little too intense trying to keep up with friends. I finally gave up and just had fun. After a while it just gets to be too funny. Oh look, Wu died again.

Can someone tell me where I can find those soulstones? Do you get any xp back with them?

I do not feel like wasting a spot to keep a fishing grub or arrow on my body so the corpse can sit there. No, all my spaces have good things in them, so I never leave a corpse laying around, plus to me, I just don't see the point. And I too can't bring myself to ask for a rez if gross stupidity on my part resulted in the corpse (not that I can ever remember anthing like that ever happening...)

Un-dinging is the most annoying for sure, especially on a spell level.

I thought you could use the guild lobby without DoN, is that true or not true?

don't fortget, that Bub is not guilded (that's how I read his OP). so using the guild altar is no viable option.

stupid deaths? well...no such thing. they might be useless, if you don't learn from them, but that's about it.

but, I can very well relate to the feeling of "what the heck, then I let the corpse rot and play an alt."

Went back last night and got my corpse out of Befallen. Then logged and went back to my main server and started another alt.

I will eventually get back to my level 12 Pally on Morden Rasp. Playing an untwinked character is a huge challenge and lots of fun.

Just have to wait for the "$*%*#@@ lost experience" DOT to wear off. Maybe tonight RASTANN and his fine stell long sowrd will once again challenge the evil forces of the Befallen Zone!

Of course that depends on how much wine I drink too!!! Somehow being reduced to a blabering idiot and playing everquest go hand in hand with me. Chardonnay and Eq go great together!!!

However it usually results in another corpse run since I get a little brave and take on a bit too much.

Not true, you do not have to be in a guild to summon your corpses back into the guild lobby.

(Although I do resent not being able to use the regen pool though!)

Egnaro, thanks for the correction. I shouldn't really be talking about things I am not 100% sure of...(especially as I do not own DoN).

Warning contains opinion (duh)...

If you want to leave 10 corpses lying around that is fine. Just looks like you have no clue what you are doing. I can understand if I see your dead self deep in a dungeon, but the guy who has 4 corpses in PoK or 3 by the PoK book in OT will cause me to AVOID him like a fat hairy plague rat.

I just said FOR ME I do not like leaving them. That's what OP was asking I believe. If I do leave a small item on them, it is only because I expect a rez very soon, and need my equipment sooner.
