I was killed twice last night by Cazic Thule during a Fear Raid (zone had already been cleared except for him and Terror when we arrived) - and it got me thinking to other opponents that cleanned my chanter's clock:

Ambassador Dvinn in Crushbone while in my teens.

The Undead Dwarven Battlemaster in Unrest in my 20s.

Lady Vox on my first raid (never even saw her before dying as someone accidently pulled while we were setting up LOL).

Craig Queen in Natimbi - summoned and died first time before even seeing her (hmm seems to be a patern here).

I was wondering what other player's memories were in this regard?

Velketor last night - It was my first raid ever. I think we got him just below 60%, and then our tank went down. I was in the same room (RL) as another person in the raid. I remeber seeing "Tank down!" simultaneous with the realization that I was looking at our MA's corpse. The SA went down moments later. I remember having enough time to think, "Who is he on now?" Then, my real life buddy, who is sitting about 5 feet away is yelling WTF?!?! Yeah, I took like 4k of damage in what seemed like less than 30 seconds, and...

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT . . .

Hehe, by the time I had spawned in PoK, I had an huge smile on my face. WOOT! First raid death ever!

This death happened before Velious came out. I, along with 2 friends were running up the mountain pass in EK, going to High Keep to hunt. Was going to be my first time there. I miss timed a turn and went off the edge and went splat!

No idea why that one death sticks with me, butit sure was a memorable time for me. :)

I won't mention all the fun I've had in Velks since then. Heh

that was with my pally. I was close to 30, never been to lower GUK before, but decided to give it a go. all conned dubios, so it was ok (although scary). until I came across a (water?) elemental. started attacking me, and all of a sudden all the froggies joined in...

now, nobody from my guild was on at the time, so a very friendly ranger finally came and dragged my body to the zone... he must've been very delighted, as he also had to show me the way out to Innothule swamp (didn't have maps back at the time and didn't know my way around upper GUK either).

worst 4 hours of my EQ career...(that was pre shadowrest).

strange, never happened with my Necro... I wonder why ;)

Was on my first raid and it was to the plane of fear. Was really nervous since I had no idea what to expect after clicking on the giant portal. Zoned in, 1 second later I see "LOADING, PLEASE WAIT ..". Fun...my most memorable almost-death though was when I made a new erudite and fell into the hole, zoned in to find myself not dead and not falling. Turns out I was in some secret GM room with locs written all over the walls. Funny thing is that there was someone else in there with me too, had to get GMs to summon us out(luckily it was when GMs actually answered you when you sent a petition).

Treading on a see invis mob deep in MPG.

Having a group member run ahead of the group into a nest of mobs deep in GoD sewers.

Wiping in a duo deep in RCoD ... first time I had been there.

Watching a friend fool around by running up a tree in Butcher Block (crazed Gobs). He fell out and died... I laughed so hard.

Going for an epic piece with guild... 2 seconds before we took out mob, I fell in the water, swam out near a mob, trained and died. I got rezzed back 2 seconds after the body poofed away.

numerous deaths from 20k falls (4 in pok alone, on the same day...)

dying in natimbi at 70, otw to a txevu raid.. not to the cragbeast queen.

trying to invis split pull warlord e'prosio in hate, not realizing he was a shadowknight, and thus, could not be invis split.

otw to an ikkinz trial, invising everyone in the group but myself.

using divine aura to camp out in an uqua wipe, as a warrior... (ok, not technically a death.)

Most memorable was the first one after I hit level 10. Happened in Blackburrow and had no clue where my corpse was, didn't even know what a rez was at the time. Some nice high level toon took care of me in the PoK.

Not a single death, but earlier in my career as a cleric, I was afk high up on the zonewall in OT...AFK ended up being about 3 hours...came back, waist-deep in corpses...in EW (by the Crystal Caverns zone-out). I lost three or four levels there.

Remember to always re-bind, folks!

My first toon, a level 6 woody ranger. A friend told me I had to get to EC, because it was so much better then faydark. So, I work my way through BB (that took forever). Found the boat, but that took forever, since I didn't really understand how to use it. I was just trying to follow everyone else and ended up falling off of the raft before we got to the boat. Swam back to shore and waited for the next boat.

Once we got in the ocean, I wasn't sure what to do, so when we stopped, I hopped on the raft that was there... didn't realize I wasn't supposed to do that. After the boat left and I was stuck on this island, I decided to try and swim to another island, since people were "kind" enough to tell me where I needed to be with locs (which sucked since I didn't understand them, and my sense heading was still only like 20). I swam for what felt like forever, until I see something with people on it. Land ho! Once I got close and they started attacking me, I figured I'd be able to swim to safety, since I had a head start on them... I was wrong.

Believe it or not, I went back and tried to get my corpse, but had no luck finding it. I ended up rerolling...

Just made level 14 and I was uber baby, uber. Had all me newbie armor and I could levitate!. I flew around Everfrost and POK just for the fun of it and then decided to get serious with my new found abilities. Took the boat to OOT and got off at the first stop.
Flew to the closest island (no more swimming for me!) and spotted a gobby shaman near some huts. I already knew greenies could kill me so I decided to fly around and scout things out. The plan was that once I saw where they all were I would nuke em from way up in the sky where they couldn't reach me. Death from above! Mwaaahaahhaaaa!
I was just starting to circle the shammy when WHAM! something hit me. Oh no! Invisible Flying Monsters!
As I started to run over the village to the water I started getting pounded but good. I looked down and saw about about 10 mobs and one of em was targeted. What? No fair! I was a mile over those things. I died in about 5,000 fathoms of water.
That was the day I quit EQ forever. I had no idea where my corpse was (huh? /loc?) and there was no way I was doing those quests again (this was before Shadowrest). Luckily a good friend of mine listened to me rant with only an occasional lmao and then paid a necro to summon my corpse to the dock.
Not my worst blunder but one I'll never forget. 44 levels later and I still haven't gone back.

This was memorable for sheer stupidity, looking back it's funny. I had been playing my baby necro, logged on my main, maybe in 40's then, thought, oh, I have to get those spells in Neriak, walked (tried to rather)into the city. The most embarassing part was having to pay a young necro to drag my corpse to me, was glad you can't see toons rolling on the floor laughing.

The most unfair one was in my 20's or so, stepped over/off a small little rock and died.

The weirdest almost death (had 1% life left), I entered Paludal Caverns for the first time ever, fell into a hole that is not there (I could see a circle of a lighter area way above me). My group mates kept saying you can't be in a hole, there's no hole. They couldn't see me, I gated out, and went back, holelessly.

Going back a long way now, but as a young ranger finding my feet, I was bored of levelling and decided to go exploring.

I had started in Qeynos and was exploring the Freeport area and had been grinding in the Oasis. I was .. level 15?
I print a map of Norrath and l see this wonderfully exciting zone called feerrott. "lets go there!" I say to myself and I carefully thread down through Southern Ro and into Swamp of no hope. Which for a new player at level 15 is scary! SAND GIANTS!! Smiley: jawdrop

So I reach feerrott. I am SO impressed! There are new lizard creatures, all so exciting. I look around carefully and then see NPCs! "oh they look nice!" I think to myself, and having never seen anything but friendly NPCs I walk up to say /say hello. *WHUMP* Loading please wait .............

It took 2 attempts to CR and I learnt about faction that day Smiley: laugh

In the summer of 1999 i began my EQ journey with a Ogre SK. I had made lvl 6 and went to the otherside of the river in Feerrott to hunt Lizzies. I was doing fine and found no mobs near me when i went ld. No problems got back to my char and he naked right outside of Ogguk. Again no biggie i knew where i was when i went ld so back i go to find my corpse nowhere to be seen. Looked all over the area and was becoming scared being naked and with hostile lizzies everywhere. I asked in /ooc for help and a much older Necro came to my aid. He found my corpse high in a tree clear across the zone from where i went ld. To this day i have no idea what killed me or how my corpse ended up in that tree.

Another weird death was with my lvl 56 Druid who had just returned from Erudin with ore for blacksmithing. I had sow and levitate on and was at the forge in Rivervale. My weight was 1392/97 when lev suddenly stopped and i fell 3 feet to my death doing 10k non melee dmg lol.

Sir Lucan was a fairly memorable death for my necro. Died to him twice...mostly because at the time few of my spells would stick and other guards kept aggroing our little guild raid. Went back a third time a few days later, dragged him out to the newb yard, and aggro kited him to victory. That revenge felt good.

Back in the day with my paladin...Cazel and the spectres of oasis. What a mess.

Falling down the well with my paladin in Befallen. All I wanted to do was look...whoops.

Falling down the well inside Icewell Keep. With same paladin. Died messily to Frosticube. Died again with druid, who went in to scope things out. Thank goodness for corpse summonings, and a high level friend who dragged the druid to the opposite zoneline.

My very first EQ character was a half-elf paladin. Because he seemed to have shifty eyes, I named him OutlawEyes. I learned the game with him, and I'll never forget one of his deaths. I had gotten to Everfrost Peaks for the first time and was exploring the edges of the tundra. The whole game was still quite new to me. But I was a paladin, a doer of good. So when I saw a barbarian racing across the tundra, pursued by a huge bear, I thought I would help the poor soul. So I fired an arrow into the bear, hoping to distract him. It worked. That's when I learned that plinking Iceberg isn't a really good idea. He doesn't like it; neither does Tundra Jack.

Being a troll SK you don't really go safely anywhere in the old days, so I didn't travel that far from home. When I started an alt DE Enchanter and was able to do my first set of illusions I took off to see CB. Was wandering around and fell in one of the little puddle size lakes and got stuck under the edge of a boat and drowned.

Not the most glamourous, but it's a fond memory.

N. Qeynos, the Exterminator rat whisker turn in fella.

Had been playing EQ all of 2 hours, had whiskers in hand. Was handing them in and, due to way I had my screen set up an dnot playing close attention, hit "Auto-attack" rather than "Give"

My level 3 monk never knew what hit him. =)

Nice one last night. Cleared spire in Mons Letalis, lined up Spire Lord in my sights, hit'em with Annul, was backing up to pull him back to my warder. Just as I notice, "hey, there's Fuzzbutt" I back right over the edge of the platform and several seconds later went splat.

yes, I forgot Lev had worn off--but more important, wasn't paying attention and forgot I was berlinkin' hundreds of feet above the ground.

Falling off Kelethin...

10k drop in Dalnir's

Using the 'beg' skill only to be thumped by Felwithe merchant

Any death due to an Unrest train is memorable... Karnor's was almost as bad

Forgetting to remove sow while attempting the icewalks in Velks

D'vinn, Lord Darish, Royal Guard and that annoying rooting *******, Retlon Brenclog and his pet 8(

Dying in Yelinak's room in Skyshrine (cos I wanted to see if I was kos lol) and spending 3 hours meandering in the maze

Numerous unseen deaths due to 'medding with spellbook open'

Binding my cleric at the Crystal Caverns zone in EW back when Ry'gorr armor was the shiznit (Can anyone say, "Deathloop?")

First time wandering into Lfay and getting whalloped by a brownie I never saw. Found that damn horse on my corpse run. That damn horse found me on the next one lol

Pulling the entire Unrest mansion with my cleric and a pally friend and dying while trying to get that perfect screenshot

First death due to boating mishap...

Seems all my memorable deaths were pre-luclin lol now they are just part of the norm. Nice thread, brings back memories and oddly enough, most are good memories from all those deaths 8)

Seems as if I had my most memorable deaths with my warrior:

Went to Blackburrow at a very low lvl (6? 7?), stayed at the top while some of my friends hunted in the lower levels. I see this Gnoll pup in front of a hut, kill it and enter the hut. Falling, falling, falling, BAM. Still alive, but getting killed by the Gnolls immediately. My friends finally dragged my corpse out. Still hate that pit trap.

Tried to do the Anniversary Scavenger Hunt at lvl 20 - eer, 19 - eer, 20 - eer, 19 - eer, 20.

Went to Steamfont to explore the minotaur cave at lvl 20 (don't laugh). All the minos were green to me, and I followed the tunnel, when suddenly I got to know Meldrath The Malignant. I even didn't see him, he casted through the wall. I started running, left the cave and was on my way to zone. I happily realised that nobody was following me, until I saw my hp bar dropping continuously. Meldrath's spell killed me on half my way to zone.

Another time, my mage was on her way through LFay. She was hit from behind, and when she turned around, the last thing she saw was beautiful Equestrielle standing in front of her.

Of course I fell from Kelethin several times, some time ago when there was no "find"-option...

Ahhh, the good old days.

Level 6 or 7 female Wood Elf Ranger. An on-line friend who blacksmithed had just given me a COMPLETE set of banded armor & I was hot stuff!

Until that point I had only explored the areas around Kelethin so I decided to ease on down the road to Felwithe & the to Kaladim. Only thing was I didn't follow the instructions given to me & ended up in LFay.

I realized my mistake, but LFay looked alot like GFay so I wasn't concerned. Besides I had a full set of banded armor! I stepped out of the zone & took a gander. It was then I noticed the following....."A brownie scout begins to cast..." I look around. Brownies? Cool. They must be my friend cause I'm an elf. Same family, right?

BOOM! Fire surrounds me & I'm...rooted? And then there are 2 of these very angry, ugly guys standing there casting & hitting me.
LOADING, PLEASE WAIT>>>>>>>>

Second most memorable death...

Druid in Dreadlands for 1st time. I'm levved & I see the giant spires. Cool, lets go up top & see what I can see. Get to top. Nice view if you can get up there. Thought I was standing on edge of spire. Was chatting with a friend when I saw notice "You feel like you are beginning to fall" NP cause I'm on the spire. I can re-lev or gate out if I need to. So I sit down to mem both spells.

LOADING PLEASE WAIT>>>>>

I wasn't on the spire, but just off of it. Fell to my death in the middle of the group I was meeting. I never thought I would live that one down. Nice cleric rezzed me & they laughed at me for about 3 hours of grouping. ** sigh ** It's hard enough being a halfling druid...............

Ding 49 while killing Giants in EW.

/ooc Woot Ding 49.

Load up that Ice Commet Spell.. Over 1k damage!!

Unfortunately, Wizard has less that 1k hp.

Spot giant, target SELF...

All done in front of a forming raid....

At least I got a quick rez and raid buffed.

* A close second is darn near loosing my lvl 20ish Paladin when I got lost and died in FV. I had just gotten him his uber Ghoulbane!
